My wife is not well and unfortunately we use the hospital quite often. During these 5 years of misfortune I can say we are very pleased
with every aspect of the hospital, including the Demmer center where my wife receives dialysis. The Cheboygan campus has been a great emergency stop for getting her stabilized before proceding to Petoskey for longer term care.

My little hospital visit 11/2018 for a myelogram was like a mini vacation for me. Everyone was super nice to me and absolutely respectful. The nurses in the recovery room/ward were the absolute best! They provided me with such excellent care, above and beyond the call of duty, and dear Lord were they just so funny! I only remember the one girls name, Chris/Kris, because it is my sons name. I wish i had wrote all their names down. Humor aides in the recovery process and Id love to have surgery there. (Which I am going to.) Even the volunteers are so helpful and caring, seeing u out to your ride, my driver commented on how friendly the volunteer was. You could see they all loved to work there (all the people I saw.)

Some of the best people and the most caring staff. So very thankful I could have my cancer treatments here. Special thanks to Sarah in radiation. McLaren also has helped me with the cancer support group that meets every Thursday.

Updated from most recent visit.

Updated from most recent visit.

Have visited in the past with great satisfaction. This review is about our last experience in the ER. My wife checked in with acute abdomen pain and was diagnosed and prescribed medication by Dr Murphy . My wife had disclosed in triage that she had taken another medication recently. Dr Murphy prescribed a medication that has a known severe drug interaction. As a result my wife ended up in our hometown ER two days later due to this error. My wife is recovering from this mistake...but unforgivable.

We have visited the ER 3 times in last 4 years for various family members including
myself. We are not originally from the area so are familiar with other Hospitals in the Midwest. Our experience was that McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital is TOP NOTCH. From check-in through triage ....friendly, efficient, and professional. We are thrilled to have such a wonderful and competent Hospital nearby. Special thanks to ER Dr. Sharp, the ER nurse (cannot remember her name), Kathy, and Vinny.

Recent stay. Urine on bathroom floor. Nurse Sue pulls a couple paper towels and proceeds to wipe it up with her shoe. Smeared it all around. Tech walked thru that mess twice every hour emptying 2 urinals. Patients wear the same pair of non slip socks for days. Every time we get out of bed and come back, we are cleaning?!? the floor and then putting our (socks) back between our sheets. EWWWEW! Nurse Mary would not give me my nighttime meds. Said I had to wait until morning. Hadn't had BP med for 48 hrs. BP was sky high. Then 2:30AM Nurse Mary was talking nonstop for several minutes 12 ft. from my door. I get up, walk out and say, you know, people are trying to sleep. She says, try closing your door, like I'm an idiot. I said, it WAS closed. Went back to bed. Mary continues to talk loudly. 2nd day Tech moved so fast, she was almost a blur. Empty the urinals, splat, splat. I said, you know, my urinal smells, it should be rinsed out. She says, I always rinse them out. NOT. The 2nd night a new patient was being admitted next door. LOUD talking. I buzzed and the Tech comes in...you know, we are a 24 hour facility. we are admitting people at all hours of the day. I say, can't someone let them know that everyone else is trying to sleep? Maybe tone it down a little. Tech leaves. Nothing changes. Terrible sanitation. Inconsiderate nurses and Techs. I couldn't wait to get somewhere clean and quiet.

Umm so this place is out of there mind!!!

Umm so this place is out of there mind!!!
I think next time I'll just suffer pain instead of going here and being emotionally beat up by the secretary/front desk or whatever they are!
I mean, I think the physical pain I was experiencing prior to going to this establishment was actually less damaging than the emotional pain I was welcomed with upon arrival at Mclearn!
Thanks

You sit in the waiting room forever 2 hours on a slow day. They say the go by severity but that is a joke all in it's own. The staff are really unprofessional and the floor in the waiting room was filthy but on a better note mr Galloway was amazing thank you

Waited for a room assignment for husband's post-op stay. Finally got it and moved his things to that room. He never showed. Finally I went to find him and discovered he was reassigned to another room with no communication to me. The worst part of that action was that he was placed in a room with a very sick patient who had the most horrendous cough I have ever heard. Sure enough, one week later when my husband was dealing with his recovery, he came down with the same virus which took two doctor visits and two different medications to get rid of. Then I had to deal with it for six weeks and a full prescription. If you want to get sick, plan a stay at McLaren. This could have and should have been avoided! Never put a post-surgical patient in a room wth a contagious illness.

Edit: As you can see below they've responded asking ME to help THEM. Why weren't you willing to actually provide good service at the time? Thanks, but no thanks McLaren.

