About MedWish International
MedWish International: Repurposing Medical Supplies for a Better World
MedWish International is a not-for-profit organization that has been making a significant impact in the healthcare industry since its inception in 1993. The organization's mission is to repurpose medical supplies and equipment discarded by the healthcare industry to provide them to those in need around the world.
The founder of MedWish International, Josh Altman, had witnessed firsthand how much medical waste was being generated by hospitals and clinics. He realized that many of these items could be reused instead of being thrown away, which led him to start MedWish International.
Over the years, MedWish has grown into an international organization with a network of partners and volunteers who work tirelessly to collect, sort, and distribute medical supplies and equipment. The organization operates out of its headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio but has outreach programs across the globe.
One of the unique aspects of MedWish's approach is that it focuses on repurposing rather than recycling. Recycling can be expensive and energy-intensive; repurposing allows for items like surgical gloves or gowns to be used again without any additional processing or manufacturing required.
MedWish collects donations from hospitals, clinics, manufacturers, distributors as well as individuals who want to make a difference. These donations are then sorted into categories such as surgical instruments or hospital beds before being shipped off around the world.
The impact that MedWish has made over the years cannot be overstated. The organization has provided essential medical supplies and equipment to countries all over Africa including Ghana where they have partnered with local organizations like Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra which serves as one of their main distribution centers for West Africa region.
In addition to providing much-needed resources for healthcare facilities abroad, Medwish also helps reduce waste here at home by diverting usable materials from landfills while also providing tax-deductible donation opportunities for businesses looking for ways they can give back while reducing their environmental footprint.
Medwish's success lies not only in its mission but also its ability to adapt quickly when faced with new challenges such as natural disasters or pandemics like COVID-19 where they were able mobilize quickly sending PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment) across US hospitals facing shortages during early days pandemic outbreak last year.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, Medwish International is an inspiring example of how one person's vision can make a significant difference globally. By focusing on repurposing rather than recycling medical supplies & equipments , this non-profit organization provides essential resources while reducing waste at home & abroad . With continued support from donors & volunteers alike , we can help ensure that everyone around world receives access quality health care regardless their location socioeconomic status .
