BEWARE THEIR CONTRACTED BODY SHOP (AND GETTING A CAR IN "SOUL RED")
I brought in my CX-5 (in Soul Red) last year to repair a dent (covered under the Appearance Package I'd bought when I leased my car). Frankly, before this incident, my interactions with Markham Mazda have been pleasant, and my main complaint is not with the dealership itself but with the body shop they've contracted to do their repair work.
After the repair, it became more and more obvious that the re-painted part didn't match the rest of my car. Now, I understand this color is extremely hard to match ... but the reason why I bought the Appearance Package Warranty was because, at the time of purchase, i was told that "no one besides Mazda would be able to match this color". And while I knew a match couldn't be perfect, I thought it'd be reasonable to expect my car to not look like Frankenstein.
I brought back my car, and the bodyshop (contracted by this dealership to do all their repair work) agreed to repaint it...but with the disclaimer that "it'll likely look the same as now - either darker or lighter than the rest of your car - that's the best I can do unless you pay to repaint the entire side of your car". Yagnesh, the sales manager, commented that "Unless you get a white or black car, every time you get any part of a car repainted it s going to look darker or lighter than the rest of the car, so don t expect this repainted car door to look like it will match after. Funny how they don't tell you that when they sell you the car in Soul Red ...
I've posted photos of the paintjob - after the first repainting, and after the second. Even after the second attempt, the car door is STILL darker than the rest of the car, and furthermore, has orange peeling all over. According to what I've researched, orange peeling occurs when it's a poor paint job (either poor drying conditions or poor painting technique with too much paint at once). Markham Mazda's response to this was to tell me to lease another car with them ... ?! It feels like they didn't care too much about how the repair was messed up, because now, there's more pressure to lease another car when my lease is up instead of buying it back.
I've spoken to another Mazda dealership since, and they, too, are shocked at the repair job - both the orange peeling, and the obvious mismatch. The only compensation I've been offered by Mazda Canada is a "better deal on a new lease"... but after this incident, I'm hesitant getting another Mazda. It's unfortunate because I think the biggest disappointment and party at fault isn't even the dealership, but the poor quality work put forth by their contracted body shop. It's frustrating to be left with a Frankenstein car - a car I once loved! - but looking at it every time now makes me cringe. I feel like I've been cheated.
Moral of the story - 1) Beware bringing your car to this dealership for repairs (especially paint jobs) and 2) Beware purchasing a car in Soul Red (it's beautiful, yes, but potentially a huge pain to repair/repaint)
