When looking for a place to eat with my wife while on vacation this past week I did a search of local places close to Sea Pines where we were staying. This place was one of the first places to pop up and I read some of the reviews. The lower valued reviews are always the first ones I read. Whenever I read negative reviews that say things like "the food was too expensive", or "they were too busy to seat us", they make me feel good because I know that means it will be a place I will enjoy. There is a reason they couldn't seat you, they are busy, because it is a very good place to eat. If you wanted a quantity of food on the cheap, head down the road to Golden Corral.

Our experience was very good. The food was excellent and the service was very friendly. I will be back every year.

Amazing meals all around!! I had the blackened catfish and it was a take on it that I had never seen before with a curry feel but not spicy and very filling. Chris was a great server with the perfect balance of knowledge and wit! He made the dining experience that much better, answering every question with an obvious level of training in the craft. I 100% recomend giving Lucky Rooster Kitchen a try if you are on Hilton Head Island!

Worst restaurant experience of my life. My family ...

Worst restaurant experience of my life. My family and I ate there one Saturday evening after just arriving for vacation. It looks like a totally normal/casual restaurant from the outside which is their first mistake. As we walk in the male host was immediately rude. I assumed he was some sort of management just the way he carried himself. You'll know him when you see him. He's a tall, lanky, twig of a sissy looking man. So, we get inside and my almost 80 year old grandfather was up against the door. There was no room whatsoever. The male rudely tells my papaw to please stop standing up against the door so they could keep the cold air in. He knew there was no where else for him to stand too. Respect your elders. They looked at my entire family like trash. Then the male host or whatever he was looks and us and says "can I help you"? Basically he asked us why were we even there. He then proceeds to tell us that is "courtesy" to make a reservation before eating at their restaurant. Umm excuse me but shouldn't this be on your front door? Then rudely says"well I guess I can find room for you all." I wanted to leave at that point. As I tried to walk into the dining, which is not as fancy as the employees let themselves think, he looks at me and tells me to immediately remove my hat that there will be no such thing in "his" dining room. And also told my poppy to remove his and left his on anyways. The waitress was okay. The food was edible. If you like bread that taste like cardboard then this place is for you. I ordered chicken and honestly would have gotten a better meal at kfc. And just FYI expect to spend 100 to feed 4. This is just for the food only! What I thought was absolutely comical is that al of the staff was dressed in flannels and jeans. Like? Please do not look at my family and I like trash because we are not dressed in "dress" attire when your staff is in the most southern outfit possible. I'm a retail and consumer science major, I think I would know. My family comes from Tennessee and are very well educated with bachelor degrees or further. Next time we decide to drop 100 for food it definitely will not be at this joke of an establishment. I'll be taking myself to the oyster factory or Alexander's. Everyone I know back home in Knoxville will definitely be warned about this place before vacationing in Hilton Head.

Foodies must try this! Great selection of food with a creative twist. Located steps away from the beach Lucky Rooster has an inviting atmosphere for a quick service restaurant. Kids will be happy too as they have popular kids meals and good desserts. Service was awesome and they have inside and outside seating depending on the weather.

Let's just star off by saying my 9 year old thought this place was "sssooo much better than The Waffle.House." What higher compliment could you possibly receive?!

Had a very short wait on a Saturday night. The service and atmosphere were excellent. I honestly felt underdressed with my beachy attire. Although, most were dressed casually..

We had the catfish and the shrimp and crab rice dishes from the large plate section of the menu. Both were excellent. The portion sizes were adequate and the meals relatively pricey, but thst was to be expected.

Limited selections and not a great variety. Only one choice of ways to have entrees, they don't offer two or three ways to have items prepared. Small portions and no sides with basic meal. Appetizers were not good. Very high priced. Only drinks were good.

I had one of the best meals of my life here. Our server was friendly, professional and helpful. The farm to table menu was well thought out, diverse and interesting. The chef could hang with Michael Simon, Zach Bruell, and Jonathan Sawyer any day. We will definitely be back soon.

