One of the few museums in NYC that you can drink and enjoy phenomenal dj sets all at the same time!!!!
Former school with high ceilings and period details. Interesting contemporary displays and installations. Boiler room is a liece of art
I love coming here when they have the summer music events on the weekends!
Art is often even more weird than the MoMA in Manhattan
it is a good option now that the other moma is closed, good attention and expo
Great hidden gem in Long Island City! Glad MoMA PS1 exits. Definitely worth the visit
I saw all the art
How dank was all of the art
It was not an art
Really a gem. An enormous multistory Victorian public school building (1902) abandoned for decades and then restored minimally by artists to house contemporary works. The building itself is worth the trip. And the art even more so.
very special museum and most of the time offers a good selection of emerging artists. You should check carefully before you go what's on b/c once in a while most of the space is actually in installation. especially be ware of content unappropriated for children which could be the case in a few of the exhibitions
Unmissable museum of modern art with icons of this period
A good selection of art book fares and exhibits throughout the year. Convenient to subway stops, but the nonstop construction surrounding the area minimizes options for visiting at a cafe or restaurant after the museum.
More of a concert venue than a museum, the art is pretty mediocre.
Great location, the building itself is worth the visit, after that just depends on who's work they are showing.
This year installation 'lumen' is amazing. Try the negroni from M Wells cocktails! Perfect for a hot summer afternoon party.
My Experience in MoMA PS1 was the prospect of it like Museum l love to go anytime I will come back next month and l do like go. Any of these pictures l love it.
Stupid and poorly organized. Annoying vibe. Credit Card - wristband pairing stations were placed at a logically cretinous position at a high traffic area (people entering and leaving, with you blocking the way in order to pair your wristband with your CC). Why?
Vibe - paradise for instagran cloutchasers
Security - annoying and overstaffed. You cant stand ANYWHERE for more than 2 seconds without being told where to move or where to go.
Go to a club if you want to dance. This isnt a dayger venue. They have the capacity but for some reason not the ability to run a fun, smooth party venue. Plenty of room for improvement in terms of workflow and operations (reflected in survey).
I feel lucky to have this in my home area. Amazing art installations that changes every month or two. Really really good place for art explorer.
I have no artistic atmosphere or beauty. I didn't expect to have a lot of fun here. Although the guide may not be completely understandable, I can also grasp the eight points with what I see and get a lot of gains.
If you have time to come to New York, push it!
Personally, moma ps1 is better than the moma in Manhattan
Museum of modern art located in the center of the city of New York, with easy access from any subway station where you are, his works are an example of the new artistic perception that the human being has adopted with the passing of the years. It has a souvenir shop and the value of each ticket ranges between 10-15 dollars for adults and 5 dollars for children and students
Thia latest exhibit focuses on art from our incarcerated brothers and sisters. Please, if you reside within the 5 boroughs, it us a must you check out this exhibit.
It's art with less of the stiffness! (Disclosure: I had a piece there)
I was watching an exhibition about the Gulf War.
Looking at the body of a war victim who exploded like an animal body
I thought a lot.
The Warm-Up party is the only reason it gets a three... the exhibits have always been underwhelming.
This place is less about the art and more about the scene.
Needs more-- maybe went during a time of changing exhibits, but there were only 3 to 4 sets of 6-10 items. Felt sort of gypped. Free for NYC residents, though, so only lost out on paying for visiting in-laws. Most likely would not return or recommend. Best part was the great smells coming from the M Wells dinette!
I went to one of their Warm Up events which take place every Saturday during the summer. It was immensely fun! The music was great, the drinks were good (especially the cocktails in the dinette - I would recommend them over the college style wine and beer in the courtyard). It was also cool to wander the museum as part of the party atmosphere. I was probably a little older than the average attendees age, but it didn t matter. Highly recommend giving it a try, it s certainly a different way to enjoy a museum.
This museum is a good addition to MoMa despite not being as great as MoMa it s still a nice place to acknowledge some of the art and film collectives gathered within the museums space
Fun spot for concerts. Can get crowded very quickly though.
Come here. Even if you're not a fan of "modern art," I'm sure you'll find something to love! It's also pretty fun to explore the space as it's an old elementary school..
Amazing museum made out of an old public school. So cool. Fantastic contemporary art. Parking is awful; take the train.
Ps1 is a great place to see adventurous contemporary art. Its courtyards are a great place to hang out on a warm day.
If you like out of the mainstream art go to MoMA PS1. Have an open mind as to what art is.
Former school with high ceilings and period details. Interesting contemporary displays and installations. Boiler room is a liece of art
If you like contemporary experiential art, it is an interesting place to visit.
Very very nice, the flooring there just gives you a picture of how students used to walk down the hallways.
MoMA PS1 always has great exhibitions, in my opinion much better than MoMA.
Ancient school building with labyrinth of rooms, large and small, that serve as galleries. Cafe is far and away the most welcoming space. The exhibition is what makes or breaks your take away on PS 1. Current Leckey show is impossible to find interesting even intellectually. May future shows overcome the decrepit building
I bartending at their Night at the Museum Springtoberfest event. It was really fun and the food vendors had some delicious options. Didn't get a chance to see all the exhibits they had open that night but the patrons seemed to be enjoying it.
