My parents come Canberra from Perth in part to enjoy the NGA. A beautiful building with a strong permanent collection and regular turnover of world class travelling exhibitions.

Didn't have a lot of time to spend here so only saw International Collection. One of the smaller galleries I've been to however did not disappoint.
A great gallery. Well worth the trip if you're from out of town. Although the latest exhibition wasn't great, their stock of standard works including Blue Poles by Jackson Pollock is well worth a look.
So much to see. Take a full day to really appreciate everything.
The current exhibitions are worth your time, effort and money
NGA is a very nice place to visit. It is free first, except for some special exhibition. It has a lot of Aboriginal art, contemporary Australia art, which makes it a nice place to spend a few relaxing hours in the middle of art pieces. After all this art-walking, you then can spend time resting at the cafe inside or even outside, or choose to walk and to visit one of the other nice museum in this area!
The Hyper Real Exhibition was amazing - the detail was incredible. I had to look twice to differentiate between the art and the observers.
Frequently changing displays and themes, so there s always something new to new!
Very cool, a lot of different art directions and funny installations
Some very impressive exhibits and artwork. Easy access and free entry :)
World class content in a contemporary building set in interesting lakeside gardens.
Wonderful place to visit especially when they have visiting exhibitions
Love the art, love the building, Iove the gardens, love the Cafe!
Versailles: Treasures from the Palace. - National Gallery of Australia
Love and Desire was stunning ... and Blue Poles is always worth the visit.
This is a very good museum with a splendid collection of aboriginal arts. There is also a good selection of international artists such as Jackson Pollock, Bridget Riley (three pictures) , Andy Warhol, Roy Liechtenstein and Gorges Seurat amongst others. One of the two Pollocks is reputed to his masterpiece. However, the museum suffers from not having at least some pictures by great modern artists such as Francis Bacon, and Pablo Picasso Nonetheless, it doe have a great collection of ceramics.as well as Aboriginal pictures. There is a cafeteria and a shop.
This is a great place to visit if you can spend 2 or more days for Canberra. Well-organized exhibition with some very famous paintings. There is also aboriginal artwork which is interesting.
The gallery is nice and you can find also some artworks of famous artists. I was told that it was nice but I didn't know what to expect. I have to say it actually was.
First time to this gallery and was very excited you see so many well known works and artists. Could not spend the time required to do justice to a proper viewing.
Hyper realism freaked me out more than most exhibitions I've seen. Some really disturbing and challenging pieces
Good show (Cartier) but would have thought that letting people through the exhibition the way they did could have been a lot better
Lovely grand building, fantastic museum shop, good ties.
Interesting range of art. As always, some that I liked a lot and some that I did not have to think about for long.
A bit of a rabbit warren but beautifully presented art and great restaurant.
We visited the NGA Canberra which was fantastic, on the way out we stopped by at the 'pumpkin' infinity room. Talk about a visual sensory attack, very interesting but after 5 minutes I was glad to leave. Very clever exhibition
I liked the exhibitions there but parts of it were under construction or closed because of covid which prevented me from exploring the full museam but all in all very entertaining.
Visited for the Monet opening night. Champagne and nibbles before, beautiful art after. I've visited a number of exhibitions here and they are always tastefully laid out, well presented and easy to access. Add in well-written intros and individual painting signs and it makes for an almost seamless and invisible facility for the art (which is the idea).
The NGA houses Canberra's most important collection of national and international art, and some of Australia's finest pieces, including paintings by Australia's Nationalist Movement (Streeton, McCubbin et al.), Jackson Pollock's controversial "Blue Poles", and Brancusi's soaring and monumental "Birds in Space". There is a wonderful outdoor sculpture garden, including extraordinarily expressive works by Rodin, and a very good restaurant on-site.
Australia's Premiere Art Gallery. Well worth a visit.
Wonderful exhibition space and tours were very informative.
Had a great time at the hyper real exhibition
Staff are good and the shop has a terrific range.
Why do you use Ticketech? I have been trying for an hour to buy tickets to the Cartier Exhibition. I have used them before but this time they would not accept my email address. I tried to resign but by the time I completed their long questionnaire (what has my birthdate got to do with buying tickets?) the time for the site had expired. I tried four times but the time beat me. A hell of a site. They are more interested in obtaining personal information than selling your tickets.

This review is about how the gallery displays rather than any particular exhibit. ANG use light sound & information boards to give a well rounded experience in very pleasant easy to get around environment. If in Canberra consider stringing a visit.
The indigenous wing and sculpture garden are world class. Wonderful place.
Beautiful way to spend an afternoon, with free entry general galleries.
Definitely a stand out among Canberra's many tourist attractions. Living in Canberra, this is one of the few I return to regularly and enjoy every time. It houses many exhibits at once, rotating frequently, so you'll probably find something for everyone. Certainly, it is not just paintings or for art buffs. It contains famous works by many famous artists (e.g. Pollock, Picasso, Monet). It has Australian art and Aboriginal art. It usually has a selection of Pacific Islander art and artifacts and frequent cultural exhibits from around the world and throughout time. Objects from art deco and modern art installations are also commonly on display. There is a sculpture garden outside beside the lake. Entry to everything is free except for one major exhibit, typically containing themed items on loan with a guided tour and audio tour. There is a kids play area with creative activities. It accommodates for mobility impaired people. There is a choice of cafes. Paid underground parking and other parking available in the district. Nice toilets and parents room. Lovely staff and enthusiastic volunteers. Gee, even the gift shop is a step above the rest.
Great displays for anyone interested in the history of democracy in Australia
One of the best collections of art I have seen in Australia. The outdoor part especially. Special note the outdoor mist turns on at 12:30 by the little lake around the side of the NGA.
I went to the gallery to see the Hyper Real exibit. The gallery and exibit were enjoyable.
Nice collection. Great building. The Cartier exhibition is very large and I thought it was worth the fee
Collection, parts distribution, wide environments, professional service. Accessibility.
Good place with some good works but I m not an expert to talk about.
Highly recommend a visit to the National!Gallery. The amazing aboriginal art is incredible and certainly is something that should be checked out. Parking is $3 per hour which seems unusual considering it s free entry to the gallery, and it s a tax payers paid facility.... regardless it s worth a visit !!
Large areas of free access. Well worth the visit time and time again.
The gallery is well designed, and do have a log of collection, especially for Australian s own aboriginal art.
Great exhibitions.
Excellent staff.
Fairly difficult to navigate. Lots of up and down.
Not a lot of parking.
Loved the gallery will most definitely return on next Canberra trip
*if you are interested in a major exhibition don't wait till last minute to attend or you will find it crowded, particularly during the weekend. But on the bright side at least with the Monet exhibition after 1pm was less crowded.
Monet Impressions exhibition is well worth a visit The story of artists who mentored or impressed Monet was interesting His children were also artists
Wonderful exhibitions, a beautiful place to spend time
A national treasure. Brilliant place to visit, even if you're a local/have seen it before. Recently went to go to the 'Hyperreal' exhibition, which was incredible.
It's free to visit most of the galleries - need to buy tickets to come along to the traveling exhibitions, though I've always found them very worthwhile.
A little disappointed as many parts of the gallery were closed for renovations
Visited Cartier collection...ear phones not working properly...went back to starting point...they were reset...then went flat..mentoined this to staff at the desk...was not offered a refund or an apology
good building. excellent exhibitions. helpful staff. and, to top it off, lots of information regarding the skywhale.
Wonderful exhibition but overhead 2,of the guides passing on some dodgy' information about Aboriginal people to school kids
