I enjoyed the visit to this gallery tremendously. One will need a few hours to really see the permanent exposition. I have little knowledge of the Russian masters but it was a real opener for me. I can recommend it to everyone, renting the audio is advisable.

Ok, so the collections here are of 20th century Russian art. This means that if you like Kandinsky, Chagall, and Malevich you will find their works within the context of their contemporaries. This collection is great from visitors from abroad, who like this time period in art history, as you will not find such a diverse selection of 20th century Russian Art elsewhere.
A great place for a visit with family. The collection there not only includes modern works but also some older ones from the Soviet era, which are the most interesting imho
Currently almost all pearls of Soviet Realist Art are unavailable closed for restoration works. Nauseating modern art has to be walked by with half-closed eyes. Better call and ask what's on at the moment
Vereshchagin exhibition is superb. Modern art Halls are almost empty: it's unclear why to waste your time on the trash that critics' Mafia colluded to declare a masterpiece
This gallery displays only 20th century art, and forward. Thanks to the very large building it's located in, the exposition is spaced out very well. Light is thought out as well, as there's no glare no matter at which angle you're viewing (unlike the Pushkin and original Tretyakovka museums). Towards the end there are several halls with what looks like 'conceptual art' that you might want to skip, but that's no hassle.
Awesome place for modern art! Malevitch, Popova, Kandinsky, and many others... a great permanent exposition and very interesting occasional ones. Definitely a place to visit !
One of the best museums of Moscow, Russia. Do not miss the chance to visit it. There is an amazing unique exposition of paintings by Ilya E. Repin, great artist. Museum's experts did a great job of guiding visitors through Repin's life and talent by following his artworks arranged chronologically. It's worse 10 stars!
Really liked the abstract expressionism department including the work of Vassily Kandinsky! The building is architecturally not the nicest and the lighting a bit too dark, but it's the content that counts.
An absolutely outstanding collection of 20th century Russian art. The Chagall room alone is worth the entrance fee, but there is also a superb section of Constructivism.
I expose in the cloud. On the 6th digital continent, the Intergalactic Internet Boole.
- My audience? - The whole world, see galaxies! Art is what remains of us! Wood, steel, stone, paper and paint for paint oxidize, erode and become dust again ...
Digital art will remain until the end of time, without any museum here or there, paying where it is not. There is no conservation work or complex structure to maintain ...
Known or unknown, we express our Love, our visions, our emotions and our deep philosophical or philosophical inspiration.
A diamond can be rough or cut, small or huge, but it remains a diamond. For artists, it s the same, so get started!
Very interesting and original exhibition. In a big communist building it is very worthy to take a look at the most known paintings of the contemporary art in Russia. The temporal exhibition, is easy to access and the guides are available in every language.
I didn't go inside the gallery but from what I saw its a beautiful place and from what I heard it's one of the biggest and most popular gallery in Moscow.
Specifically, I was in the Tretyakov Gallery at the "Plastic-Fantastic" exhibition. The exhibition was very informative and even gave some kind of motivation to separate waste. The exhibition featured many types of plastic processing, from chairs and tables to clothing. I advise you to look!
We were pleasantly surprised to learn of the many outstanding Russian artists of the 20 century! There are many different styles, so it can fit the taste of many. Kirzhov gallery is definitely a highlight Some huge works worth taking the time to sit and enjoy. The audio guide was sure good to give you an idea of the main artist. After browsing the gallery for 2 hours we had a coffee and a stroll on the beautiful Gorky park on a beautiful summer day.
A must visit!! The tickets for adults are for 500 rubbles. This museum has a huge variety of paintings by russian artists from all eras. Time spent there would be around 3 hours
A total disappointment, at least at the moment. Many of the halls are closed but they only tell you that halls 1-15 are not open, you only find out after buying a ticket that these rooms house the most interesting and important artworks of the early soviet period, including Malevich, Tatlin, Popova, Goncharova, Chagall, Rodchenko, Exter, and Kandinsky. None of these are on display but they don t bother telling you that. Instead all you get is a bunch of soviet socialist realism and some very bizarre low standard 80s and 90s and contemporary work, some of which I would actually describe as atrocious (e. g. the one where some artist put 4 canvases with a gap in between but all slightly rotated with a black square painted across the canvases in each of the corners and he actually dared to call it Black Square can you believe it..). I came to the new Tretyakov in hopes of finding the most amazing 20th c Russian art collection of all time given the significance and location of the gallery and left hugely disappointed with a bunch of mediocre work most of which is actually horrid to look at. But hopefully once those mysteriously numbered halls are actually open it should be a fantastic exhibit, just felt very disappointed that no one told us about what exactly isn t on show and also the cashier lady (as many people in Russia) were extremely rude to us... plus just to point out, they give a student discount but only if you re a student in Russia. And just the last thing that was hugely disappointing about the exhibition was that they don t bother putting a single room description in English, and perhaps it also shows bad curation, but the rooms/halls were not curated in any recognisable order. Therefore it would have been helpful to put some text in each room not just in Russian, which is something given the prestige and international acclaim of the gallery I find ignorant and very unwelcoming. I m giving two stars only because the actual building is pretty cool, a humongous tasteful modernist block from the 80s.
A great place to experience modern Russian and Soviet art. The gallery is well designed and maintained. Placement of the Black Square is a bit awkward, while the layout of the halls is well thought through. The building itself is a great piece of Soviet Brutalist architecture. A must visit for anyone interested in modern art.
Let me start by saying the modern art in this museum is singularly terrible. But once you get past that - there is so much incredible Soviet art. I would come to back to Moscow again just to see it. Some of the pieces are truly incredible. They have such power. Must visit.
The New Tretyakov Gallery is a convenient platform for various exhibitions, with a fairly large area. It so happened historically that mainly exhibitions of modern, abstract and pop art are held here, which completely suits me as a lover of these genres. So maybe you should look at the schedule of this gallery, maybe that will interest you. And I am attaching a photo from the exhibition of Andy Warhol's works.
