NPA mobilized its members through grassroots campaigns urging Congress not to pass this legislation. Thanks in part to these efforts by NPA members across the country; Congress ultimately decided not to include these provisions in final legislation passed into law.
Another important issue that NPA has been working on recently is pre-market approval requirements for new dietary ingredients (NDIs). Under current law; companies must submit safety data before introducing an ingredient into commerce if it meets certain criteria such as being chemically altered or used at higher levels than previously used forms.
NPA believes that these requirements are overly burdensome for small businesses trying to bring innovative new products onto market while still ensuring safety standards are met; so they are advocating for changes that will make it easier for companies developing NDIs without compromising safety standards or consumer protection measures already established by FDA regulations
