Easy to navigate, has the basics, I just wish that...
Easy to navigate, has the basics, I just wish that they had a Starbucks.

Eat before you come here. This is a normal time of day and 20% of the eateries are closed, the places that are open have limited menus, and everything is overpriced. At least the bathroom was fairly clean.
Horrible service and customs has fewer registers open then Walmart.
Good restaurants and services, crowded and dirty bathrooms ...
Incompetence is a very nice word to describe this sh*thole of an airport. On arrival there where around 30 booths for passport control of which 4 where in use so passengers had to stand in line for more then 1,5 h. On departure there where two checkin counters in use for all passengers and at security there was only one checkpoint open for 8 Gates. Arriving 3 hours before departure is just enough to make it to the gate. Have seen better organized airports in Africa. Never again
Not a bad terminal at all. Plenty of places to eat and fairly clean.
Airport 'standard' as far as passenger orientation is concerned (signage, controls, waiting rooms, etc.), but absurd when it comes to duty-free shops: there are 3 tiny ones running after them, and they are extremely expensive !! I had saved a few dollars for some last minute souvenirs ... they stayed in my wallet!
i dont understand all the hate for this place, it is modern, clean, and easy to access. i do agree that there are some bad qualities, but every airport has some.
International flight into Newark. Not a fan of $6 rental for baggage cart. Also be weary of shady yellow cab driver who liked to small talk then charged me $100 up from the $65 originally discussed to get me from the airport to Manhattan claiming toll fees. I typically don t fly into Newark but after talking to other people $50-75 including toll fees should be the rate for future reference and to avoid getting ripped off.
Terminal C is huge and it took almost 2 hours to check in my cat who was traveling with me, get my luggage tagged, take it to the drop-off, stand in the security line and get to the gate. I was frustrated and exhausted by the time I got to the gate. They tell u to arrive 2 hours before ur flight and I can see why. I guess it's to be expected in a place that big. In a smaller airport it literally takes 20 minutes at the most to accomplish the same thing with workers who are a lot friendlier and happy about what they're doing. I just really did not enjoy the process at Newark.
This was my home airport for almost 30 years. Now I'm leaving here to return to my home in Costa Rica
Can someone please turn off the damn air-conditioning! It's 60 degrees outside and 50 degrees inside! This place is like a rotting battleship.
Signs are not helpful. Arrived at terminal C with connection in terminal A. Very few helpful signs to show you where to go. No one offering help. After getting to terminal exit had to back track, found non description sign that just says terminal A and B, only for employee to finally offer some help. You have to take a bus shuttle to terminal A and B. Only to exit to other non helpful employees. Need to take very slow elevator or stairs, to service level. To be let into very buzy terminal with limited food options at crazy prices. If the option to make a connection thought Newark will not take it.
Of the 3 in New York area, this is by far the best to fly from. Overall clean and a decent layout. Lots of shops and dining options and nicely updated to accommodate the demand from technology.
Check in was quick and easy with the self check-in terminals.
Too few toilet facilities though
Every single time I've flown through here it's a nightmare.
Edit: the 4 and 5 star reviews on here are suspicious af. Almost as if the airport paid to have a firm write them reviews to offset the real travelers giving them their deserved 1 star. This is literally probably the worst airport in the US.
They are trying to improve the airport, for now it remains a frustrating experience. Come a bit early as there is a run around for security, and you'll be a long walk away from your gate (which is at times hard to find). There are new food choices, that'll fit any taste. In terminal C they've installed new seating with many power plugs, much appreciated. Terminal C is also stuffed with people, less fun.
Terrible airport! Staff were fine, but noticeably dirty and stained carpets throughout and no one does anything about it (I also saw q tips, candies, etc) on the floor. There were strange porta potties setup as washrooms along one of the long halls. Never seen that before. Terminal A departures area has a few convenience stores and no duty free etc.
