Mt.Pleasant does al it can to protect their animals from possible problem people. There is no worse nightmare and heart break than a dog that is adopted and than beaten to death by the adopter, this has happened and I am so grateful that Mt. Pleasant takes every precaution to prevent this from happening. I would be very concerned with any one that complained about this wonderful safe taking. There animals are wonderfully cared for. I will definitely be adopting from them. Thank you Mt.Pleasant and all yor wonderful staff for caring so much for your animals.

I would like to share my experience with this aweful establishment. I came in looking to save the life of one of their beautiful dogs. After looking around, I began asking questions to one of their managers, Mark. Mark was apparently too busy to accommodate any of my questions and became extremely unprofessional. Needless to say, Mark essentially forced me out the door with his unwillingness to help and servers lack of professionalism. I would highly suggest not wasting your time and going to a shelter that cares about their animals.

I must say this is one of the cleanest shelters I have been to! The staff is super friendly and very helpful. They were more then happy to answer any and all of my questions. They also know their animals very well and matched me up with the perfect dog! I would reccomemed this shelter to any of all of my family and friends. Steve is the best!

Don't waste your time here unless you make adopting a dog a full time job. We attempted to adopt twice over a four day period. My husband went to see a puppy on Friday, filled out an application, and was told he needed to bring rest of household and any pets back with him - this is understandable. Since they were closing at the time we went back when they opened at noon on Saturday with our other dog. Another family got there first and adopted that puppy. While we were there we found another dog in the shelter we fell in love with. We went back on Sunday to see the other dog and were told he would not be ready for adoption until cleared by the Vet on Tuesday. We were told we did not need to fill out another application as they kept ours on file. We got conflicting answers when we asked about this dog on Sunday. First he was not in his cage. When we asked where he was one of the staff told us he was not cleared yet for adoption but didn't say where he was. Another staff told us he was over at the Petsmart with volunteers. We went over to the pet store and visited with the dog. The volunteers told us to go back to the desk at the shelter and put our name in to adopt him. We went back to the shelter and were told he would be ready on Tuesday at 1pm. on a first come first serve basis, that we had already put in an application and they did not take a waiting list. They said we could call on Tuesday to see if he was cleared. On Tuesday I called at 10:30 and they told me he was not cleared yet and to call back. I called at 11:39 and was told he would be cleared for adoption at 1 pm and they opened at 12. After our experience on Saturday I left and drove to the shelter and got there 2 minutes after opening. There was another couple already there with their adoption folder in hand. How did they mange to have this completed already???
Mt. Pleasant animal shelter needs to make sure all employees and volunteers are on the same page and that each potential adopter is given the same information. If you have time to waste, and room in your life for disappointment, then this is the place for you - otherwise seek out another shelter - there are so many homeless pets waiting for you.
P.S. To leave a review I had to click on one star - it did not give the option of leaving a no star review.

This is a terrible shelter that is not kept clean ad the animals are living in squalor, usually with a puddle of urine next to them. The smell is a strong smell of number 2 that permeates the place and is much worse than other shelters. The dogs frequently have mites and worms that they spread to each other. The very worst part of the experience are the workers there. A nasty fat lady with tattoos that clearly is unable to make good decisions for herself is the one who determines who gets a dog and who doesnt. They made me come there multiple times, were always nasty to me, and when I finally decided to take a dog home they sprung new requirements on me to make sure I wasnt able to take it. Perhaps they had the dog in mind for themselves or one of their friends. Overall, i would not suggest this shelter to my worst enemy, they are greedy and not doing this for the love of animals. In addition, they have the worst policies out of any shelter in NJ.

Based on my experience of trying to adopt a dog from this shelter I would not give it a favorable review. I had come to see a particular dog and knew that there was considerable interest in him from others as well. Told it would be a first come first serve basis but when we got there extra early we saw a "Sign up Sheet" posted on the door well before the shelter opened. Never once was there any mention of this on the phone when we called to inquire about the policy. There were quite a number of people also waiting and none of them knew of this policy either until they got there. It appears that the dog was already promised to someone and there were told about the sign up sheet, since apparently the sheet was posted in the early morning hours and the first sign up was 6:00 a.m. Not quite sure how they would know that six (6) hours before they shelter even opened. The staff also told me that dog was very popular and did not even get posted on the website which was totally not true, since not only was the dog on their website but petfinder as well. Many people left disappointed which could have been totally avoided since the dog was already slated for a particular family.

I d give 0 starts if i could. We are looking to adopt a dog and find a dog we like at MPAS. We call and set up an appointment to meet with him in a week, we re told to call closer to the date we meet him to make sure he s still available. Ok. So we call, and we re told hes still there available. The day comes, I leave work early, we bring our current dog to come meet this dog. We get there, go inside, and are told he was just adopted by someone. The person at the desk had not the slightest clue about this. The person at the desk is who adopters SPEAK TO THAT IS THE FIRST AND ONLY CHANEL OF COMMUNICATION. This person was clueless to what was happening with the animals in the shelter. The person in the back clued her in that the dog we had an appointment to see today was already adopted. They tried to make it our fault, and say that we didn t give them a contact number to let us know we didn t need to come today to see him... I had called this morning 10 minutes prior to arriving when we left the house and got no answer. Amazing service. Great way to treat people looking to give good homes to your dogs.
