One of the few Italian food restaurants with (more or less) European Italian food and not US-American Italian food. It is (of course) not like in Italy but still more Italian than other restaurants in the area. Great food, good prices. Nice place to be!
I hope the new owner keeps this up! Great food, giant portions (read, WORTH the money), and very friendly wait staff.

First time going since it changed names. There was an issue with the chef, either called out or new. Not sure what the waitress said. Bread was not baked thru, inside was raw. Food took a long time to come, over an hour. It was a Tues night, place was mostly empty. Some of it was good, some was overcooked. Fries were cold. Better experience when it was Joey Garlics.
In response to owner's comment: we were there at 430 pm. There was no large party at that time. Only a few other tables were filled in main dining room. The waitress said someone had called out and something about a new chef being on their own for the first time. We waited well over an hour for our food. The waitress kept coming over and apologizing.
There Sicilian pizza WAS great till they took it off the menu. Portions are huge. Food is good.

I recently got back from Italy and couldn t wait to come back to CT to eat dinner at Mama Luke s! The dishes were better than what I ate in Italy. I had to go overseas to learn that but now I m back and enjoying what I have right at home:)

Waited 35 minites for 2 appetizers , eggplant fries were greasy soaked in oil , fried calamari was tough like rubber. We have been coming here for years always very good WHAT HAPPENED ? It was late afternoon 5 oclock and not that busy.
Since their name change from Joey Garlic's this place has struggled a bit. Although I've been told the cook and owner has not changed, only the name, the food seems to have changed. It is nowhere near as flavorful as it once was. The staff are still friendly in the bar area and it is still a good local option. Hopefully they will get their sea legs back.
Ordered the Philly cheese grinder and it was so good. The size of the grinder was more than enough, it had great flavor, tons of steak, plenty of peppers and onions and mushrooms as well. Highly recommended!

First time there since Joey Garlic's. Had the eggplant fries the little sliders, wings, salads, and tuna fish sandwich with a salad. Was there with my best friend and cousin. We were very satisfied. Will be going back.
The grinders here have always been top quality, with a crunchy and tasty bread and with generous portion of meat. Today I ordered a steak and cheese and it was terrible. The bread tasted completely different. It was soft but seemed stale at the same time. It crumbled and didn't hold the steak in. The steak was also completely different. It was very tough and hard to chew. I called and asked to speak to the manager and explained the situation. The manager seemed totally apathetic. He explained to me that they have changed the vendor for the steak, but not for the bread. I explained how this didn't make any sense as both the bread and the steak, tasted totally new and definitely terrible. The manager then stated that they prepared the order as expected and didn't have much to offer me. He then begrudgingly said that he could take some of the price of the grinder off my bill. I paused for a second on the phone as I was thrown off by this statement. Before I could ask what does that mean exactly, he hung up the phone on me. No I am not kidding. Probably the worst customer experience I have encountered. It was worse than the grinder.
The portions are huge food is good atmosphere is decent and the prices are good especially for the size of the dish you get!

Amazing food, huge portions enough for dinner the next day. And at very reasonable prices. From the moment you open the door you are greeted and served by very friendly staff all with smiles on their faces.
Usually pretty good. Ordered a full size grinder to eat in. It arrived a soggy mess and after a couple bites i asked for new bread, still wanted the grinder because otherwise it was fine. They brought me back HALF a grinder on new bread. Still charged us for the whole grinder. It would have been nice to have the full meal back or an adjustment on the check.
Always good food. Nothing has changed from Joey garlic's. Service is outstanding, at least in the bar.
Great place for family and friends you meet. Has wine and beer. Had margherita pizza that was very authentic and nice thin crust. Service is quick. Service staff very friendly.
Great ingredients. Salads and most toppings are delicious. I just find I don't care for their marinara, whether it be for pizza sauce or the Bolognese, it just tastes... Bland? Burnt? I don't know, just not a fan after several times in. I love their Fagioli, and they have a great crust.
The food was good, but it took well over an hour to get our entrees, and when we got it, we got the wrong food, and waited 15 minutes extra for the right food, had to ask 3 separate times to get the bread we ordered, and the waiter checked on us only 4 times throughout the night.

Love Mama Lukes food. The cheese tortellini with tomatoes melts in your mouth! Sometimes we just go for a plate of spaghetti and meatballs because we love their sauce. Some people like the pizza, but the last time we went we got a margarita pizza with sausage and the bottom crust was soggy. Definitely gonna stick to pasta there. Also , they only have gigantic portions and don't offer any normal sizes so if you don't like leftovers, better split a meal....and even that can be too much. I think it's ridiculous, but it's supposedly their claim to fame.
We found this place by chance and were pleasantly surprised. Portion size was good enough for seconds, prices good. Decent Italian food good service nice clean place. Next time we are in that area we will be stopping bu again.

Usually pleased with the food here. But tonight we got takeout and when we got home and opened the box we found three, long black hairs in our pizza.....none of us have long black hair. It was repulsive. Not sure we ll be returning anymore. We definitely didn t order hair as a topping...

Bring your appetite; large portions of great tasting food. Try the oversized grinders or their zucchini fries and you will not go wrong ordering the pizza. It's all good

Food is pretty good, but takeout is getting ridiculous. Had to wait another 20 minutes on top of the 50 minutes for the initial order. Some of the other people waiting for food were north of a half hour of waiting on top of their initial time. DON'T PAY UNTIL YOU RECEIVE YOUR FOOD
Food and service was excellent. We will be going back again. So many more dishes to try.

Good food and all but on a night where there was barely a soul in there, we waited over an hour for 2 pasta dishes. All our server said was I don t know what s going on back there . He didn t want to give a direct answer or anything.
Love this place!! The food is always amazing and quick. The management come up to you and ensure you're satisfied, and even the girl at the bar is super helpful!! Believe her name is Agnes. Highly recommend this place!

Love Mamma Lukes as much as when it was Joey Garlic's, especially once I saw the SOPRANO grinder as a new addition!...BUT I went to order it a couple weeks ago and its no longer on menu and can't order it!!! WHAT???? I'm not happy, I raved about that being the best grinder around! Please bring it back!!!
There were 14 in our party and the service was great. Our server was very good, pleasant and efficient. The eggplant fries were fantastic, addictiveand the salad was great. We hand ordered a variety of pizza's and they fantastic. Personally, I think are better than Pepe's.
Joey Garlic's used to be a great restaurant! Mama Luke's in NOT! Big thumbs down!!! The new owner claims that the only thing that has changed is the name...not true; the menu has changed and the portions got smaller. For example: Joe Garlic's used to sell pizza slices that were literally a quarter of a large pizza. I just bought a slice of pizza from Mama Luke's and it was literally a third of the size of what it used to be. I will not be going back.