I ve had two experiences here, one as a patient and one with a family member as a patient. Hospitals are the last place anyone wants to be, and honestly this hospital is especially one place you do NOT want to be. The staff was robotic and uncaring in both situations and some were downright rude. As a patient my doctor spent more time commenting on my appearance (gross and wildly inappropriate) than helping me. Visiting my family member we found them to be sadly almost aggressive when we asked for a second opinion or to help us dig deeper. Make the drive to another hospital any chance you get!

Tonight I drove from Grand Rapids to see my Father who I was told may not make it through the night. The late shift front desk clerk, Amy was tremendously rude and unprofessional in arranging after hours visitation for us. I cannot believe someone with her demeanor works at a hospital. I will be following this review up with a letter as well. Shame on you Amy. My Father is dying and you had an opportunity to make things a little easier on me after my 3hr drive but instead you didn't. You should NOT work with people in a setting such as this.

The nurses and CNA s were top notch. Extremely friendly, and patient. I am very satisfied with the care they provided. However, two things prevented my stay from being 5 stars. First, the guy who interrogated me once I was admitted from ER to a bed upstairs..this guy basically accused me of being a fraud? Said I was a mystery to him. Several other inappropriate things. Basically he made me feel guilty for having been diagnosed with diabetes. He gave us the creeps. Secondly, the food menu. They have a carbohydrate counter on the menu, but when I called my order in, the menu NEVER matched what I was ordering. This lead to a lot of confusion and frustration. I commend the staff for their efforts and skill. But, the other things detracted from my experience.

No patient relations.

No patient relations.
I am a 66yo with past surguries includeing major back and hip surgery, with my second hip surgery recently and discharged yesterday.
I now understand the low reviews and personally believe that a 3 star is high, maybe it's because it was memorial day holiday and and administration just wanted me out before the holiday. I'll explain this later in the review.
The nurse and pct staff at mcclaren Petoskey were either very good to very bad, no in between. Without mentioning names I will leave it at the staff who were helpful a very heartfelt thank you and to the rest not so much, you know who you are.
A little more about me as a patient and past complications I have had and that mcclaren knew about. I have in the past, chronic pain and use opiates to control this pain. Just prior to surgery the chonic pain started in my back, hip and knee and continued to take tramadol which is a low strength painreliever ,compared to what I've used in the past. Prior to my surgery on Wednesday I hadn't BM since Saturday or Sunday. I had the surgery on Wednesday and when I came to I was in more pain I have ever experienced in my life. They gave me a barage of painkiller including fentanyl, morphine and others I have not heard of. The morphine ended up taking care of the pain but the high dosage of opiates were given, have should been.
Now for my stay other than what was mentioned above regarding nurse and pct staff. As mentioned surgery was on Wednesday and a discharge scheduled for Thursday if possible. With the chronic pain in my back, left hip and swollen knee not to mention the surgery I just had the pain was horrible. I had my first therapy and a 15 foot walk was the goal for Wednesday. I got up and could only take a few steps. He said that goal was too much for me today and that tomorrow ( scheduled discharge date) we would have to achieve along with stair climbing since my house I have a total of 14-15 steps. The physical therapy tech recommendation for Thursday was not to be discharged. Within what seemed minutes the case worker was pressureing me against that decision but yet it was my decision. Friday therapy wasn't alot better I was able to make it to the doorway of my room but wasn't able to make it to the steps. Again the therapy tech recommended that I stay since I wasn't reaching my goals to be able to make it up and down stairs safely. This time the social worker AME to see me with the same pressure same lines but my decision. Saturday therapy was the worse because I was unable to recover from the chronic pain which affected both hips, both the right and left side of my back and knee. I could hardly stand and here comes the case worker along with the pressure. She offered a suggestion to go with in house therapy at a well known 5 star located in charlevoix. Once the VA was paying for the surgery, I told the case worker if she could get the VA to commit to pay for the service I would go. She said she felt sure that they would pay but I had my doubts. She returned later and said they wouldn't but got a number for me to talk to a VA rep on Tuesday after the holiday to see about getting in house therapy at either the Saginaw or Detroit VA and that only seemed my choice but when asked if okay I didn't respond and on the checkout form I put a note that I disagreed with the discharge. Mcclaren Petoskey has put me in a very dangerous situation by discharging me knowing I have a history of falling, not taking advise on the part of their own therapist. Should anything happen to me you surly will hear from me. Again I know why your rating is low.

If I could give no Star I would! They lied to me. They said that my x-ray didn't match the symptoms. Then while waiting over 3 hrs to see a doctor in the empty emergency room, I overheard the nurses call the x-ray place and said that they couldn't open the file. On the x-ray they didn't agree with keep in mind.
I've had all my care at McLaren macomb and it's all been amazing. Including a very intricate spine surgery on my cord... That unparalyzed me. Couldn't believe the terrible experience.

