Mahoney's Garden Centers Review

The store has the largest selection on plants in the Boston area. People are very friendly there and the price of plants is reasonable. I enjoy my visits from time to time.

I love this place. Knowledgeable friendly staff; good selection (although this time of year things are a little skimpy, as it's generally too hot to plant). In terms of pandemic precautions, masks are required, entrances, exits, and aisles are marked one way. It was not crowded on Monday morning at 9 and I felt perfectly safe.

Bueatiful plants of all kinds. ( Garden, indoor,yard ). I spend too much money here.

The perfect winter wonderland garden center. They have everything from tree ornaments to nutcrackers and wooden carved characters. Homemade garland and fresh wreaths are the best scents! And then there's the tree center. Huge selection and many different types of trees, and the staff is more helpful than you could ask for! It's always a joy to go back every year!

The only downside is the sheer size of the place. It's huge, and they have everything. It's truly a wonder; everything from bizarre succulents to heirloom tomatoes to spectacular orchids. Staff is knowledgeable (for the most part). It's not cheap, but it's worth it.

The selection & type of plants they offer here are amazing. I have always loved coming here & just walking around looking at ideas for my home. They really are unique & offer great information on how to take care of all the plants they sell. Can t wait to go back.

Mahoney's is a local institution. Plants always look great and they have a wide selection. Their vegetable starts are always healthy and grow well. You will not find any bargains here, nor smaller "starter" plants, but everything is first quality. (**Do try to catch the late season specials, though, for great prices on whatever is left over.)

They also carry garden tools, landscaping supplies, garden ornaments, mulch in bags or bulk, and a lovely selection of indoor plants and gift plants.

Note: The Winchester store is the Mother Ship but I also go to the smaller store in Tewksbury, and the medium size one in Chelmsford.

Great place with a wide variety of choices.Staff was very helpful but it was hard to tell staff from the customers.There was no company shirt, name tag or anything to identify them.

Really good plant selection for flowers. Way better than home Depot, and quite a large variety.

This store probably has one of the largest selection of plants ,trees and shrubs in Massachusetts.Lots of beautiful stuff here for plant lovers.

Great selection of flowers! My wife and I buy the seeds/plants for our garden here every year. We always get a good yield. The Christmas trees are very high quality, and appropriately expensive.

Went looking for a Christmas tree and the selection was really good this year, the guy who ended up helping us was Great! In and out with my tree tied to my roof in less than30 mins..

Excellent nursery for indoor and outdoor plants and gardens. Excellent Christmas trees too, when the holiday arrives! Save time and get better quality than the hardware super stores.

Best garden center anywhere. Been going there since the 60's as a kid, and recently using delivery a lot. Never disappointed in their flowers, particularly the poinsettia's at Christmas which are huge and a great value.

My favorite place. A massive selection and reasonable prices. Plus if you join their reward program, you will periodically receive coupons!

Very unhelpful, very reluctant to stand by their plantings. Three times they've planted Arborvitae for my condo association, and all three times at least one of the trees has died. They make it very, very difficult for the customer to get the trees replanted. Insist that you come to them with proof, on a weekday, etc. Terrible customer service.

Provides broad assortment of garden plants and tools. Plant stock is fresh this time of year.

The help is great in anseering any questions. They have a great inventory of plants, shrubs and trees. The quality of the plants,shrubs and trees is excellant. Big discounts available this time of year. The Christmas set up is starting and they have some great products displayed, never to early for Christmas shopping.

Really huge nursery with great variety of plants. I am a beginner and I liked the collection. Staff is very polite too. Will surely go again.

If I could post a negative star I would. The customer service at Mahoney's in Winchester is by far the worst I have ever encountered. I purchased a tree paying $200 on the spot but needed to come back another day with the proper vehicle to pick it up. When I returned within the time-frame specified they had sold it to another customer. They were very rude about finding me another tree and acted like they couldn't be bothered and as if I had done something wrong. On top of it my sunglasses mysteriously disappeared while I was completing the refund slip. I will never buy another thing from this place again.

Large selection of plants, large store grounds, extremely polite and helpful staff. Better quality plants than box stores, more likely to come back. I've been a repeat customer for many years because their service is so nice.
Note: They're taking COVID19 seriously, lots of staff sanitizing carts and regulating flow into green houses. Extremely organized! I'm very impressed.