Sarah the supervisor of customer service is a blessing, she is an asset where ever she may be. Top notch employee!! From my wife & I with all our hearts thank you Sarah.
It's an airport and it does its job, but staff is generally rude, TSA checks are always slow and crowded, the noise level in the airport is really high as well. I have to go through this airport often and luckily it is always through the international terminal, which is much nicer than the domestic terminal. Nonetheless, it possibly is one of my least favorite airports I have visited and try to avoid it.
Except for the fact that we had to stay at the airport because a lot of flights have been canceled everything was okay. On one day there was a queue at United, that I had to queue 6 hours because of my pointed flight, because of 8 counters 1 or 2 were open. But it may be because it was 5 clock in the morning and the airport at the time actually closes. Otherwise there are tablets, which you can shorten the time on the flight. Security check went fast, staff in general very friendly.
Almost always have a delayed flight. Have been at our bag carousel for over 20 mins and only a dozen or so bags have come out. This place sucks
Easy to get around and easy curbside pick up. Better than LaG.
Great airport I like the set up only thing they have a lot of temp bathrooms
Wide variety in restaurants and shopping the presence is a bit depressing.
My mum had a connecting flight from here. This is from Mumbai India to Toronto Canada with a stopover at Newark USA. She is a person who requires wheelchair assistance and it was communicated twice to the airline (United). The airline also confirmed that she would not need to get down and search for her baggage but the baggage would meet with her at Canada.
When she got down at Newark airport the African Americans who are 95% running the airport were extremely rude and refused wheelchair assistance. Only when my my said she would sit on the floor till a wheelchair was provided did they cursed and glared at her and then provided a wheelchair so late she almost missed her flight, that too with a 3 hour stopover.
Don t believe United Airlines when they tell you the baggage will flow through from their aircraft to Air Canada. There is no such thing. You need to get down at Newark airport, look for your baggage, do immigration and then check-in again and then catch to trains to get to the terminal where Air Canada waits for you.
It is a very horrible airport and people are very very rude there. It s also very unorganized. Avoid at all costs unless you re used to being treated badly. If you re desperate enough to use this airport carry $5 USD for a cart for your luggage and another $10 for the porter if you re older and prefer not to wrestle with the bags.
I travel extensively for work (100+ nights a year). I am in and out of airports like nobody's business. Well, except that it's their business. 2 stars is a bit generous. Typically, while landing in a new airport, the flow is easy enough to where I don't generally even need to look at signs. However, when the flow is bad (such as here) I looked at the signs. Rental cars? Hello, where are you? The signage and flow are so bad that I actually had to search around for someone to ask. On the departing flight, my flight was delayed. Which, from my understanding, is a very common occurrence as well.
Worst airport ever!
You can get there 2 hours before your flight and you'll still reach your gate just in time for boarding due to huge lines and slow processes...just to realize that yes, as always, your flight is delayed. Every time is the same scenario.
After I arrived from Manchester with a disaster there, I thought it was over when I arrive from MAN with United, but in Newark on arrival for my business trip, it only gets worst. On arrival, I see another rude immigration officer with they are trying to secure customers who arriving NYC. Also, this airport is looking worst than Manchester, dirty people, no one to clean the mess, poor people sleeping on the floor and more. Never again will I experience this. Avoid Manchester and Avoid NEWARK AT ALL COST! GO WITH ANOTHER AIRPORT!
Best nyc airport by far, especially with everything United is doing.
Worst employees, no organization whatsoever, confusing lines
Some of the halls are depressing. And it does tend to get overcrowded.
Standard airport. Food options are reasonably priced
First time at this airport it s well an airport nothing special but got thru the delays and got to
my end destination. Didn t have any problems with any of the staff.
Worst airport ever. 2 custom agents for more than 200 people. Took 1.5hr to get my turn at customs. Missed my connection to montreal. United staff was not helpful at all. Security opened my duty free liquor which is ok but didn t have a security tape to reseal it. Took 20mins to a get a tape from different terminal.
