Lived there for 2 years as a student, it's a very good price for the quality given. Internet is good, food is fine, and the rooms are very modern ! I felt at home. Of course sharing kitchen, showers and toilets can lead to a few surprises, but I would still recommend ! Also, the social life at Carr Saunders is one of the best in LSE Halls, if not the number one...
Nice clean rooms. Great location. Bit noisy with windows open but you are in central London. Great breakfast but be prepared to queue for it. Pretty much unbeatable for the price.
Really enjoyed my experience staying here, its comfortable and is in a very convenient area for getting around. It was really nice having a kitchen with a fridge so I could save a little money by cooking and storing my own food. The breakfast is great, they actually have a nice selection of options especially compared to other places I've stayed at. I also enjoyed talking with the other guests. Very relaxed vibe here. Amazing value all around, this will be my spot to stay at from now on whenever I'm in London
We stayed in a small but nice room. Very good student dormitories with shared bathroom and toilets, had a little walk to get to them. There was a kitchen right outside our room and a very good buffet breakfast. Good security cards to open the doors and laundry room with card or app payment. Excellent location, walking distance to Oxford Street and train station. Staff were helpful and reception friendly. We had a short but pleasant stay.
The only difference between LSE Carr-Saunders and a prison is that you can leave at free will! Actually I'm not even sure about that. I flinched for a moment in the morning when I accidently dropped my soap in the shower and the heavily closing room doors feel as if the jailer would lock you in. The entrance with double locking doors and a grimly doorkeeper behind safety glass complete the picture. At night I had bad dream about guards clacking tonfas on bars and my girlfriend woke me up, she wondered why I wanted to talk to my lawyer.
I advice not to go there in the first place if you can afford anything else. Please!
If you look at the pictures below you should imagine fully tattooed guys waiting in lines to better sense the Carr-Saunders atmosphere.
I stayed there in September, 2019. The room was what we expected (great!), the shared bathroom was clean and the breakfast was delicious! But the best of the place was the staff. I can't remember his name but the man who worked at the reception at night shift was the nicest person I have met in London. Also the ubication is great and there are several Santander cycles stations near.
We'd considered our stay in LSE Carr-Saunders as overall pleasant if you disregard the unbearable heat in the room due to scorching temperatures in London at the time and the inability to open the window wide. But then something unthinkable happened that made us feel disgruntled and altogether disappointed with the place.
The place has communal bathrooms, which would be fine if not for the fact that my friend got FILMED IN THE SHOWER on our last evening there. No CCTV in the corridors meant it was extremely hard to find the sleazy piece of garbage who'd been in the bathroom at the time and done it, but we feel the reaction of the manager was still far from adequate. First, she addressed us in an incredibly unpleasant way, making us feel like we where actually accused of making the whole incident up (for nothing like that had ever happened there before!) Then, when she finally saw how shaken my friend was and called the police, during the interrogation she made it abundantly clear she had no intention of informing the guests of Carr-Saunders that there was a creep among them and women ought to beware when they go in the shower (how considerate - she didn't want to worry them!).
The whole thing ended the morning after with me recognising the guy, having no proof and no-one to report to (the manager was not there)... by the time she showed up and I informed her who the guy was, he had checked out. Much to the lady's badly concealed relief and our dismay.
They will, of course, say they did all that was possible to help solve the predicament, but they didn't.
We are grateful to the genuinely sympathetic Mr receptionist, but...
Do I recommend the place? Not in a million years! I would not return even if they paid me.
Excellent basic accommodation, no frills or fancies, clean and comfortable. I did not like having a shared sex bathroom. Wonderful breakfast!
A good and cheap hotel. It's got a great location near two train stations and several bus lines. The shared showers are clean an modern but could do with larger hooks. Rooms are adequate. Bed is not comfortable. The provide towels.