If I could give them a -100 I would. They are unorganized, lack in communication, tell concerned family members they are burning a bridge by being concerned. I have a family member that has been there 2 days with a terrible infection that requires surgery. They are discharging her without doing anything and told her to call Traverse. Said she has to go to the Dr that did her original surgery years ago!! I honestly am sick about it. Keep her over there with no food telling her they are figuring it out only to discharge her and she can't even WALK!! Please, do not trust them with your family members!! Might as well go to TC first.

Medical care was great but the business office, records, and billing was an absolute nightmare. The level of incompetence within the records office was truly discouraging and disheartening. There needs to be a review of business practices at this hospital. From a patient perspective they are a nightmare to deal with.

My husband was transferred from St Ignace while having a heart attack and we couldn t have asked for a better experience. He said every person that came in contact with was great and from what I saw I agree. They treated him like family, which was awesome due to limited visiting hours and limit on the people who could see him. He even sent me a picture of the sunset during his night in ICU because a team of nurses moved him to a different room with a view to watch the sunset.
A great experience for a bad situation. But we couldn t have asked for better care.

My experience at McLaren Petoskey Campus was very good. My experience with McLaren billing is another matter. Trying to work on billing with someone at McLaren's Detroit office or is it their Chicago office? Well, you get the idea. Big corporation coldness in warm-hearted Petoskey doesn't fit.

Neurology nightmare of epic proportions. I would give them no stars but it would not let me post. I was told my husband was dead only to go home and find out he was alive-the doctor told me he was disappointed when the family"just left", even though we asked multiple times if he was dead, talked about donating organs, and making funeral arrangements. Went back to hospital to spend another two days watching my husband die a second time. My husband, my family and I were treated horribly.

My father has been in at this hospital at least three times this year. And every time they send him home without finding out what the cause of the pain or issue is. He s currently in the hospital again for pain in his upper abdomen and a very high white blood cell count. And what did they do they sent a heart doctor to talk to him. My brother is in the hospital seeing him and has been there for over two hours and has not seen a nurse or a doctor at all. It was the same thing when he was in there in July I believe. The only way to get any type of help is the contact the patient advocacy. He seems to be a good person wanting to do a good job but he seems to be the only one in the hospital that does want to do a good job.

I saw another comment a gentleman said that this place should be investigated. I couldn t agree more. Two hours without seeing a nurse to me is neglect of the patient. It s a pity I live so far away or I would be in there raising hell.

Worst experience of my life!

Worst experience of my life!
I was never treated so badly by a group of so called professionals. I was taken there by ambulance from Sault MI with cardiac problems,(history of) lights and sirens.. I was treated as if there was nothing wrong, called an assumed addict because I'm a legal card carrier after 2 failed back surgeries. Even though I haven't used in 5 months.
They wanted to charge me to dispense my own medications to me, which is fraud... I'm a 56 yr old bypass patient who was treated with disrepect, rudeness and verging on medical malpractice. Needless to say I checked myself out AMA after being assaulted unjustly by their security staff. This resulted in my having a 3rd heart attack the next day...
This is why all my coronary issues are taken care of at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City MI.

Moved to Cheboyan, MI May 01, and have a particularly symptomatic Rathke's cyst for which I received referrals from my TC doctors for a neurologist, gynecologist, and general practitioner, but mostly need a MRI and blood work every 6 months to determine pituitary cyst growth, hormone levels, emerging symptoms, etc. I've been calling most business days for 6+ weeks and spending anywhere from 20 mintes to an hour and a half a day waiting for "the next available receptionist" when calling the various office numbers. When I am able to get a hold of a receptionist I am told the doctor is not currently accepting new patients, even when the number had moments ago been provided by a McClaren operator. After two complaints on their site, I received a voicemail from their operations manager requesting a callback, but who has not yet returned my calls and voicemail. A week ago I became fairly aggressive in my pursuit, as my health is declining and requiring more time taken from work hours, but despite attempts from the receptionists at my TC doctors offices to assist I cannot make contact with an office that will allow me to schedule an appointment with a doctor. I have found a physician outside of the McClaren system in the rural St. Ignace clinic, but am disgruntled with the lack of access to a center and multiple offices less than a half-mile from my home. Good luck to new patients! :)

The experience with the emergency room attending Dr/ Nurse (Hoyner?) was incredibly inadequate, extremely rude, inappropriate and unprofessional. It was shocking. Basically the system is run as a paperwork shuffling hierarchy, hospital staff social system, without regard for the people in crisis with their loved ones. Obviously it s an emergency, you have no other choice. If you can go to Traverse City, or Charlevoix absolutely DO!
Do not depend upon the nurse or doctor to have current related knowledge for the condition. Get your loved one out of the area ASAP for adequate current professionals!!!!