Led by talented local chef/owner Clayton Rollison, who has served as a guest chef in the James Beard House, this "American bistro with Southern soul" is not-to-be-missed. The service and unique season-inspired menu, with favorites such as roasted octopus and Whole Hog Hash, are exceptional. Wish I could resist the fried chicken skins! :)

Able service was excellent! I did not wait long for the server to arrive. She promptly informed me about the specials and asked if I wanted a drink, but the hostess had already taken my drink order. I had the Soft Shell Crab special on Texas toast. Yum! I then had had the flounder pesto pasta which was also tasty. It was followed by the Cathead Biscuit and French Press Coffee. I was alone and covered my drinks, but when I came back, the Gin & tonic was gone. They were awesome, they replaced it. They make their own tonic which was also very good. Very good service and food.

Cereal Milk Ice Cream is excellent but $9 for three small scoops is too much. Actually the whole menu is overpriced. Ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. Server said it came with three tomatoes. Actually it was three thin slices of a smallish tomato. Decent beer selection. Lamb leg was way overcooked to the point I could hardly taste it was lamb. I found myself reaching for the salt which is never a good sign. Fried chicken was good with an excellent spicy honey but again, overpriced.

We came here last summer, and it was truly one of the best meals I've ever had anywhere. The chef is a genius. I'd come back to HH just to go there again! If you like "down-home" Southern cooking with an inventive gourmet flair, this is the place to go!

Food was good, half a chicken entree seemed to be the best bang for the buck - amount of food per cost. I am 8 months pregnant and wasn't very hungry, I asked if I could order off of the children's menu even though it said 10 and under and was not allowed. They also did not allow swapping of sides, you had to buy another side if you didn't like what came with the entree!

The waitress (Alexus)was outstanding. The general manager was distracting as he constantly hovered over all of the employees. The salads we experienced were 5 star. Our appetizer of chicken livers were not ratable as the breading was indistinguishable from the actual minute piece of liver. The chicken and shrimp dishes were okay. The New York steak was perfectly cooked, but not too edible as it was full of gristle and fat. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and very clean.

We couldn't wait to try this restaurant and it was fabulous!! It's easy to find and easy to park. We had the fried green tomatoes and the octopus apperizers... fantastic! I'm a shrimp and grits kind of girl and that was fabulous too. My hubby had the catch of the day, also great. Highly recommend this place!

Tonight my family and I thought we d try restaurant hopping to get to all the best restaurants in the time we have here. We ordered four appetizers from the Lucky Rooster and they were absolutely delicious! The chicken skins and cornbread just melts in your mouth! OMG the waffle with egg and quail is soooo gooood! I didn t even feel bad that I was eating a quail, I was too distracted by the mesmerizing taste. 10/10 would go again. :)

Awesome dinner in Hilton Head. The owner was so helpful in suggesting drinks which were tasty and inventive. Dinner was delicious: I had the shrimp with grits and my husband had the fish red snapper special. Don't miss the pork belly appetizer and the Capt'n Crunch ice cream! Yes made with Captain Crunch cereal! Fine dining at its best and also super kid friendly.

The food here is good. Everything is served a la carte. A main dish and a side was enough for me. The wine list is adequate. Pricing is expensive for the area, but far better quality/price ratio than the hotel restaurants where a lot of tourists eat. The wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. Our food got to us quick

Went to this place at around 9pm with my mom and they were all out of hamburgers and fish I ordered a plate of the roasted chicken and she ordered a plate of the fried chicken. Her chicken came back pink and she asked them to cook it longer. The manager came and said they d remake it extra well done and that how they cook their fried chicken is cooked is the reason it is pink. It was sent back and they brought a new plate and this time it even worse. My meal was fine but the fried chicken was too. pink.

We are new residences of HHI and we have found our go to place! The extensive bar menu has amazing mixed cocktails. We had the cornbread and mussels to start. Large portions and made excellent. The quality and care put into this menu is second to none. We were fortunate enough to meet the owner Clayton and understand the absolute Love thats poured into this restaurant. We will be regulars!

