I feel really bad that this place is managed so poorly unfortunately! I visited this place today for a pretty bad eye infection I had. I called in the morning and they told me that you can just walk in without any appointment. When I asked "what is the waiting time", they said max 2 hrs. Since I trusted Mount Sinai and was willing to wait to see one of the ophthalmologist there I showed up at 11 AM. I waited for 5 hours and at the end I felt so weak and dizzy that I had to leave because my blood sugar was critically low. I asked the staff and nurses several times that, "could you please at least tell me when will I be seen?" and the answer every single time was "we don't know!" "It might be 30 min or it might be 3 hours". Or in my case never!
Honestly, I don't put the blame on staff and doctors or nurses by any means. I respect the staff and I am sure they are doing their best to accommodate the huge number of patients. However I do put the blame on the management or whoever runs that service. This is a PATIENT's SAFETY issue. Keeping patients in the waiting room for such amount of time has no logic behind it. The patient's flow can be managed much better using variety of methods that are developed by other hospitals. Next to me there was an elderly gentleman who almost passed out and I felt so bad for him because he waited 6 hours to be seen and he also had a pretty bad eye infection and needed to see the doctor the same day.
I do not recommend this place at all to anybody and I will ask my friends and family to avoid it at all costs.
Once you go there and experience it yourself, you will understand what I mean! very sad!