Our daughter went in for outpatient surgery, Dr. Gietzen is a very kind and wonderful doctor and explained everything perfectly. During recovery after surgery our daughter was taken to the pediatric floor for a few hours of monitoring until she was cleared and released. I was in awe. The wall are painted with beautiful murals to delight a childs imagination, they have a fully stocked room of toys and books and movies for the kids to access and use during their stay and they prepare a wonderful little bag of trinkets, as well as a handmade pillowcase and stuffed animal for each of the kids. The staff is extremely helpful and always have a smile on their faces. Highly recommend this hospital Especially for pediatric care

I've never had good experiences here, but when I had to take my 2 week old daughter to the ER because of RSV and possible phnemonia, they took amazing care of her. All my nurses, Lauren, Deb, Kari and Amy as well as both the pediatricians were so amazing. They came in to check on her every few hours or so and made sure we both had everything we needed. Found out my baby is anemic too and they made sure we had everything we needed before leaving. Thank you so much for taking care of my little girl.

Update: I just recently gave birth via csection to our daughter here at McLaren and I ve never had a better experience in a hospital. I ve had Dr. Ivey in the past and I absolutely adore her. She s such an amazing and caring person. I highly recommend her to anyone. All of my nurses that I had the two days I was there were absolutely amazing. They were so friendly, caring, understanding and all so very sweet. I met so many wonderful people and I m going to miss all of them.

Surgeon was the best!! My father in law was in McLaren Petosky from January 11 until January 18. Nurses knew we where 3 1/2 hrs away and had him very upset several times. He is a 78 year old DVA and knows all his meds and personal business. They would not explain his medications to him just take it. We where there all day on the 12 & 13 and could see the rudeness. Was never called as to when his surgery would be until he called us & said it was done. We where called on Thursday January 17 ,and was told he would be released on the 18 and they had a rehab that would take Medicare that was very close to us. We arrived on Friday 18 ( husband took the day off work at 35.00 hr) , expecting possibly to have to stay the night. They discharged him about noon. No walker, no meds, no nothing for a 3-4 hour trip. 20 minutes later I get a call that they discharged him 1 day to soon that the rehab would not take him. I said well we will bring him back, they said NO he s been discharged. Now we have no bed, meds, walker, toilet accommodations at our home. They said a bed & walker would be delivered by the evening, at 10:00 pm we still had nothing! With a patient that was in pain and very very upset. They did call in prednisone which I picked up at 6:30pm on the 18. We all made it through a rough night to say the least. My husband by chance e. called the rehab and they said they where excepting him last night? We took him there at noon on the 19. Everything McLaren did was wrong and they never gave anyone his VA insurance. Which if he would of gotten the bed would of been 126.00 each day without his VA. We have went through HeLL and a lot of extra expenses do to McLaren s incompetence. Now they will not answer my calls?. Wow! This is not how you treat anyone let alone a elder Disabled VA. To top it all off the surgeons office called on the 22 and wants to see him in his office in 3 days? Lol lol like what the HELL! Someone needs to make this right with us and fix this mess so it never happens again to anyone. I would take my father in law to. Vetinarian before he went back to that so called hospital.

I can t believe how straining this entire process has been. Poor care, outrageous bills, no communication...
I was admitted to the hospital after my ER visit led to getting my gallbladder removed (a ridiculously slow process thanks to poor care). It turned into a multi-night stay (because of poor care) and bills for Out-Of-Network doctors even though it's an In-Network hospital. (It should be noted that my family member who is a nurse at Munson in TC said if they have patients admit to the hospital for gallbladder surgery at Munson, they do the surgery that day unlike McLaren who admitted me and made me wait overnight until a doctor decided to do it a day later $$$).
Not one single person besides the nurses who could not tell me what was going on because they didn't get info from doctors has acted like they have cared at all about me as a patient, a person or a community member. I can t believe how many people have agreed with me and supported me since speaking out about my experience, saying how McLaren Northern Michigan is a bad hospital with horrible care. That being said, I hear the heart program is really great and the doctors in that area are wonderful (my nurse from that area was GREAT) how about bringing the rest of the hospital up to that level too? Named Top 50 Heart Hospital, you d expect that other areas of the hospital would be great too, but clearly there is a lack of communication and the contracted doctors and services are lacking. If McLaren doesn t hold them accountable, who will? It should be required that doctors serving McLaren Northern Michigan patients comply with the same insurance companies and plans that the hospital does. How does it help me to go to an IN-NETWORK hospital and receive (poor) care to later find out that all of that care was OUT-OF-NETWORK? That is misleading and unethical.

