About Many minds
Many Minds: A Mental Health and Performance Charity
Many Minds is a unique mental health and performance charity that aims to facilitate creative spaces and make performances. As a member-led organisation, Many Minds puts people who identify with experiences of mental ill-health in the driver’s seat as a way to break down stigma and trigger generosity and equality. The charity works with individuals to engage with their creativity, improve confidence, and promote positive mental health.
Many Minds was founded in 2016 by a group of artists who wanted to create an inclusive space for people experiencing mental ill-health. The founders recognised that there was a lack of opportunities for people with lived experience of mental illness to engage in creative activities, which can be incredibly beneficial for improving wellbeing.
The charity's mission is to empower individuals through creativity, providing them with the tools they need to express themselves freely while also promoting positive mental health. Many Minds believes that everyone has the potential for creativity regardless of their background or experiences.
One of the key ways Many Minds achieves its mission is through its workshops. These workshops are designed specifically for people experiencing mental ill-health and provide them with an opportunity to explore their creativity in a safe environment. The workshops cover various art forms such as drama, music, dance, writing etc., allowing participants to find what works best for them.
In addition to workshops, Many Minds also produces performances that showcase the work created by participants during these sessions. These performances are open not only to members but also the wider community as well.
Many Minds' approach is unique because it recognises that those who have experienced mental ill-health have valuable insights into how best they can be supported on their journey towards recovery. By putting these individuals at the forefront of decision-making processes within the organisation itself - from programming decisions right down through administrative tasks - Many Minds ensures that it remains true both its values as well as its commitment towards inclusivity.
The charity's work has been recognised by many organisations, including the NHS and the Arts Council. Many Minds has also been featured in various media outlets such as The Guardian, BBC Radio 4, and The Independent.
Many Minds is a charity that is making a real difference in people's lives. By providing opportunities for individuals to engage with their creativity and promoting positive mental health, Many Minds is breaking down stigma and creating a more inclusive society. If you are looking for an organisation that values creativity, inclusivity, and mental health - then look no further than Many Minds!
