My husband has been in to the ER twice for crippling chest pains, and both times it felt like our concerns were not taken seriously and we had to push for extra tests to be done because they just wanted to send us home. We were charged all that money for basically nothing. They wouldn't even talk to my husband's dad, who was trying to advocate for him, even though my husband tried to give them the permissions necessary to talk to him and they wouldn't tell us why they couldn't. Would not recommend the ER. I only give the 3 stars because we had a good experience delivering our baby there.

I ve been to hospitals all around the country (like world renown hospitals for specialist treatments) I have never been to such an amazing hospital before! The nurses are absolutely fantastic! Extremely kind, helpful, and knowledgeable! Dr D Hansen was a wonderful surgeon, he actually did what was best for me and not just what he wanted. Also, BEST HOSPITAL FOOD EVER! Actually, best food in Rexburg! Literally, like it was amazing food and I m a very picky eater. Best hospital experience I ve ever had (and I ve had close to a hundred).

If I could leave zero stars I would. Actually no, half a star is sufficient because they at least kept my ex alive and sent my roommate home in one piece.
First incident is when I had to bring my ex there for a drug overdose. The nurses laughed at me not 5 feet away and then sent me out into the hall (where I could hear the laughing better) so someone could put a catheter in him. Like I haven't seen--anyways.
Next time I took someone there, it was my current roommate and lifelong friend. She has been suffering from extreme migraines and eye pain regularly. We've taken her to them twice and both times they had no answers other than to give her pain medicine. Next time, and there WILL be a next time since we still don't know what 's happening, we are taking her to Idaho Falls.

I went to the hospital to have an upper GI done on a Friday. They could not find my order from the doctor, my doctor s office was closed on Friday. Went to the ER on Saturday to have done because I was in intense pain. Explained to check-in that I needed an upper GI done to make sure my stomach did not have ulcers or open up from a recent surgery. Then told the Nurse, then told the Intern, then after 2.5 hours told the doctor. His response, We don t do that procedure on the weekend, sorry, bye. I asked, Could I go to an IF ER to have done? His response, 50/50 chance it could be done. Then he left. No let s figure out where you can get this done; No, lets try and get a hold of your doctor; No, treatment even for the pain and major discomfort. Most Unprofessional visit in my Life. As you will see with other 1 Star reviews, the Care Advocate and Care Committee can review your situations. I went through this process asking them to not bill me or my insurance because the service I SPECIFICALLY went to the ER for was not given. Their response was you should ve known that this was a service that has to be scheduled and is not offered on the weekend. I told them that was ridiculous. When going to the ER, your expectation is to get help. The general public will not know what is offered and what is not offered. The care advocate themselves admitted they did not know about this situation and had to research it. This is a hypocritical statement from them. Also, when talking with the care advocate, I said if the doctor deemed this a life-threatening circumstance, they would get someone there to get the procedure done. When I asked the care advocate to respond to this, she hung on me. Prior to that she said, What I went to the ER for was not an emergency. I record all my calls and have this saved. I recommend everyone to stay away from Madison Hospital. Not only is there staff not trained and unprofessional, but their CARE ADVOCATE is equally unprofessional.

The staff in Labor & Delivery was amazing! I ve had 6 babies here and 1 time (10 years ago) my L&D nurse wasn t amazing, maybe it was her off day. Mother baby unit is amazing as well always ready to help! However, when it comes to being discharged...I think it could go A LOT easier if they communicated more. Over all 6 of our babies we were told we would be able to leave as soon as the baby was 24 hrs old. That never happened, always hours after...some times due to poor time management on what had to be done & they wasted the day. But mostly by not properly communicating. For example one of the discharge labs for the baby, I found out via google yesterday, cannot be done until the baby is 24 hrs old. Was that EVER communicated with any of my 6 babies? NOPE! They said we will discharge you when baby is 24 hrs old. How can that be true if the lab cannot even be drawn until the 24 hr mark? I waited and in this case paid for a babysitter to watch my other kids for 2 extra hours! Communicate! I understand you want to get home as quickly as possible, after the baby is 24 hrs, we can try to get as close to that as possible unfortunately we cannot check the baby for jaundice until he is 24 hrs old. As soon as we get the results back & if they re normal then we can discharge you. Much better & it s the truth! If they had communicated that I wouldn t have been planning on leaving until after that lab and would have not gotten the babysitter at the 24 hr mark & just let her know it wouldn t be until after we got the results back on a lab. Easy. Every mom wants what s best for the baby so just communicate on what s being done.

We have had both our children born here, and both times the experience has been amazing. The nurses are knowledgeable very helpful and willing to do whatever they need to to meet the needs of their patients. The rooms are very comfortable and are a great experience for birthing and the postpartum stuff. Everything was clean and inviting and created an atmosphere that was wonderful to welcome children into. Much of the stress and worry was alleviated due to the professional staff and caring providers. All-around great experience.

This hospital is NOT Veteran friendly! They sent my brother home on a Friday afternoon with no medication & a severe blood clot & he died early on Tuesday morning at the age of 39. They sent his prescription to the VA after 4:30pm on Friday. He talked to the nurse on Saturday and she said nothing about him needing to return to the hospital after being off the medication. BEWARE VETERANS go elsewhere to save yourself & defiantly get a second opinion to be sure you are told the whole truth of your conditions.
FYI - you have less then 6 months to file a malpractice suit, do not wait!
** Terry Howe doesn't actually want to advocate for patients and will hang up on you, She doesn't actually want to talk to you. She will talk at you and then hang up and not let you talk to her supervisor. She also does not answer again when you try to call her back after she hangs up on you!

Overall I would say this is a pretty good hospital. I went in for an accidental drug overdose and was treated mostly well, although my ER doctor gave me bad vibes. I can't remember his name. But all of the nurses and assistance in the ER were great to me. When I got transferred up to the ICU those nurses and doctors were beyond excellent! So very kind to me. And most importantly there is a counselor that works there who I owe a great deal of gratitude for!
