Nahse Chicago/Midwest Chapter: Empowering Healthcare Leaders and the Next Generation of African-American and Minority Leaders in the Healthcare Field
The National Association of Healthcare Services Executives, Chicago Midwest Chapter, or NAHSE for short, is a non-profit organization based in Chicago, IL that aims to empower healthcare leaders and the next generation of African-American and minority leaders in the healthcare field. With a mission to promote diversity and inclusion in healthcare leadership, NAHSE provides its members with opportunities for professional development, networking, mentorship, and community service.
NAHSE was founded in 1968 by a group of African-American hospital administrators who recognized the need for greater representation of minorities in healthcare leadership positions. Today, NAHSE has grown into a national organization with over 2,000 members across 32 chapters throughout the United States.
The Chicago Midwest Chapter is one of NAHSE's most active chapters. Its members include executives from hospitals and health systems as well as professionals from various sectors within healthcare such as finance, consulting, technology, and more. The chapter hosts regular events throughout the year including educational seminars on topics such as healthcare policy reform or emerging trends in digital health; networking events where members can connect with other professionals; community service projects that give back to underserved communities; and an annual gala that celebrates achievements within the industry.
One unique aspect of NAHSE is its commitment to developing future leaders through its mentorship program. The program pairs experienced executives with up-and-coming professionals who are interested in pursuing careers in healthcare leadership. Mentors provide guidance on career development strategies such as resume building or interview skills while also sharing their own experiences navigating challenges within their respective fields.
Another key initiative for NAHSE is promoting diversity at all levels within healthcare organizations. This includes advocating for policies that support equal access to care regardless of race or ethnicity; encouraging recruitment efforts that target underrepresented groups; and providing resources for healthcare organizations to develop and implement diversity and inclusion strategies.
In addition to its local chapter activities, NAHSE also hosts an annual national conference that brings together healthcare leaders from across the country. The conference features keynote speakers, educational sessions, networking opportunities, and a career fair for job seekers.
Overall, NAHSE Chicago Midwest Chapter is a valuable resource for healthcare professionals who are committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in leadership positions within the industry. Its members benefit from access to professional development opportunities, mentorship programs, community service projects, and networking events that help them build relationships with other like-minded professionals. By promoting diversity at all levels within healthcare organizations, NAHSE is helping to create a more equitable and inclusive healthcare system for all.
