Who would imagine that South Beach (in Miami Beach) would be home to a theater company that is creating new plays that it produces as world premieres. I have seen more than half a dozen plays and each one is a gem. The ideal evening in an authentic Art Deco setting. And you can enjoy the scene on Lincoln Road, which is full of energy and cool places to eat or drink. Definitely check it out. It will be memorable.

The best theatre in Miami. Michel Hausmann and Miami New Drama are doing such revolutionary work. 50 years from now will speak of them in the same breath as Steppenwolf, Wooster Group and the Moscow Art Theatre

First time attending a play here and I was impressed with the theater. It is fairly small so all seats have a pretty good view of the stage. They have retained the art deco design from the 1930's which gives it a certain flair and glamour. Another plus is that it's located on Lincoln road so you have access to a wide variety of restaurants and bars.

Saw a great performance of Chamber Music Society here. Seats are a bit close together but the acoustics are good especially for chamber music, not too cavernous. Overall very good listening experience.

Beautiful restored theater in the heart of South Beach, FL. "The Cubans" wonderful production for freshman playwright Michael Leon. If you have a chance, enjoy a show here, definitely worth the visit.

About Miami Beach Colony Theater

Miami Beach Colony Theater: A Cultural Hub for Artistic Excellence

Miami New Drama is a nonprofit professional theater company that has been committed to artistic excellence and groundbreaking work unique to our community since its inception. The company's flagship venue, the Miami Beach Colony Theater, is a cultural hub that has been entertaining audiences with its diverse range of productions for over 80 years.

The Miami Beach Colony Theater was originally built in 1935 as a movie theater and was later converted into a performing arts center in the 1980s. Since then, it has become one of the most iconic venues in South Florida, hosting some of the most renowned artists and performers from around the world.

The theater's mission is to provide an inclusive platform for artists from all backgrounds to showcase their talents and connect with audiences on a deeper level. With this goal in mind, Miami New Drama has produced numerous critically acclaimed plays that have tackled important social issues such as immigration, race relations, and gender identity.

One of the most notable productions staged at the Miami Beach Colony Theater was "One Night in Miami," which explored what might have happened if Muhammad Ali had spent one night with Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown after his historic victory over Sonny Liston in 1964. The play received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike and went on to win several awards.

Apart from producing its own shows, Miami New Drama also collaborates with other local organizations to bring diverse programming to South Florida. For instance, they partnered with The Arsht Center for Performing Arts last year to present "A Special Day," an adaptation of Ettore Scola's classic film about two people who find love amidst political turmoil during World War II.

In addition to its artistic endeavors, Miami New Drama also offers educational programs designed to inspire young people interested in pursuing careers in theater or related fields. These programs include workshops led by industry professionals as well as internships that provide hands-on experience working behind-the-scenes on productions.

Overall, the Miami Beach Colony Theater is more than just a venue; it's a cultural institution that plays an integral role in shaping South Florida's artistic landscape. With its commitment to excellence and inclusivity coupled with innovative programming initiatives like "Theater Up Close" series which brings intimate performances right into your living room via Zoom or other streaming platforms - there are few places better suited than this iconic space when looking for top-notch entertainment experiences!