MoMA can be WEIRD. But always spurs conversation and creative thinking.
This museum has exhibitions that rotate every few months. If you want to visit ORDER A TICKET ONLINE IN ADVANCE (even if you are a member) and wear a mask. There's limited capacity for every exhibition room and 6ft social distancing is in effect everywhere in the museum. The only exhibition on display (as of 4/7/21) is Niki de Saint Phalle: Structures of Life which will be here til September.
The pictures displayed are my most favorite art pieces from the most recently closed exhibition called, Marking Time: Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration. Most, if not all exhibitions here are extremely insightful and give insightful commentary on current events or the lives of current artists, including up and coming artists.
In addition to the art, there's a restaurant brought to you by Mina Stone called Mina's that brings small cafe items along with authentic Greek cuisine. It is open Friday-Sunday during museum hours and there is only outdoor seating in the courtyard currently. The museum is open Thursday-Monday, from 12pm-6pm, except for Saturdays, when it closes at 8pm.
If you have a ticket for the MoMA main building, you can enter for free within a certain period of time.
Unfortunately, I went there when the exhibition was replaced, but I was able to participate in the tour inside the museum. You can also see James Turrell's work, and you can relax by watching the changing sky from the ceiling.
This place/venue is super cool, BUT sound system super disappointing! No excuses! Sorry do something asap!
Unfortunately, the museum was closed when we arrived. They were preparing the next exhibition.
But the MoMA organized guided tour around the building to discover all the piece of art on the wall (painted by various artists when the primary school became an extension of the well known museum MoMA).
If you have a Moma ticket, you can bring it within 14 days and enter for free if you visit here :) Backpacks are not allowed.
Visited in November of 2017 ... Magnificent experience!
Was so much fun. There was every kind of music so be prepared to now like every genre that is being played.
it's a interesting place because you can see the old of the place and how they give it this new use... it's amazing. They hace a cool bookstore too.
Always inspiring Art! Particularly liked Maureen Gallace exibition and A BIT OF MATTER providing insight into the PS1 archives.
Helped with setup of an installation in the courtyard.
Great museum, so happy that the James Turrell piece is open again!
Hype location for warmup. I recommend for a summer hangout.
The space created by using old school as it is is wonderful.
It is quieter than Manhattan Moama and it is good to appreciate the work.
Museum of Contemporary Art If you have a ticket, it is free within 14 days.
Closed, but still offers the visit of the renovation for the SAME PRICE. What the heck ?
Some cool exhibits here. An old school that they've converted into a museum. Some of the exhibits are a little too modern for my taste, but if you're into that, this is a great place to visit. The admission is donation based, so not a wallet breaker. You should go when it's a little warmer because they do have an outdoor area where there are exhibits. There's also a nice cafe for food.
I can't say I'm one that appreciates Art; however, I did appreciate the environment and the ability to learn about what others do appreciate. It was a bit difficult to understand what made some thing truly art, but people seemed to really get into it.
Usually amazing and home to a lot of great NYC memories. PS1 forever!
It was a nice experience, usually not that into modern Art, but this was really nice.
Clear. Well presented, small exhibitions by various contemporary artists. Entrance is where you don't expect it ...
To some degree, PS1 is better than MoMA. It gives me a spoon of modern art, then leave me a whole mountain to dig.
Spending time in the James turrell room was a dream come true. Spiritual and healing at the same time.
Really love this place. They have super fun late-night museum events and summer concerts, with cool concept exhibits and cocktails. General admission is free for all NYC residents! My only concern is how it s interacting with the locals of Long Island City. Not sure about any community outreach/engagement initiatives they might have, but I fear they re working to gentrify the neighborhood and making it inaccessible to people who have lived there long before it started to seem like a trendy part of town.
Awesome venue for alternative music and generally cool spot for some daytime weekend fun. Drinks are new York reasonably priced and was cool that you're able to tour around the museum while bands are playing outside
My 7 year old and I have a strong passion for art. We were extremely excited to visit this museum due to the fact that I visited MoMA PS1 when I was around his age. As we went to pay the entrance fee I was informed NY residents received a discount- awesome!
Prior to visiting the museum, I talked to my child about acceptable behavior; speaking in a low tone, cannot get too close to the art, and could not put his hands on anything as well. Understood.
We began walking around, enjoying what we were seeing, and then we entered a specific room with art more appealing to him.
My son came "too close" to one of the exhibits and we were rudely warned about keeping our distance. Understood. We moved on to another piece and the same gentleman once again approached my child, at an uncomfortable distance, and told him that he needed to keep his distance.
As a mother of a well behaved child, I became frustrated. We moved out of the room and moved on to the next. My friend whom was accompanying us whispered in my ear that we were being followed, and that was enough for me to leave.
I'm extremely disappointed in the way the staff handled the situation ultimately discouraging my son from wanting to visit museums in the future. It is safe to say this museum is not kid friendly and we will not be returning.
Trendy and fancy place but lines are extremely long everywhere (restrooms, bars, even for loading your wristband with money).
Unfortunately I'm not coming back again
Beautiful art, wonderfully accommodating event space
