Fascinating site to learn about Oregon and NW history.

Dr. John McLoughlin hanging on the wall is creepy !!!!!!! his cold stairs as you walking up and down teh stairs is eerie ,.. but a beautiful house ...

Went on the tour with my mom and we both found it to be intresting and fun.

I love the story of Dr. McLoughlin and inside of the house how he just to live.

It's take back where OREGON started and it good place to visit. Happy trails.

This is one of the most important historical houses in the north west. It was the house of the Father of Oregon. With out him Oregon and Washington State could both be part of England or more likely part of Canada. It is a wonderful place to visit, and learn about the most important person in Oregon history and possibly Washington State history. It is also really quite fun to learn how they moved the entire house up the hill in Oregon City, with just one horse. That's amazing! It's a huge hill for one horse to do that. Dr. John McLoughlin is a VERY important historical figure for the Pacific Northwest's history, and it is a great idea for anyone and everyone to learn about him, his family, his actions, and how because of him, we can live where we do. Oregon has such an incredible, funny, and strange history.

The volunteers who give the tours were very knowledgeable and accommodating with my family.

I really enjoy history, especially of the towns around Portland. We did a city walk with our family . Started at the McLoughlin house and walked Oregon City for four hours. Got Lunch at Singer Cafe and really enjoyed our day.

Great place to learn local history. Do you know who Dr McLoughlin is and why he is so important to the local history? You should, his name is everywhere! Tours are free, donations greatly appreciated. Docents are knowledgeable and fun to listen to their true tales!

It was closed the day we were there. The grounds were in need of a landscaper. The beautiful fountain had stagnant water in it and wasn't functioning.

We had two wonderful guides and my daughter and I had a wonderful time. The house

This is a really fun place to go for a quick side trip. The tour guide we had, I believe his name was Bob, was one of the friendliest people and really seemed to enjoy teaching people about the history of the houses and their owners. The whole tour takes about a half hour so you don't have to set aside half your day either. Both houses give you a great feel for what life was like for early Oregon's more prominent citizens.

Learned so much in just a 1/2 hour. The main house, the one behind us, is closed for re-wall papering and carpeting, however the house next door, also an oldie, has guides with power point presentations and a gift shop ... where we found great books and some unique, inexpnsive gifts for the family. Got to hold a repica tea brick, like the ones tossed into the harbor during the Boston Tea Party!

This free tour was incredibly informative. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and patient with our questions. It was fun to learn about the area and the people who settled this land. The only thing that wasn't ideal was the parking, but even that wasn't terrible. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in history or museums or Oregon.

I love history and historical buildings. Richard gave my friend and I so many wonderful stories about John McLoughlin and the founding of Oregon. The building is stunning and the furnishings are incredibly beautiful period pieces. They even have a beautiful mantel clock that survived the trip west on the Oregon Trail. There is a quilt from the 1780's also. So worth the trip and the time to see it.

Grandsons 4th grade field trip during spring break. Exciting place to visit.

A great look into the early history of Oregon. Very interesting with a guided tour
(approx. 45 min. long) plus a small gift shop in a separate building,
The McLoughlin House is furnished with many of The McLoughlins' own furnishings, which are antiques in their own right, although no pictures are to be taken inside The House, unfortunately.
If you are a fan of history or antiquity this is your place to investigate. And although it is rumored to be haunted, the staff assured me that there were no ghosts to roam the grounds. However, when stepping back in time in The House it's hard to imagine there would be no ghosts visiting this time capsule!

While located in Oregon City, this is a part of Fort Vancouver Historic Site.

I have been to this site a few times, it never gets old. Haha. It is old and that's the fun. The hosts are always informative and friendly. Leave a donation. The small gift shop is full of nice things that reflect the local history and local artisans.

A great part of Oregon/Oregon City history. Staff are informative and the House has been wonderfully maintained and restored considering the 100+ year history (including the fact the House was even relocated from the flats in 1909 due to flooding). One thing I really appreciated is there is not overwhelming signage or velvet ropes. The staff are well versed and there is such a collection of furniture, art, and the accoutrements of daily life of life of the era and without such signs one can really get a feel for the house and its history. A true gem in a fascinating historic area. Thank you NPS for this as it is a unit of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. In addition the Barclay House next door even more information and a small gift shop. The small grounds are charming and you can walk to the promenade (which McGloughlin donated to the city that it be maintained as a park) and the Singer Hill waterfall and stairs.

It is closed so I couldn't go in, but it sure looked good from the outside.

School trips here back in the day. Very old school and every vibe. I loved it.