This is a review about the worst hospital experience I have ever had. I highly recommend not going here unless it s an emergency. This place use to be OK, but it doesn t even qualify for that anymore. I went here for an ER visit 12/14, the ER room I was in was DIRTY (there was a used latex glove on the floor), and super dusty. This place hasn t seen a proper cleaning in months. I was there for over 5 hours for one set of x rays, and a cat scan. Not once did they come in and check on me after my x rays (they were busy, but no one even popped their head in to see how I was doing). I waited nearly 2 hours after my first x Ray, was told I needed a cat scan and could leave immediately after. After my cat scan I had to wait another two hours for some to come in and they didn t even tell me results. When I called the nurse after an hour of waiting, she was very rude and actually even hung on me. I AM A PATIENT AT YOUR FACILITY, someone can at least give me a 30 second update. X-ray technicians and doctor as a whole were very nice, but overall it was a god awful experience. I will never recommend anyone ever go there. If you have the option, please go to Charlevoix.

I recently had surgery for my injury at Charlevoix hospital, SO MUCH better. My nurse in Charlevoix even told me she use to work at petoskey hospital and would go home crying most days because the people were so terrible. She now leaves work happy.

Again please do not go petoskey, it s so bad it should probably be shut down. Would rate it 0/5 if I could.

I have been to this hospital on several occasions, for the birth of my children as well as emergencies. No matter if I was celebrating new life or in need of comfort with a sick or hurt child, the care received at this hospital was unmatched! They truly care about each patient and we are blessed to have such a robust health care system in northern MIchigan.

Currently a patient, and the only reason I m giving this more then one star is because I have had a few good nurses that genuinely care. The nurse I have now plays favorites, is much more attentive to the person next to me. I cannot Stand when someone talks to me like I m stupid. They get irritated, or at least this one does, if you ask to many questions or ask them to do something. She s not paying attention to what I m saying and is just stuck in thinking her way is the only way. I was on a regiment of pain killers that was keeping my pain managed, as soon as she comes in the room she has a attitude aimed at me, and then decides I haven t been using enough of one pain medicine which doesn t take away my major pain. So as a result, after me requesting my stronger meds for over an hour, she comes in and tells me that she s not going to give it to me because she wants me to try to just use this stuff. HOW DOES SHE HAVE THE RIGHT TO DENY WHAT IVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY GIVEN TO HELP MY PAIN???Now I m laying here In extreme pain, thank you so much McLaren of Petoskey, I will not be coming back and I will urge everyone I know to go to a better hospital

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND

My father had an order for a stress test from the VA for his disability determination. We've been billed for this over and over after being told by hospital billing that they dont have any VA information to bill. 3 weeks, 15 hours of phone time with various VA entities and I finally get the address where this claim should go. I called the hospital and was told it was paid 2 days after my last call to them and that billing "just forgot" to transfer billing onformation. This is totally unacceptable! A waste of my time, and the stress on my elderly veteran father and myself was unnecessary. The service we received from the hospital was great, billing and accountability was horrific.

Patient relations representative is worthless. Worst possible care in northern Michigan go anywhere else unless you plan to go in for something minor and want to end up 6 feet in the ground. Personally Seen a few people check in and not check out due to negligent complications that could have been avoided. Spent the last 4 years in and out of the health care systems and seen all kinds good and bad staff. in Petoskey your lucky to get 10% well trained competent the rest are there because it's a job and won't meet even minimum safety/care standards. clueless how to run blood product infusions properly let alone cleanliness standards. They would rather remain ignorant to the lack of standards then fix them in my 3 visits from 2014-2018 with them it has only went down hill. Of 20 individuals who I talked with none had a positive word to say for this hospital. I did contact there patients relationships coordinator that resulted in nothing but a waste of time since they wish to remain ignorant of the lack of standards in there facilities. If you go here record everything the staff does with your phone people screw up less when they know they're on camera.

Discharge planning is terrible time and time again. On top of that, he told my insurance company that my visit was based on a WORK injury! When I told him it was from sleeping with stacked pillows. So now after 3 months later, still dealing with it, I got a bill for half a K, and have to call the company and tell them it wasn't, and have them call McLaren. ER is good, the young doctor was a joke.