Couldn't find any good vegan food options in terminal C
Airport was great, staff very effective and friendly. The train connection to Manhattan is great!
Not sure about other terminals, but terminal A is not a nice place. Icing on the cake is no working soap in multiple men s restrooms.
A good airport! Clear signage and no long waiting times for the security check! The only problem: too crowded at peak times (waiting times at the toilets, queues from the restaurants to the gate areas, etc.)
The airport has been well modernized, but in some areas it is clearly showing its age!
But would flee from there again at any time!
The port authority has taken massive strides to improve this once terrible airport. While there is still much work to do , atleast EWR doesn't compare to the terrible mess that is laguardia. Now that Slot restrictions are gone you can already see many airlines begin to fly here such as Ethiopian, Aer Lingus and China air. A connection on United is now flawless !
Signs are minimal, staff short but United staff tried to help when possible
Worst airport experience I have ever had. We have flown all over the United States and overseas. It's was so disorganized, the pilots were even annoyed and frustrated. We stayed on the tarmac for 3 hours. Our flight was cancelled, we couldn't get couldn't booked on another flight, we couldn't get our bags, we didn't get any hotel or meal vouchers. We had to wait until early evening the next day to leave.
Awesome airport been using since I was a child. Some nice stores to visit yet could use better restaurants that are less expensive. Make sure to eat before you go there. Bag check has been fine for me as well. Check point has gotten very efficient over there years.
Aweful service missed connecting flight do to having to take a bus because it did not go to gate terrible never agin
The Wifi isn't free, and it sucks anyway even if you pay for it (I used iPass to get on). Wouldn't stay connected for more than 10 minutes, and the internet speed was terrible (ping 100ms, <2Mbps down, <1Mbps up).
There is maybe one publicly-accessible power plug *per gate*, which is terrible. Don't expect to charge your devices here.
Staff in the food courts in Terminal C were unhelpful and generally ignored customers.
Definitely would avoid transiting through EWK in the future.
Worst airport I've ever been to. Looking like we're about 3 hours late for nothing at this point.
Some of the worst days in my life have been spent at this airport.
Terminal A is awful. Dated, loud and cramped. Poor food options. I'd recommend eating at another terminal before heading here.
Upgraded facilities are good in Terminal C. Food options are pretty decent.
Hands down the laziest airport I ve ever been to. Everyone operates at a snails pace or slower. I would add at least an hour to your travel day if you have to fly through here
Unorganized. Saw multiple employees sleeping on the job. I would easily pay more to get another flight that never comes close to this airport.
Single line tsa. take 2 steps about every five minutes. can anyone tell if government is shut down or running? frankly there appears to be no difference. #tsa #ewr
Horrible experience and the most awful customer service I have ever had. I was in terminal A, specifically going through immigration back into the U.S. The process requires you to go through a very long (30 min) line to obtain an electronic verification. Then another very long (30 min) line to get through customs. Then another line for security. The signs aren t helpful, but the staff are even worse. No care in the world about helping passengers. One of the ladies in particular (on evening of 5/5, in the section to help passengers know where to go for immigration/customs) literally had an attitude with ME for asking a question. She was rude, dismissive, had a horrible attitude, and seemed absolutely miserable. This experience is even more frustrating after a long flight. The managers here need to do their job and correct this...I ve read too many comments about the poor service. I ll try my best to avoid this airport at all costs.
Good and busy airport but no place to sit inside the airport, hence 4 star but rest all good.
Absolute worst airport experience I ve ever had. No TSA precheck lane. Security took well over 30 minutes. I have traveled the world and back and never had a worse experience.
It s a case of people not knowing what s going on around them. We walked around for an hour getting different responses from people regarding Norwegian Air. Some said it was downstairs, others said the airline left six months ago to JFK. How is it that people working there have no idea what s happening? The customer service guy seemed disinterested in life, let alone two people asking for help to make their flight.
