My Mother was at the Jewish Home for 4-1/2 month's .My Mom has no alzheimers. She was put on a floor where there was no one there to really communicate with. You are put in your chair and left in the TV room you leave to eat and put back there until bed time. No one records what you eat or drink. Maybe if they would pay there help they would care more.
My Mother has passed now by not being monitored daily.
I would not recommend this Home to anyone and will tell them why.

The Jewish home is a really fantastic place. The facility is clean, the staff are warm and friendly, and Dr. Mateo is a thoughtful, kind, and exceptional doctor. My grandmother spent her last days here, and they were wonderful and provided her with such great care. Having worked as a long term care nurse myself, I can attest to the fact that as a general rule, long term care facilities are criminally mismanaged and the care is often inconsistent, but that is NOT the case at the Jewish home. In a perfect world, every facility would be identical to this one. I am so grateful.

The ONLY reason I am giving them two stars instead...

The ONLY reason I am giving them two stars instead of a lower rating is Tony in PT. He actually went out of his way to assist my mother in her healing after her knee replacement. The ward clerk was nice and helpful too. That being said, if you love and care for your family member I would not consider this an unacceptable option for rehab.

The food is not edible and often recycled from other meals. They will tell you this is Jewish cooking but I have friends and family who are Jewish, kosher, and excellent cooks. To say the food is bad because it is Jewish cooking is an insult to all Jews and a lovely culture with a rich culinary history.

The communication between nursing and supervisors is questionable too. My mother did not feel well and when I asked to speak to a supervisor she could not be located. I had to go to the security desk and have them find her and request that she speak with me. Not until the next day when I spoke to the nurse United Health provides through insurance did we figure out that my mother as likely suffering from dehydration! I still doubt anyone at the facility has figured that out.

Orders from the doctor were largely not looked at. They didn t have appropriate wound dressings (I had to go to Walgreens and buy some) and ice, which was specified in doctors orders, was not provided until I demanded that they do so.

In short, had she not been well enough to go home I would have moved her to a different facility because the level of care was just not there at Ovation.

I had a family member here for rehab after an orthopedic surgery and was appalled at the neglegence I witnessed. The staff all behave as if they are overworked and unable to handle their responsibilities. There are alarms going off all the time and no one answers them. I finally went to investigate and found it was people paging the nurses desk and no one was there to pick up the phone! I about went crazy with the beeping and I was only there 3 hours at a time (my relative had to endure it a week!). The food is terrible, which is not unexpected over shabbat. I also found out after 3 days of my relative acting increasing more painful that the nursing staff had been witholding pain medication (with the excuse that he hadn't directly asked for it). This is completely unacceptable in a nursing situation where older people get dementia and don't know what's happening around them to ask for something they think is scheduled already. In the dining hall, I saw othet people blatently ignored when asking for basic things like coffee (instead of gently reminding them dairy must be taken in the room). Luckily my family member was not there long, but I feel empathy for anyone who does have to stay there permanently. I would go insane if I was under hospice there. This center needs to seriously reprioritize their policies.

I can't say enough wonderful things about the Jewish Home & Care Center. A place that truly cares and goes above and beyond to see that my mother is cared for in every aspect of her recovery. As a team they are well coordinated and professional, while yet being very compassionate and caring. Coupled with the wonderful care and staff is the setting of the facility itself. Beautiful place overlooking the lake viewed through wide-open windows. Without end are the activities and programs set-up for loved ones. The food is fabulous as well. Without hesitation I would highly recommend this fabulous facility. Rated and posted by a daughter that always seeks the very best for her beautiful, loving mother.

Resident are well cared for and staff seem happy. However, this care center has segregated staff departments and this place is full of crazy internal politics. The maintenance staff all white, cleaning crew asian, black and hmong. The cna nursing staff is primarly black with a white supervisor. The team that run the show are primarly Jewish since this is a jewish establishment. Again, I want to stress that residents regardless of color seem to be treated equally. I would like to see staff qualifications re-evaluated and see people of color and minorites in leadership positions!
