Horrible waste of time and effort. As guardian for my brother with developmental disabilities and mental illness I engaged this organization for help with ongoing problems dealing with community mental health and adult foster care. The entire experience was a significant waste of time and not at all helpful for my brother. Our advocate was long on language and non-existent on help. I finally had to relocate him out of state to get him the help he needed. Despite multiple instances of CMH violations of MI Mental Health Code - they did nothing, offered no strategy and served nothing more than to provide a false sense of hope my brother would receive the help he needed. While the protection and advocacy concept is desperately needed - this organization is nothing more than empty hope from our experience. My best advice is to get a competent attorney and avoid this organization if you really want results.

I think it is a tragedy that the disabled community who already faces several barriers, receives such poor help in our community. I feel as Americans we need to stand up and take steps to reach out to our local government and let politicians know are experiences with these institutions so necessary corrective action can take place so people with disabilities are not marginalized in are society. It is in my opinion I would not recommend the services of this organization based on my experience with this organization. Thanks for reading. Best regards.

This group is the most liberal organization but kowtows to the mental health system. They treat guardians as if they are evil, useless, incompetent and heartless. They take cases where it is obvious to the court system, the local CMH and community that a person is in need of guardianship and try to terminate guardianships. They overstep, over reach and are clueless on showing compassion to those who need a guardian. They attempt to intimidate guardians and CMH in terminating guardianships without ever doing proper research or investigation. They are what is wrong with the mental health system: it is not compassionate to allow people to harm themselves simply to push MPAS s agenda that guardians are not needed.
