Really old, mostly empty it seems. It s also a huge base so if you need to go from A B, it s a lot of walking/driving in barren areas of nothingness.

Naval Station Base
Tried to send a phone to my family member through mail during these difficult times. They sent it back to me because they don t do General delivery. Very upset because I capped and they told me that I could. Get your staff together and put everyone on the same page. On top of it all, the lady was very rude to my family member. Tsk tsk
OTR Drivers inspections are on Seabee Rd.. was in line for about 40 min...then you walk next door for gate pass and background check..that took about 30 min...
Like going back in time with all the old structures, love visiting

My granddaughter is with the US Navy s Fleet Bands and she just arrived in Norfolk from Great Lakes. I am so proud for her. The US Navy has just graduated a Clarinetist that will make them proud!!
Looking for apartment for rent. My daughter is in the Navy and will be relocated in VA... Any recommendations??
My husband was stationed here several times in the 00s and 2010 was his final sea duty: onboard the USS MAHAN DDG72. The Navy was good to us, I miss it. He may not, but I do! Born and raised in Hampton Roads, my mom has been employed by the DoN for over 30 years. We love our Navy and all our Sailors!
My grandson is In the Navy Go Navy
Pretty cool seeing are navy in action. Shipyards. Warships.
Pay special attention to where they sit you. They like to lie about where you re being seated. For example, I am 6 7 and they said they gave me an exit row... now my knees are hitting the back seat and my shoulders are crunched. The blonde navy girl was the one who lied to me.
There is no enforcement of laws of the road at the gates. Right turns on red take precedence over people waiting to go straight at green lights. You'll sit at the same light for 3 greens without moving an inch, on a day when only 2 gates are open.
Before 911 you could drive up to the docks which were guarded and fenced. Best view of a aircraft carrier ever. Times change though and hopefully the tour shows the same ships
A long drive, well worth it! Will hope to visit again soon. Love to learn about ships and history of the area as well as go exploring. Various amenities covering many needs. Just need more time in area but overall great experience.
Norfolk is a pit, absolutely nothing to do if you are a fresh seaman on base. The base needs more growth and recreation opportunities for junior sailors. I've been here 3 years, picked up rank and I still think it's a pit.
AMAZING SITES! LOVED ALL THE BRIDGE VIEWS AND WATER VIEWS! WOULD LOVE TO GO BACK SOMETIME!
No public access or tours here. Search for Naval Station Norfolk Tour & Information Center, 9079 Hampton Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23505. These 45 minute bus tours are great. You get a close-up drive-by view of all the ships at dock.
Been in line for truck inspection for over 2 hours . If I'm delivering products from another base then my record should be clear enough to deliver on your base ! This is a joke at efficiency get more people out here to do the job or find a new system. I will never deliver here again I hope other trucks feel same and wont waist their time. 2 hours and counting still not checked just to drive ten feet onto base and drop one pallet. My tax money for this no thankyou!
I am so grateful for the USA navy training in VA. Beach for our military men and women to an ongoing broad spectrum, and the USA NAVY SEAL teams, that are unending for American citizens. Their devotion is immense.
Stationed here for 3 years active duty on the USS Kidd DDG993 in my home state.
i called 3 times , the same person KEPT picking up having side bar conversations & ignoring me. Multiple times I ve been late to work , & I called about an HOUR ago , still no taxi. Maybe y all should get more drivers in the mornings?
Due to climate change, the US Naval base in Norfolk may be flooded in the future. The National Interest magazine cited a list of military bases most at risk from climate change by research firm American Security Project showing that the Atlantic Fleet's primary naval base The US Navy in Norfolk, Virginia could be submerged underwater. Since 2000, there have been more floods in Norfolk than before. Most climate change assessments show that there will be even more flooding in the future - it is predicted that by 2100, flood water levels will increase by 1.5 meters. In addition, as the climate changes more, stronger storms will begin to appear in the area. The US Mechanical Corps believes that such a hurricane alone would have destroyed the Norfolk base and related infrastructure. US Naval Base in Norfolk. The National Interest magazine noted that the Navy may refuse to build in the most vulnerable areas to address the problem, but it will not be easy to protect the infrastructure when faced with confiscated conditions. budget narrow. The port services are responsible for controlling more than 3,100 incoming and outgoing vessels each year. In terms of air operations, more than 100,000 flights a year start here, meaning an average of 255 flights a day - or every 6 minutes. More than 150,000 passengers and 264,000 tons of mail and cargo depart each year on Mobile Air Command flights or on charter flights from Norfolk Naval Base airports. It is also the logistics hub of the US Navy serving the battlefield operations of Central Command and Europe, and also to the Caribbean. Phuong Dung
I'm keeping this rate of 1 star untill this gets corrected. Are you familiar with the Cuba's situation? You know, the communist/dictatorial island that actually had nuclear missiles pointing at the US in the 60s, the same regime that had killed millions including members of my family.... And it does that, in part, WITH YOUR MONEY... the one out of the profits of SELLING CUBAN CIGARS at a Navy NEX.... Yes... Despite Congress imposing a series of laws part of the embargo to a nation that supports terror and kills its own people. I will love to hear how in HELL... This is possible!?
