Max's Grill & Sheep Shedde Inn restaurant in Olivia Minnesota

Went to Max's Grill on Wednesday July 10 2019 with two adults. We found this restaurant from Yelp for the area we were driving in on the way back from a two day photoshoot in SW Minnesota.

The restaurant is located on the south side of Highways 212. The restaurant is attached to the Sheep Shedde Inn and has a large parking lot with plenty of spaces. (We did not visit the hotel, but there is an attached indoor hallway that will keep you out of the elements.)

We were there for lunch and there was a seat yourself in the bar sign. Not too many other folks in there, and there were high tops and booths available for dining. There is an outdoor seating area that I think was for the restaurant - it wouldn't be high on my list to sit outside and look at tractor trailers drive past. Bathroom was clean, and the women's restroom has two stalls.

The restaurant had a special of Salmon Burgers on an onion bun with pasta salad. We both opted for the Sourdough Patty Melt.

Let's talk about food!

Grilled with fried onions and finished with cheddar cheese, we selected french fries for our side. After the fact it seemed odd that our server never asked how we wanted the burger cooked. I like rare and the burger arrived in a state that couldn't get any more well done. Lesson learned for next time, ask for level of doneness. The bread seemed more like a Texas Toast than sourdough and everything that came off the cooktop (burger, onions, bread) tasted like the Salmon special. French fries were also fried to a doneness level that made some of the smaller pieces hard. The fries also had a fishy taste to them too.

If we stop in Olivia again we would likely try a different option.

It was great The food is good The waitress was so fast that it was a little overbearing which is actually good. I'm not used to the waitress being so quick.

Ordered wings for delivery.. came half hour after time stated. One box had 4 wings. The other had 5. The bag the to go boxes were in had most of the honey bbq sauce in the bottom if it. 9 wings for $32... less than impressive.

Small quaint dining experience. Great selection of food, for something for everyone appetite!

Fantastic service and meal. I highly recommend going for dinner at Max's Grill!

My grilled salmon salad was magnificent. It was truly delicious! I enjoyed every little bit of it, from the praline pecans to the feta cheese and the warm smoky salmon fillet on top. I would definitely do it again.

Something else I really appreciated is that their menu included gluten free options, and made it very easy to tell which ones they were. I'm gluten sensitive, so this made life easier. I by no means expect such things, but was very pleasantly surprised to discover this feature of their menu.

I'd give them more stars if allowed. I'm very happy with my experience!

Friendly service, a plethora of meal options as well as a daily special. The waitress was knowledgeable and polite; let my friend and I visit and catch up. Came to check on us the perfect amount of times. The boneless wings were definitely a 5/5, must be from-scratch sauce! The BLT was disappointing as the bacon was quite fatty and it lacked overall flavor. Would definitely go back again. :)
