About Nevada disability advocacy
Nevada Disability Advocacy: Empowering Individuals with Disabilities
Nevada Disability Advocacy (NDALC) is a private, statewide non-profit organization that serves as Nevada’s federally-mandated protection and advocacy system for human, legal, and service rights for individuals with disabilities. The organization was established in 1977 to provide legal representation, advocacy services, and education to people with disabilities in Nevada.
NDALC is committed to empowering individuals with disabilities by promoting their independence and ensuring that they have access to the resources they need to live full and meaningful lives. The organization provides a wide range of services designed to meet the unique needs of each individual it serves.
Legal Representation
One of the primary services offered by NDALC is legal representation. The organization has a team of experienced attorneys who are dedicated to protecting the rights of people with disabilities. They provide free legal assistance on issues related to disability discrimination, special education, housing discrimination, employment discrimination, abuse or neglect in institutions or community settings.
Advocacy Services
In addition to legal representation, NDALC also provides advocacy services. This includes helping individuals navigate complex systems such as Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid/Medicare benefits etc., advocating for better policies at local/state/federal levels that impact people with disabilities' lives.
Education & Outreach
NDALC also offers educational programs designed to help individuals understand their rights under federal law such as Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) , Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Fair Housing Act etc., how these laws protect them from discrimination based on disability status; how they can advocate for themselves effectively; what resources are available locally/statewide/nationally etc.
Community Integration & Support
Finally NDALC provides support through community integration programs which include peer support groups where people can connect with others who share similar experiences; independent living skills training which helps individuals learn how to live independently; and employment services which help individuals with disabilities find and maintain meaningful employment.
NDALC is committed to ensuring that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else. The organization works tirelessly to promote inclusion, independence, and equality for all individuals with disabilities in Nevada.