The food was not bad, but it wasn t anything special. The food is way overpriced for the food and the restaurant itself. I am assuming this is for two reasons, the first being a tourist trap. And the second - This restaurant uses a mix of the hipster restaurant model with a white cloth dining (which is antithetical) and seems to be their justification for the pricing. I am glad I took my family there, but this restaurant is not of a quality that will generate repeat business.

Pro: Convenient, severs are very professional.

Cons: overpriced for the quality and taste of the food. The atmosphere is okay, but very chaotic, and verges on a kids restaurant (which is both good and bad). A la carte menu drives the price up.

I'm a prof chef and this is one of the most surprisingly delightful, inventive and informative dining experiences I've had in a decade! Paul at the bar was welcoming and very knowledgeable, the attention to detail in all they do is obvious. The price point is well worth it, you won't be disappointed. Only wish I had taken pics of the menu and food I ordered. Amazing food and drinks, service and ambiance, don't miss it! Seafood tower in apps list was incredible:)

I wish I could give a review of the food. I can't. As someone in the area on business, I was staying near the Lucky Rooster and thought it might be a place I'd like to eat. Since I was tired I tried a week ago or so to call and do a take out order, and was informed-- "We only do take out between 6 and 8 pm". Okay. No problem...I'll wait. Tonight at 530 pm---I called figuring a movie, the company of my pup and a nice shrimp and grits dinner sounded heavenly. I called on my way home from work only to be told, "We don't do take out during peak season". Hmmm...well last week was July--this is August---I think they are both "peak season". I commented I had been told that between 6 and 8 was the time frame I'd been told they couldn't do take out. I was answered with the same comment about peak season. Okay----I'm guessing the Lucky Rooster isn't going to be for me---the food sounds nice absolutely, but the customer service over the phone was a bit lacking.

A don't miss place on any trip to Hilton Head Island. Our last night on the Island was topped off by this amazing culinary experience for the sense. Our server was too-notch and she helped guide us to the best choices for us. We stared off with their gin & house made tonic to accompany our BBQ Shrimp and Chowder appetizers. For dinnner, we indulged in their Shrimp & Grits and Half a Fried Chicken along with a side of Succotash. To top everything off, we shared their ice cream trio which featured a creamy Capt'n Crunch selection. Thanks for the fun and memorable experience!

The Lucky Rooster was recommended to us by friends with the admonition to make a reservation. We ate relatively early in the evening and were some of the first diners although the bar area was already quite busy. There is easy access and ample parking off William Hilton Parkway. The reservation suggestion was spot on as the dining room filled up in minutes. The ambiance was good and our server was excellent! She had great command of the details regarding the menu and drinks. My meal, a catfish and shrimp dish, was very good and came out promptly. My only complaint is that the second piece of catfish was undercooked and had a rubbery texture. Everything else was very good and I will likely return on another visit to HHI.

This is an absolute diamond. I generally do not eat at a restaurant if I am solo but the atmosphere was inviting and comfortable. This is the kind of place you could bring a date or sit and relax while having dinner and drinks. I sat at the bar since it was only myself but in no way felt like I was eating alone. The staff is engaging and enjoyable to interact with. They in turn get everyone at the bar engaged and interacting with each other as well. The drink menu didn t seem to have non alcoholic drinks but the bartender was doing such an amazing job I wanted a drink as well. He made me a non alcoholic drink per my request that hit the spot. I had the lobster tails, brussels sprouts, grits (I was curious and they looked prepared differently than I am use to seeing), and a lil taste of the blue crab. Everything I ate was seasoned and prepared beautifully. The blue crab was hands down the best crab ever! I wish there was a Lucky Rooster in Minneapolis, because I would be a regular! So glad I stopped and had dinner here. Truly impressive.

We were quite lucky: they offered outside dining in a casual and comfortable setting, the kids played along, the food was excellent, and the coffee provided us with not only great smell, but the also the taste. The menu has a lot to offer even though it is small, seafood is a clear specialty.
All staff was universally attentive, never obtrusive.
Anytime, every time. We'll come back when we're in the area!

My husband and I wanted to experience a local, non chain restaurant so we asked a local couple out on the street. They pointed us here and you did not disappoint. We chose our waitress Leslie s recommendations of the catch of the day. It was wonderful!
