About Makerversity
Makerversity: A Hub for Creativity and Innovation in Central London
Makerversity is a unique co-working space located in the heart of Central London, specifically at Somerset House. It is a hub for creativity and innovation, providing its members with access to state-of-the-art prototyping facilities, business support services, and an inspiring community of like-minded individuals.
The company was founded in 2013 by Tom Tobia and Joe Caine with the aim of creating a space where makers, designers, artists, engineers, and entrepreneurs could come together to collaborate on projects that push the boundaries of what's possible. Today, Makerversity has over 300 members who work across various disciplines such as product design, fashion tech, robotics, architecture and more.
One of the key features that sets Makerversity apart from other co-working spaces is its focus on providing cutting-edge prototyping facilities. Members have access to a range of tools including laser cutters, 3D printers (FDM & SLA), CNC machines (milling & routing), electronics lab equipment (soldering stations & oscilloscopes) as well as traditional woodworking tools. This means that members can take their ideas from concept to prototype all under one roof.
In addition to these facilities Makerversity also provides business support services such as mentorship programs which help members develop their skills in areas such as marketing strategy or financial planning. The company also hosts regular events such as talks by industry experts or workshops on specific topics related to making or entrepreneurship.
Makerversity's location within Somerset House adds another layer of value for its members. Somerset House is one of London's most iconic cultural institutions with a rich history dating back over 400 years. It has been home to many famous residents including Queen Elizabeth I who lived there during her reign. Today it houses various arts organizations including The Courtauld Institute Of Art which offers world-class art education.
Being located within Somerset House means that Makerversity members have access to a range of cultural events and exhibitions throughout the year. This includes the annual London Design Festival which takes place in September and sees Somerset House transformed into a hub for design innovation.
Makerversity's community is made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds who share a passion for making and creating. Members come from all over the world, bringing with them unique perspectives and experiences. This diversity is reflected in the projects that are created within Makerversity, which range from wearable tech to sustainable architecture.
In conclusion, Makerversity is more than just a co-working space; it's a community of makers who are pushing the boundaries of what's possible through collaboration, innovation, and creativity. With its state-of-the-art prototyping facilities, business support services, inspiring location within Somerset House and diverse community of members - it's no wonder why Makerversity has become one of London's most sought-after creative hubs.