I order flowers for my Mother's 50th birthday and was very unhappy with the arrangement for the amount of money.

Worth visiting just to stroll around. A great selection in a pleasant setting. Also a good choice when looking for a Christmas tree.

You need it, they have it. Put on your walking shoes before you go because that's how big the layout of this place is..... huge! Lots of nice people to help you find what you're looking for and prices can't be beat.

Helpful, nice people. But INCREDIBLY overpriced. Some trees go for $400. They had a 2 ft. arborvitae for $79, while Home Depot had the same exact plant, 5 ft, only $49.

I love Mahoney's! Maybe I have a little bit of a bias because I've been coming here since I was a kid but this place is still fantastic. The Christmas trees are always beautiful, their indoor garden is amazing and they always have the right plants for the occasion. They may seem a little pricey on some items but you definitely get what you pay for. Also it's a locally owned family run farm. So if the amazing products at a good price didn't get you already I'm sure the staff will.

Lots of selections but getting help cam be difficult during a busy day in spring!

(My photos are from August btw) I haven t been to all the Mahoneys locations but this one is HUGEEEEE!! It s 3 greenhouses big: 1 greenhouse has outdoor stuff & planters, other 2 are houseplants! Lots of hanging plants and big adult plants. They also have a grey tabby cat wandering around too, she s friendly but not a huge fan of pets. she just likes independent exploring and hunting chipmunks as seen in my last photo!

Stay away or triple check your plant purchases for infestation/bugs and ask for a longer service guarantee. While I initially liked this branch of Mahoney s, after spending close to $700+ on indoor plants this past summer, almost all of the house plants (including the ones not purchased from Mahoney s) are now infested with mealy bugs, scaly insects that produce sticky residue, white spores, etc. Mahoney s refunded one plant afterwards (yeah, just one) and because of my experience, called up an extermination company and spent a weekend spraying all three greenhouses. One of the managers said she wouldn t buy from this location herself for a while. My loss of time and money has been a burden, not mentioning the replacement costs I ll be going through over the next year. In addition, Mahoney s should really initiate more dynamic pricing, as its pricing can definitely be higher than other retail plant nurseries on many items.

I and my wife totally love this place. Store has wide variety of healthy plants (tropical, indoor and outdoor) and gardening supplies such as soil and other things you may need for your plants.
The Christmas trees are always beautiful, their indoor garden collection is nice and they always have the right plants for the occasion! During Christmas season, store was sparkling, colorful and festive mood with Christmas decorations. Highly recommend it! Truly, this place is Plant lovers paradise!! Check out the pics :)

Always the best variety of the healthiest plants. Best value - more bang for you bucks! And the nicest staff. Even the seasonal staff are smiling.

Plenty of selections. Beautiful pottery shop. Imo a little pricey, but I dont really know what to compare it to. Employees are nice. They move stuff around a lot so you could actually spend hours here.

I've been gardening for a couple of decades, and I've visited countless nuseries/garden centers. Nothing compares to Mahoney's! They have a great variety of plants, trees, and shrubs, a florist, a seasonal decoration area, pots, bulbs, birding seed and equipment, etc. The people who work there are very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. While the prices can be a little steep, you will always get your money's worth. Fun just to walk around, even if you don't buy anything.

One of their staff, Jim, was so helpful, you won't find this type of sincere help at a big box store. Thanks Jim!!

Brighton store:

My wife and i were concerned while at your Brighton location the place was too busy too many people and it was not safe some basics were in place but super markets have more care for there employees and customers than your place in Brighton is doing. Would it cost you so much to do the same things trader joes is doing? I love going there often but the fact that you seem to care more about $ than us your customers and putting your employees at risk is something that was very disappointing. Should you not require that everyone wear a mask? Even home depot lets only a certain number inside their garden center and a mask is requirred. Arent you better than home depot? Rob Russell

The staff tells you they will replace a plant within a year if it fails when they are selling it but they wouldn't replace the dead tree when I brought it back in within the year guarantee. (It died shortly after planting but I wasn't able to get back with it). Their policy is not specified on the receipt or the website so I guess they can make up the rules as they go along regardless what you've been told.

Very safe, well organized, terrific stall. Dinner plate dahlias are in!!
