About Mobility open blockchain initiative (mobi)
Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative (MOBI) is a non-profit organization that aims to create standards and build the Web3 digital infrastructure for connected vehicles and IoT commerce. The organization was founded in 2018 by leading automakers, technology companies, and blockchain startups with the goal of accelerating the adoption of blockchain technology in the mobility industry.
The members of MOBI include some of the biggest names in the automotive industry such as BMW, Ford, General Motors, Renault, and Honda. Other members include tech giants like IBM and Bosch as well as blockchain startups like ConsenSys and Hyperledger.
The main objective of MOBI is to develop a decentralized platform that will enable secure communication between vehicles, infrastructure providers, service providers, and customers. This platform will be built on top of blockchain technology which provides a secure and transparent way to store data.
One of the key benefits of using blockchain technology in mobility is that it can help reduce fraud by providing an immutable record of all transactions. This means that it will be much harder for criminals to tamper with vehicle records or steal cars.
Another benefit is that it can help improve safety by enabling real-time communication between vehicles on the road. For example, if one car detects an obstacle on the road ahead it can immediately alert other nearby cars so they can take evasive action.
MOBI's work also extends beyond just connected vehicles. The organization is also exploring how blockchain technology can be used to improve supply chain management for automotive parts as well as how it can be used to enable new business models such as peer-to-peer car sharing.
In addition to developing standards for connected vehicles and IoT commerce MOBI also hosts events where members can collaborate on new ideas and share their experiences with implementing blockchain solutions in their businesses.
Overall MOBI's work has significant potential to transform not just the automotive industry but many other industries too. By creating a decentralized platform for secure communication between devices we could see huge improvements in safety, efficiency, and transparency across a wide range of sectors.