Absolutely terrible service! I wouldn't even go here for something simple! Over 6 hours in the waiting room and a guy fell on the floor while having a seizure and took over 10 minutes for them to come out and help and then were so rude to him! Ridiculous! Terrible people and service! Go anywhere BUT here!

would give no stars if it were an option. was to get my 3rd infusion of cinqair today, couldnt get because cindy at the infusion did not order . she then lied and told me that briova pharmacy didnt have it in stock so it wouldnt be ready until friday or monday.i was on the phone with briova when she left that message on my cell phone. this is otsego memorial hospital in gaylord mi. cindy should have ordered the cinqair no later than monday. she is incompentent as well as a liar. all would different if she was honest enough to just admit she messed, but, to lie about it well not acceptable on any professional level.

If you are sick travel elsewhere!!!! This hospital...

If you are sick travel elsewhere!!!! This hospital and staff are worse than words can describe. If you love the person that needs help, drive or fly immediately somewhere else. This hospital told me I didn t have cancer and that a tumor surrounding my superior vena cava was inoperable. The surgeon butchered my surgery and severed my intercostal nerve. The doctor and entire nursing staff didn t tell me to move my arm- ended up having frozen shoulder and having to pay for 9 months of PT to even move it! These people work in a rural hospital bc they wouldn t make it anywhere else.
When I said I was getting a second opinion he stood over me and rudely said WHY. Turns out I not only had cancer but my tumor was months away from suffocating me to death. Btw this is Dr. Talbot he should not be practicing or operating on patients. He botched a simple VATS surgery, botched the thoracotomy and then decided it was inoperable bc he was just not good enough to do the surgery. Never ordered a PeT scan just decided from a biopsy that was inconclusive I didn t have cancer. The doctors are lazy and not up to date in their medical fields. Seriously, beware of this place!
When I was in the hospital for 5 days in agony bc I couldn t take pain medicine due to allergies they put people in the bed next to me who talked on their cell phones all night. Then they had the toilet next to my bed, my roommate went to the bathroom, didn t flush and it took me 3x asking the staff to close the door from the stink. The hospital was dirty as well. I am luck I survived, not worth the risk.

Easly found clean parking lot. Lots of parking and unobstructed entrance.

Entrance was orginized cleaning and seating throughout I had to use them . Doctor asked me if I needed direction and spoke to me like a normal person, not used to that :).

The floor plans of little hard to understand but clean clean I arriver early and still never got to open the new paper.

The technology was up to date and the technicians were fast and efficient and nice while correcting the orderes because there was a better way. Fielded all the health company stuff in minuets reset ....

I was was there for half the time told and got twice the work done . Everyone I mean everyone said hello.

My Mom has been a patient several times and had great care. However, she just went to leave to go to nurding facility and all her clothes, shoes, sweater jacket were missing. I have sent a letter and this needs to be taken care of or they will get an even worse review. This isn't the first time we have had an item taken in this hospital. No one should have to worry about their personal items being stolen from a hospital.
I am add ing this update. After my mom was sent to the rehab facility, her wonderful nurse Melissa, found her clothes and shoes somewhere in the hospital and delivered them in person. She then made sure my moms name was put on her items at the nursung home. The nursing staff has been great.
After reading all the negative reviews tho I am concerned as we have been considering seeing specialists and having any needed surgeries done when we are up north in the summer time.

My daughter had to go to the hospital unexpectedly for an allergic reaction to an insect. They took excellent care of her. The doctor even called her after the whole thing was done to make sure she was okay. Twice! Top-notch care. Very compassionate. So thankful since we were on vacation when this all took place.

Hospital? This place is a slaughterhouse run by psychopaths. Why does a family physician with the bedside manner of an invertebrate and the agenda of Dr. Kevorkian run the third floor oncology wing? How is it this clown has worked in half a dozen hospitals in the U.P. and Northern Lower Michigan in just the past few years? He needs to be investigated, starting with his patient roster and outcomes.

McLaren has experienced too many staff exoduses for there not to be major problems in this facility. If you find yourself as a patient here, RUN as fast and as far as you can, or get someone you trust to wheel you out the front door as soon and as quickly as possible.

Ok, I really hope someone from the ER reads this. The ER dept sucks. I brought my wife in with breathing problems, infection in her arm, and a blood clot in her arm. We've been waiting over an hour and still haven't seen a doctor. Seen the nurse twice. I pressed the nurse call button and told them she was having trouble breathing. It took over 10 minutes for someone to come. Good thing we had an emergency inhaler with us otherwise, who knows. The nurse just popped his head in and told us the doctor will be in shortly...again. I walked around the ER. It's not that busy right now. This happens every time we come here. Another item, the disposition of most of the staff is appalling. They act as if we're interrupting their day. I absolutely hate this place, but what choice do we have?
Update : At the 2 hour mark and still haven't seen a doctor.
Update : PA came in and checked her out. I think Dr. Gretzinger is avoiding us. We've had dealings with him before and he's screwed up diagnoses before.

