I received a message on August 3rd that my physician referred me to the cancer center. So I immediately returned the call, then called 3 more times. The next day I called again twice, then finally asked to speak to the scheduling manager and left a message that I had not received a call back to schedule my first appointment at the Cancer Center. Today, A WEEK LATER, the scheduler called me to book my appointment. This shows poor management and lack of compassion. When a person is told they are being referred to a cancer center it is anxiety provoking, but to have to wait a week for a call back is unacceptable!
I will be having my treatments elsewhere.

Rheumatology- Dr. Yaqub

Rheumatology- Dr. Yaqub
I had been treated successfully for many years with a biologic medication, but had to switch as it quit working. I then had an insurance change and had to change Drs. I began seeing Dr. Yaqub at that time and have seen her for a year and a half. During this time my RA has been untreated and has worsened significantly as this Dr. hasn't made much effort to work with the insurance company to get a new med approved. In addition, she has only performed a cursory (at best) examination of my joints, one time. I have found this Dr to be arrogant and uncaring. Also, as phone calls are screened at the Cancer Ctr front desk, it's nearly impossible to speak to someone in the office regarding prior authorization requests or any other issue. Also, the Rheumatology receptionist is rude and doesn't seem too happy with her job. Why have I endured this clinic for this long? Seeking a new Dr. now.

I appreciate the quick response from everyone at NM Cancer Center. I have spoken with everyone involved with my proposed treatment and it seems like everything will run smoother. I realize some of the insurance problems were out of NMCC's control, but they are working with the insurance to get the problems resolved. Thank you to the entire staff for your help resolving this issue so that I can work on just trying to get better.

Wonderful staff, excellent medical care. There promp response to phone calls is beyond anything I experience elsewhere and they actually respond to your concerns. They have been my lifeline for many years.

The oncologist appeared very unsure of himself and mumbled. He didn't seem sure whether I needed a surgeon or a urologist. He wasn't sure if they needed to take half my kidney or all of it. I mentioned previous labs and he had no idea what I was talking about. He came in looking and acting very serious which was alarming, but then he didn't seem to know what to actually say. I spoke with someone in management and she let me know that doc had worked for them a long time. I don't know if something was wrong for the doctor that day, but it made what was already a very difficult journey much harder. I'm giving two stars because they did try to fix it and I don't know what was going on for that doctor that day--everyone can have a bad day or just get really bad news and perhaps be out of sorts a bit. While I do have compassion for that, that doesn't change that my experience with this center was not helpful and emotionally it was harmful.

The director called me back and explained things very well and very confidently. I will, of course, get a second opinion, but it meant a lot to me that this lady cared enough to call me and help me clear up some confusion.

They are a large FULL service cancer center. Their staff from receptionists to physicians are very caring, friendly, and inviting. They showed personal care for each patient and their family. They know this is a very difficult time for them. I had to be there myself in and out for a year. I have other physican's offices attached to the same building.

The service is generally good, and the medical care is excellent. However, the service by the general staff is mediocre to bad. For a week, there have been no booties to wear for my procedure. This is after I even mentioned it and was told it would be fixed. Some staff seem lackadaisical about wearing masks at all times, or wearing them properly.

Most of the doctors there are very good, however I ran into one new doctor that took over my case and without even calling or talking to me, cancelled a treatment that I had been getting for 5 years. That treatment was prescribed by 3 other doctors, including 2 from MD Anderson in Houston, TX. This doctor was new and did not know how to deal with patient histories and delicate decisions yet so beware you have to be your own advocate. Once I complained I got another doctor and got my treatments re-instated.

They did a great job when I was there and I am thankful. But now I see they are getting involved in politics and am not sure I can refer them anymore. If a particular doctor wants to support a political candidate that is fine but when they are dressed and advertising the center I have to disagree.

Follow up to reply since I can t seem to find reply to that option. Since I was a former patient I knew exactly where she worked, I understand she says she is a physician but the uniform she wears represents her place of work, maybe she should have done this in plain clothes or non logo uniform?
