Desk staff at the ER reminds me of how they were in the 70s. Apathetic. I've seen people get treated with more respect and concern at the DMV. If the taxpayers of Lubbock own this hospital, they should revolt.

Doctors are good, if you can ever manage to get an appointment. They only let you schedule appointments two days out. If there are no openings, try again the next day. repeat this process for several weeks, and maybe you'll someday get an appointment.

We came in initally through the ER then on to Surgical ICU and then on to the Geratric Care Unit. Every step of the way we have been treated with the utmost care and respect. We have been given mutipule options on our care and our concerns were listened to. All the care given in all departments was always genuine and sincere. We highly recommend UMC.

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE ELDERLY!!! ALL THEY SEE IS YOUR AGE AND THEY WILL DO AND SAY ANYTHING TO GET YOU OUT OF THE HOSPITAL ASAP. THEY ARE A BUSINESS AFTER ALL AND AND ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS COST. THEY WILL NOT LISTEN TO YOU OR YOUR FAMILY! I FEEL SORRY FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE IN THIS AREA BECAUSE EVERY BIT OF MEDICAL CARE IN THIS AREA IS BAD! IF YOU ARE ABLE TO MOVE, GET OUT OF LUBBOCK AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS AS FAST AS YOU CAN! LUBBOCK HOSPITALS ARE THE WORST!!! JUST READ THE REVIEWS AND THE NATIONAL RATINGS. MOVE TO A CITY WERE YOU CAN HAVE ACCESS TO DECENT HEALTH CARE OR BUY AIR AMBULANCE INSURANCE SO YOU CAN FLY SOMEWHERE ELSE. I COULD WRITE A BOOK ON ALL THE MALPRACTICE IN LUBBOCK.

Got to the ER at 8 last night worried I may be septic from a bacterial infection. Got checked, blood drawn, registered and have been waiting ever seen. It's now 4:30 in the morning, and we're told it would be around 7 before we are seen. By far the worst ER I have ever been in. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

The main hospital seems to be fine so far but if you ever have to be seen at the Medical Pavilion, I will pray for you. I'm currently a student, pregnant, and am on medicaid for pregnant women due to my financial situation. Not that I have to make excuses for being on medicaid but I almost feel I do because of the way I'm treated when I'm seen by doctors and nurses (mostly ignorant nurses). My insurance is limiting in that I can only be seen by my doctor at the medical pavilion, a branch of UMC. My last experience consisted of me repeatedly being told I should choose another doctor other than mine because she was "really busy" and had "a lot of patients to see." I thought to myself hmm...don't all doctors have a lot of patients to see? Perhaps if I had another type of insurance, I would get a bit more respect. Anyway, I literally had to tell these nurses that I was not switching my doctor 7 or 8 times. One of them was extremely rude and ended up telling the other nurse "fine, just give her what she wants." I thought well yes, this should have been the case all along...to give me what I want. I'm pregnant, and I do have the right to choose my doctor. Once I brought up the fact that this is my "choice" and asked her to stop trying to persuade me to switch doctors, she finally saw the light and left me alone. My husband and I are both college grads who are just going through a tough time financially. We don't deserve this, nor does anyone else. I had blue cross/blue shield before losing my insurance. I always got excellent care and was never talked down to the way I am now. My plan is to switch back to this insurance once our baby is born because our finances will be more in order by then. My heart goes out to all the women on medicaid who have to endure such mistreatment on a routine basis. A message to all doctors and nurses at UMC and The Texas Tech Medical Pavilion: just because a patient uses medicaid does not mean they are second class citizens and should not be treated as such. You don't know their situation and you have no right to judge them. This is not the last time this hospital will be hearing from me.

I gave birth to my daughter here in July and I loved the whole stay. I got to have skin to skin time right after she was born. I got to keep her in my room with me the whole time. I got to leave the next day after everything was okayed. The staff was great! The bed in our room was a queen so my husband got to sleep right beside me. There was also a couch that turned into a bed (maybe about the size of a twin bed)! I would definitely give birth here again!

The Hospital as a whole were about the patients, they cared. I understand that you will have some people having bad days, you'll have that anywhere. No those people shouldn't have acted in any disrespectful way towards a visitor(s). But a majority of the Staff Love their Jobs and treat everybody right. You also have to take into account that some of these negative stories, that you aren't getting then entire story. I'd go there without thinking twice, and would refer anyone I Love to go there. It's Just a Special place

WONDERFUL hospital, the best of care. Dr. Farooq was caring and directed me to Dr. Perez for my heart, whom I now see, and he too is excellent. The nurses were attentive and gave great care. I started at Urgent Care, and was referred to the ER. I was evaluated soon, but had to wait 4 hours until an observation room was available...However, that is because there were patients more serious than I was. Realistically, we have to expect a long wait in the ER when it is packed as it is on a continual basis as I was told. in my opinion it appears some go to the ER for minor illnesses, such as a cold, when they should go to Urgent Care. This has caused the long wait in the ER. I really value the professional doctors and nurses at UMC, could not have been better!