Had my gall bladder out by Dr. Kevin Markum on 12/08/2016. Had appointment for 8:00 AM finally was taken in for surgery at 10:15 AM and my family was not notified of my condition at all. They discharged me at 5:00 PM and I had a 2 hour drive home and could not get a pain shot or script for pain and was told to take Motrin the day after surgery. Never again will they do anything on me. I have had several bad experiences there and thought they were having a bad day. But it appears this is normal protocol for them. I would not recommend them to anyone!

Brought my father in before 6. Was waiting to go in to be with him. Technician called back to check if he was ready. Nurse said he wasn't back in a room. She had to find him. I know with Covid-19 protocol it's tough, but we feel the time we waited we saw a nurse twice, lab once and CT person ( which she told us she would be back for my dad in 15 minutes) then it was another hour before she came and took hom back.
All said and done the nurse was rude and I felt she was over tired. I asked about food for my dad. And because my dad was being admitted could I quickly run and get him something to eat. She became very harsh and told me no we would have to start all over with our emergency visit. I told her I wasn't trying to upset her. My father was upset. I told her I wasn't trying to make her angry. She told me I was trying to take my dad out of the hospital. I told her no I was asking if I could take him. She said do whatever I needed to do. I said the doctor said he could eat. And I wouldrun and get him something. Because she was angry with me I feel like she didn't treat my father very well. I have had three experiences with this ER since March. The nursing staff needs classes on kindnesses. I have had 3 horrible experiences.

I am beyond upset in the way my father was 'forgot...

I am beyond upset in the way my father was 'forgotten about' after his heart procedure today. My father waited until 3pm- after having no food or drink after midnight- for his heart procedure. We were reassured that as soon as he was placed in his room for recovery, the doctor would be in to discuss the procedure, as well as the other options based upon the concerning findings that did not allow for him to have the full procedure as planned. My father was scared and upset going into this, and was scared yet anxious to discuss the results of the procedure with the doctor. At 6:30pm, 3 hours later, I had asked the nurse to page the doctor as it was getting late. He responded to the nurse that he had already completed all his follow-ups with *all* of his patients for the day and had already left the building.
-We were indeed forgotten about!-
There was no discussion of the heart procedure, no follow-up, no visitation, nothing. We sat anxiously waiting for an update. Is my fathers health not important? This is BEYOND unacceptable treatment. Now, tomorrow, the family is forced to miss another day of work, another day if school, and an additional hotel cost in order to have a SCHEDULED meeting to review everything.
Updated: The "meeting" we were told would happen at 9am was never "scheduled" as this is not something they schedule so it never happened. So we waited, again, until 3pm to talk to ANYONE when a different surgeon finally came in. It was a terrible experience of many misinformed statements and false expectations given to us. Let's pray qe don't experience the same again with his quadruple bypass.
McLaren managememt did reach out, accepted responsiblity for the experience, and apologized. For that, I am thankful.

Instead of providing a generic review response How about making a executive decision, and start liquidating your incompetent nurses doctors (K. Fulcher) aides, and entire staff at your facility (3 rd floor). I call it a facility because its far from a caring and compassionate health care hospital that we were hoping for, instead we are left with a heavy heart and guilt for torturing Our Dad. If we could go back some 15 days ago, knowing what we know now, we would of never taken him to this place!

The ED (emergency department) and the heart center...

The ED (emergency department) and the heart center are top notch. However...the nursing staff on other floors (3rd floor, particularly) are glaringly incompetent, rude, forgetful, and overall, just not capable individuals, nor do they work as a team. They forget to bring food to diabetic patients, or give them insulin without food, and in some cases, will outright lie to you. To your face. They will also forget to log certain events (bloody vomit, odd colored other bodily functions, etc.) In addition to this, they will discount information on prescription meds, if they think they either know more than previous prescribers, or just don't feel like dealing with the "hassle" of having to give meds. So overall, this hospital has been a mixed bag. It used to be a 4 star hospital, but now? 2 stars and getting worse. Their level of pay is sub average, so they don't attract the best care givers around. The nurse my mother had this last week seemed like he was just trying to cause the hospital a wrongful death lawsuit. He pushed meds through her IV that was infiltrated. Not just once, but twice! So the meds pooled in her tissue, instead of getting into her bloodstream as needed. Severe incompetence. Or maybe he just didn't care? I'm trying to figure out which is worse. He failed to log certain events, and had other failings as well.

Some meds can cause tissue death when that happens. Then, when a new nurse was put on her case, she outright lied to our faces. If you have a choice in treatment, use a different hospital. At least until McLaren quits dragging this once great hospital into the sewer.