Old, strong but confusing...This airport needs a face lift but over all fine...Terminal C is good but i think they should put the self check-in counters visibly accessible. I think it had a lot of employees just telling people where to go and you have to stand in queue for information...
I can't conceive how anyone could possibly rate this airport well... The entire airport is crappy (including food), but what's really shameful is their security setup (at least in terminal A). Forget that the workers are extremely rude and bark the entire time. What I want to know is WHY would you put the bins for items to be scanned on the other side of the room?? It's chaos. I will avoid this airport at all costs in the future.
I travel through here at least 5 times per year! I love it here. Quick and easy to travel through this place. Great employees. Good food.
this airport is usually way too small in my opinion to be a good and decent airport. but it was the only option closest to NYC, because we didn't have flights to LaGuardia or JFK airport at the time. so we had to go through this airport anyway. the security line was short, and we got through security really quickly, so that was nice. and our Flight back to Dallas Fort Worth was nice, so I am thankful for that too, but at times when I do travel to NYC, I'm going to travel to LaGuardia or JFK airport. also the restrooms were pretty strange to use.
Never had problems with the airport itself. It's always been clean and quick when I've been. Took covid in stride
Inefficient with everything. This is the worst airport. Whatever TSA is being paid, it is too much.
The service is excellent and its infrastructure, very clear door signs entering and leaving this terminal is a guarantee.
Getting in and out is a bit confusing. So are the signs in the airport...
The Airport is beautiful but SIMS ON THE GO ouside TERMINAL B is completely a FRAUD, a FRAUD, a FRAUD. They sell you something that is not real. I took an "unlimited plan" for 192$, to call to my country (Italy) and at the end is not for sure unlimited because after a while I wasn't more able to call because "my country IS NOT included in the unlimited plan, and I have to add more money".
I come back to the airport and another guy of the same company tried another time to sell me something that is not real. They are completely SCAMMERS.
DON'T GO THERE, there are a lot of other places and solution for a sim card, wait and choose another one. THEY ARE CHEATERS.
I remember this place to be so confusing some years ago. But now with the new New Jersey Transit rail stop I found getting there was much easier then driving. Arrival time was is 4 hours earlier then I would have liked but I figured arriving too early was better than arriving with only 1 hour to departure.
I can only assume that it is due to the pandemic that there were virtually a few hundred people am I terminal. It was so comforting moving throughout the airport without a bunch of people in your way. They said to say but the extra measures that they've put in place in my opinion should remain well after the pain demick.
This place has always been near the bottom of the airport list and now has reached it. Disorganized check-in lines, extremely long TSA checkpoints, limited gate seating, horrible outside airport traffic and routing, never-ending flight delays, unprepared gates, maniacal cart drivers, unhelpful employees...yadda yadda. Now they are doing construction, just to make things worse (under the guise of making things better). I gave it one star because the quality of the food, in general, has improved. I'm not a huge fan of the tablet ordering, it works okay, but the food quality has been quite good. What I do not understand is why at an airport of this size, with the enormous volume of human traffic through here on a daily basis, there are hardly any restrooms (and they are undersized and always filthy or not functioning). As an American, I find EWR embarrassing, especially considering how many international travelers come through EWR. It's too bad that my flying options are currently limited to United, and EWR, which both suck and are unfortunately inseparable. Any time you couple the worst US Airline with the worst US Airport, it can't possibly turn out well. In this case, it hasn't.
Luggage arrival took over 1 hour to arrive. .. Many suitcases were damaged beyond repair on SAS #909 ...
bunch of thugs work here, mean and nasty. i will be flying out of JFK from now on. they treated my wife bad.
One of the worst airports I have been to. Always under construction and poorly planned.
Airport not far from the big apple and first alternative to the three in NY. Easily accessible and with various bars and restaurants inside. If you take a taxi, don't forget that you will be asked to pay the tunnel and the highway pass to the other state, about $ 23. If you succeed with uber, the price is already all inclusive.