No one should spend 6+ hours waiting. That is absolutely absurd. When I arrived, there was only 2 others here. I understand that you all take people back based on condition, but at some point, time must be taken into consideration. The nursing staff was rude. I was ignored when I asked how many were ahead of me, and they refused to take the IV that sat in my arm for 6 hours so that I couldn't leave. For this to be a Level 1 trauma center, you all sure don't behave like it. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Worst ER ever. After a family member was in a motorcycle accident, he was flight lifted to UMC. He was there for hours, and the staff never even cleaned his wounds! He came home that evening with lacerations still full of dirt and blood from the accident he had that morning. He got very little attention from the nurses. The doctors told him he might need surgery on his ankle due to possible tendon damage, but nothing was done to actually check it. They did x-rays, and that was it. Sent him home, and really did nothing to help him. His ankle looks really bad. I don't know why they couldn't check it out better. DO NOT go to this ER. They won't do anything for you.

Worst ER experience I have ever had!!! Nurses are not helpful, they assure you the next bed that comes available. However, they forget to mention the 15 people that will go ahead of you. Just don't lie to someone who is in an ER about when they will be seen!

My daughter-in-law's mother is in the ICU completely sedated and my DIL, her only relative, is being blown off by the ICU staff who are refusing to allow her to talk to a doctor. Staff can't explain subcutaneous bleeding that developed after being in the ICU for weeks and seem uninterested in finding source. Patient was taken into non-emergent surgery without prior authorization from relative. This hospital was supposed to be better than the last one the patient was in. It's too bad the staff doesn't care about patients or family. Plus they don't bother to clean the floors--see photos for trash that's been on the floor since yesterday.

I went to the ER with abdominal pains on 5-9-16 and was basically talked out of being seen by the the lady at the desk because my wait would be 4-5hours long. I went home decided to go to a clinic the next day. I did so that morning. Come Tuesday my pain was increasing and not going away. So decided to go back to the ER. Umc did the same thing they did to me at 12am in the morning on 5-9-16 which was tell me i would have a 4-5 hour wait. The pain was unbearable, i ended up going to Covenant Hospital instead were i was seen right away because my PAIN WAS SO BAD. I ended up having a ruptured appendix. Thank God my mother in law hates UMC and decided to take me elsewhere. Who knows if i would be alive now!!! UMC NEEDS TO MAKE SOME CHANGES TO THEIR POLICIES WHEN IT COMES TO THE ER!!! I DIDNT GO THERE JUST FOR THE HELL OF IT!!!

The worst Emergency Room I have ever experienced. ...

The worst Emergency Room I have ever experienced. 5 hours of waiting, and nothing. Spectrum Health of Grand Rapids, MI has this pathetic excuse for a hospital beat by a long shot. At least at Spectrum Health, your wait was never more than 45 minutes, no matter if you had insurance or not.

I went into the ER once in November, 2015 and once in March, 2015 and was admitted to the hospital immediately. I was not in the ER longer than 5 minutes!!! Great care, excellent service, compassion, professionalism and wonderful care. While in the hospital, a week in November and 4 days in March, 2015 I had wonderful nurses and staff. When you push your button, someone gets there fairly quick. They were constantly sanitizing the room and wheelchairs, and they washed their hands in front of you while telling you that is what they were doing. EXCELLENT!!!

I went to the lab to get my blood drawn for tests ...

I went to the lab to get my blood drawn for tests as my doctor's lab had already closed for the day. The 'lab' was disgusting. There was no a/c or fans, there were construction tarps and dust everywhere, the walls were just sheets of particle board, there were gloves and wrappers on the floor, and the chairs had a mysterious pink liquid on them. I took my papers to a room as directed, but nobody acknowledged me. So I asked who I should give the papers to, and without eye contact or one word, a girl took them. I didn't know what to do, so I sat in the hallway in the only chair that was clean. My name was called fairly quickly and the same girl took my blood. My vein started to collapse and blood wasn't flowing, so instead of finding a new spot, she jiggled and wiggled the needle under my skin. I told her it hurt, and the pain was so bad I started to get dizzy and sweaty and nauseous. She pulled it out and gave me an ice pack and a trash can. Another lady gave me a cup of water after my face paled. I felt better after a few minutes and luckily a guy came in to finish. He was very nice, asked if I was okay, and we shared small talk which helped distract me. He went in, got the blood, and got out no problem. I wish he had come in earlier because now I have a painful purple bruise across my arm and a heightened fear of needles.