Professional and compassionate life saving care. I was admitted to the Covid-19 unit on the 2nd floor with a not so great prognosis for recovery. I was 80% O2 at room air. I was in acute respiratory failure and my kidneys were shutting down. The Pulmonologists and the Infectious Disease Docs did an outstanding job of saving my life. The Nursing staff, Respiratory Therapists, Phlebotomists, and CNAs also did an outstanding job in my overall care. Everyone from the ED staff to the floors was great! I couldn't have found a more professional and caring atmosphere anywhere. They are in my prayers every day.

The doctor I had was less than nice. He didn't really give me any information at all about my condition. Nor did he tell me what kind of tests would be done. I just found out when they came in to do them.
My nurse Sarah was wonderful. And so was the paramedic that put my IV in.
Dennis that did my CT scan in the ER was amazing. He told me everything I needed to know. Treated me like his only patient. Got me socks and put them on me because he could tell I was cold. Him and Sarah are pretty much the only reason im giving 3 stars. I hope this info is passed on to them and they get some kind if recognition for it.

Have never been so horribly treated. Mother is in has atrial fibrillation and we are from across straits knew it was going to be bad weather told we could not even be in hospital after 9understand policies and all but my sister is her signer if needed now we are in a hotel down the road which by the way we are being treated with much respect I hope she is well enough to go home tomorrow cuz we will be taking her elsewhere for care from now on.
Update... When mom was released she was released with pneumonia Dr at hospital said she didn't have it now she has been being treated for it by her Dr who said she was released with it. Still not happy with this hospital. Some staff yes others need lessons in bedside manner. That is all...

I was admitted to the ER via EMS from Boyne Mountain and while the ER had a surge of trauma patients, for whom required far more immediate care than did myself, the nurses and doctors still took great care of me.
They made sure I was comfortable, checked pain levels, and kept me advised of their care plan as well as ETA to discharge. They apologized several times for the delay, though I was quite happy with the time frames, and thankful for the rest it provided.
I was very pleased with my care, and while not serious, was thankful and grateful for their skills and compassion.

Sad to see all of these negative experiences but I do have to say it was my first time visiting here today.

My son had surgery and was then moved to the pediatric unit. I could not believe how amazing these nurses were to him! They treated him like he was their own son/grandson. Not to mention how clean the rooms were. It was beyond wonderful to see a hospital follow such sanitary conditions.
Thank you so entirely much for making this scary experience so easy for him!!!

Slower then molasses in January going backwards up...

Slower then molasses in January going backwards uphill..... Walked into the E.R. with my girlfriend. She was in severe pain crying and couldnt sit still cause she couldnt find comfort sitting or standing. We waited in the waiting room for close to 45 minutes before even getting put into a room, which ended up being a trauma room that looked like the floor hadn't been swept in 3 or 4 days. It took 2 hours in the trauma room before she was even administered any medication for the pain. She was in tears and moving around trying to find somewhere to sit where the pain wasnt bothering her. In the 2 hour time we had all sorts of nurses and random other people coming in and out of the room to get supplies (shouldn't a hospital be stocked in all rooms?) She was ordered for an ultrasound which took an additional hour of waiting to have someone show up and take her for that. Not to mention most the people in the center desk area were standing around with their hands in their scrub pockets shooting the breeze.... Needless to say next time an e.r. visit is required. it will be a 3 hour trip to a detroit or grand Rapids hospital for any needs because this place you will die waiting for the help you need. Absolutely ridiculous.

This is a very busy hospital and wait times get to be a problem. Also, communication is a bit of a problem because we had visits from multiple doctors that were redundant. But I feel very good about the staff, I had excellent care from very friendly nurses and techs. Also, the doctor who re-did my stent managed to fix the one placed by a big hospital in Dallas. I d sooner wait longer and have it done right than quicker and have to go back in. I d go back in a minute if I needed care.

Cancer patients beware!! This hospital is not capable to handle patients who are neutropenic. The staff had to be told constantly to keep the door closed. Who knows if they washed their hand before they came in, because there is no sink in the room, other than the one in the bathroom. the nurses all have large gaudy rings on, and nails polished dark colors. Gloves!?! What are gloves? An IV was put in hands on and glove free, and everything else from swabbing lumens to switching out a saline bag were all done in the same fashion. The staff is poorly trained in blood products, the women administering the platelets (P. James) had no clue what she was doing. we told her over and over again that she was running them to slow, What!? platelet levels didn't go up, big surprise there...NOT. If I could of gave this hospital no stars I would have. If you find yourself in an ambulance heading to Petoskey hospital, I recommend wanting for a long stop light and making a brake for it. If you have cancer, and you are in Petoskey hospital right now, and you value your life. Please get transferred to a different hospital as soon as possible.
