Centrally located, and looking on to the cathedral. The hotel is about1.5miles downhill walk from the railway station.
Not all rooms have a cathedral view. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff are friendly and efficient.

Spent 2 weeks here for business travel.
Pros:
-Rooms were clean and the cleaning service was outstanding.
-It's centrally located so you're a couple of blocks away from everything.
-Right next to Winchester cathedral. Which, depending on your room, you might see from your window, or you might stare at the parking lot or the street..

And that's about it..

Cons:
-Right next to the Winchester cathedral, if you love hearing church bells play the same tune for six and a half hours straight, then go ahead and put this one in the "Pro" category.
-You're centrally located, so when the bar closes at 2am, you can hear people laughing and screaming right outside your window.
-My room was clean, but dated and it had an AC control unit that would rival the controls on a nuclear submarine in complexity. Basically, I had a small fan by my window for 2 weeks. Hope you enjoy bugs in your room.
-Never ate here as there are hundreds of less depressing options for meals literally in every direction.
-You need a masters degree in geometry to fit any vehicle in the parking lot larger than medium sized watermelon. This assumes you'd be lucky enough to find an open spot (You will not). But luckily there's a public lot across the street for 15 bucks for 24 hrs.

Good luck.

I was made to feel welcome as soon as I walked through the door, by reception and then at the bar. As previous reviews have stated the hotel is a little dated, but in a grand way. You can tell they take great pride in the building, everywhere was spotlessly clean and mostly well kept. Room was big, huge comfy bed and beautiful views of the grounds and cathedral. Great location for shops and night life.

Unfortunately the breakfast was a big let down, luke warm, items missing and not enough cutlery, not even a plate for my toast, but this wouldn't stop me visiting again

The location is good, the Cathedral looks great if you get a room with a view but after that I'm struggling to come up with many positives.

- The mini-bar wasn't working so after some negotiation (which was met with apathy and had to become surprisingly forceful considering the money we'd paid and the fact that we'd only just arrived) they moved us to the next-door room.
- The runner on the bed had a large ink-stain on it.
- One of the dressing gowns was worn out with a hole in the bottom.
- The complementary drinks in the minibar (that come with the privilege room) included an orange juice that was more than a week out of date.
- The hot tap handle came away in my hand while running the bath.
The bed was comfy and the decor nice but we were looking for a luxury night away and we were, frankly, disappointed.

Nice place to stay. Very quaint and especially like the historic cathedral and grounds right next door. The church bells serenade you in the evening. Overall a very pleasant experience with great staff, clean rooms, and good food.

They charge you 12 pounds just to park your car there but wont tell you until you arrive as its sneakily hidden on there website. Very misleading and lots of hidden costs. Half of the channels on the tv didnt work and i feel let down. The food is overpriced and the bathroom was dirty. Go literally anywhere else. Even mcdonalds has free wifi, the mercure does not.

The staff are very friendly, helpful and non judgemental.
The room was spacious and clean.
The buffet style breakfast was awesome.
The temperature is just right.
The environment is warming.
The prices are reasonable.
The location is spot on...next too a church.
The best hotel I've ever stayed in.
I couldn't really expect more.
Thank you too all staff.

Basic, but great location, parking can be a pain so arrive early if you're driving. Breakfast is a rip off but you're so close to town it's criminal not to walk to a nice cafe for breakfast. In a word. Functional.

A great hotel......

A great hotel......

Well possibly in the mid 80s, very tired and dated hotel, room and public areas. Carpets and general decor particularly notably dated.
