Excellent place. Classic and a MUST in the city of Hollywood. You have everything! CDs, cassettes, vinyl, DVD, etc. What you do not find in other places you can find in Amoeba
Truly one of the greatest places on earth in this day in age, if you're a music Junky its a required go to for any genre of music, vinyl, cassette, CD...Hope it stays open forever!
It's hard to find a place like that loaded with the great culture of LA, the city of angels. Go in there and check out their vinyls, stop by to check out some discount DVDs and old CDs you haven't seen in a while for cheap or that new album that just came out you weren't even expecting. First time I went there my favorite band just released their new album and I got a free concert ticket for purchasing it not even knowing it just came out because of still being stuck in love with their previous release. They were playing just down the street on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show on the famous Hollywood and Highland. That's the kind of stuff this place is made of. Also check out their online YouTube videos of reviews by the best music artists and what type of golden music the best tune into here. If you're in LA you know about the Amoeba because that's where it's all at, the good stuff and the good times after getting the good stuff. Expand your experience of LA and enjoy some of the best of times shared through that little giant store. Gotta love the LA culture.
I would also have been there to sleep ... I will not say anything else. More of everything. hard not to find what you are looking for. Among cd vinyl dvd and even cassette c, you are spoiled for choice. Even though I did not find the last MXPX album in October 2018.
Great store to find a wide selection of entertainment merchandise but not the place to sell your movies and comics. They pay you unreasonably low.
Two weeks ago I got in line for the David Lynch presale and was one of the last lucky few to get a ticket to the signing. I put the ticket in my purse in a safe pocket so I wouldn't lose it. My idiot self, after having an insane two weeks, completely lost track of the ticket, though I swore I never touched it in my purse. I felt so bad as I had told my friend (an even bigger Lynch fan) that I might not be able to get an album signed for him after all. I called the manager at Amoeba and while he was very nice, said that the only way I could get in was with that ticket since the event sold out. I called every place I'd been, tore my car and apartment apart to no avail. I chalked it up to a loss and decided the day after the signing I would go back to Amoeba and see if there was any way I could at least pick up my pre-sale records. One of the store cashier's (bless her soul I can't remember her name but she had brown curly hair) went to find her supervisor Karen. I told Karen what happened, that I was an idiot, showed her my time stamp on my bank transaction, and explained I wouldn't mind taking the black records (I'd originally ordered the limited color versions) since I was already out $72 from the sale. She was so kind, and goes "let me just check something in the back." She comes out and goes "his signature got a bit messed up on this one." No joke she came out with a Twin Peaks album with David Lynch's messed up signature and I almost hit the floor. I didn't have words and I wish I could've thanked her more. I can't wait to send this record off to my friend and not feel like such a disappointment! It's actually kinda cool to me that the signature is off. So basically, my record collection is about to get a lot bigger because Amoeba records deserves all of my money! Thank you guys so much!
A permanent stop that I always have to visit when in LA, this location feels bigger than the SF/Berkeley locations.
Bigger is not always necessarily better, as you have to dig a bit more to find that gem.. But when you do, it makes the trip worth it
Huge store, plenty of options to chose from. If your looking for a vynil, Amoeba will have it.
It is amazing this place. In the second order you can find all those movies you were looking for at very convenient prices
taking over what tower records used to be. please don't go out of business. we need a place like this for musicians and music lovers who still want to hold a piece of vinyl and appreciate the quality sound of music
It is by far one of the best music stores I have visited in the United States, not only are there records, CDs and cassettes, you can also find t-shirts, key chains, movies and all kinds of accessories related to music. You will find used and new CDs and discs at great prices, there is a great variety and for all tastes. I will come back whenever I can !!!
Largest music, movie store in the world. Takes up an entire city block on Sunset Boulevard! If you can't find it here, your just not looking hard enough!
The famous recordings in the downtown area are complete, especially the old music, tapes, CDs, Blu-rays, and vinyl records! Special peripherals, on the 2nd floor, there are movies, and there are occasional live performances at night. Don't miss the music movie
Very helpful staff and all the creative content you can find inside!
They will buy or trade your music. Been in area for a long time.
Got some really cool gravity, got a lot of collections of LP, movies, cd, books
Best experience for any music lover. Absolutely beautiful with music as far as the eyes can see.
They have a wide selection of movies. I got all my favorite movies there
Disneyland for music lovers. Incredible selection of everything you can imagine music and film. Praying on the back for costumers, not a lot of spots but if you're lucky you won't need to park on the street while enjoying hours of vinyl hunting. Prices vary, but mostly are within reason, especially for California. They also sell turntables and books.
Nice to watch records...but I buy music online or listen on utube
One of the few last bastions of physical music. Mostly focused on Rock but you can find pretty much everything here. The staff knows their stuff, and are almost always down to help you find someone new to listen to. Prices are also reasonable for getting physical CD/Vinyl.
This pace was super dope! There is so much in this shop. I could spend hours in this place!!
The last time I went to AMOEBA MUSIC in California I was amazed. Las Vegas NV use to have Tower Records... Sam Goody... The Wherehouse. Now they're gone. THANK GOD FOR AMOEBA!!!!! STAY ALIVE AMOEBA... I STILL NEED YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great selection of pop culture! There is most notably an extensive selection of music of absolutely every kind. I've you've heard it they probably have it or they can somehow get it for you.
I love it here, but I was disappointed with the electric dance section, if you can call it that
Great place if looking for records oldies and oll kinds of music please mew thing in store parking under store hurry and go they are think of of closing it sorry to let this place go
There's always something new to grab my attention here. Prici is so competitive to on-line shopping when you include shipping. But when ordering on-line from here shipping is free. Have always loved Ameoba Records.
Always find what I m looking for great treasures inside
Find any kind of music in all formats, plan a good amount of time to look around the huge selection of vinyl.
THE place to go for all my needs; cd's, DVD's, vinyl, posters, gear, equipment etc.
Every time I go here, some of the staff members are incredibly rude. What a shame, I genuinely like this store. And no, I'm not the problem. I always keep to myself, but when I ask for help, I'm treated with an ugly attitude. What TOPPED IT OFF was that I recently went to a show there. I waited outside for about 5 hours, and when we were allowed in, they arranged us in the most idiotic way. They put groups of 15 in rows, and put later groups of 15 behind those. If that sounds confusing, it basically meant that people who were all the way in the back of the line got to be in front of those who were waiting for hours. So frustrating.
Worth the trip from San Diego and probably anywhere else
Great place for music. Best selection I have ever seen. New and Used, very reasonable price. I try to go every chance I get.
They don't have everything and if you sell to them prepare to be royally... hard
Amazing place if you love music and movies and they have their own parking garage which is amazing for LA
Still blows me away you can see Annie Lennox, Snoop Dog, Garbage and more for booksignings and mini sets !!
Great store with so many choices, you could spend hours looking through things. They have both great prices and expensive. Parking sucks if their lot is full.
I couldn't have enjoyed my time here more. It is one of the largest music stores I have ever stepped into. I was blown away by the sheer volume of stock. The employees were absolutely lovely. My Shazam just wouldn't download and there was a song playing I wanted to know. I asked the cashier employee what was playing and she more than happy to make a call and ask. An immense selection of music available: vinyls, CDs, casettes tapes, films and posters. If you couldn't find the record you were searching for at your local store, you will find it here. It is a haven for collectors as the store has imports and first press rarities including signed posters available.
After the calculation, I went through the check machine and received the goods. Others just received the goods immediately after the calculation. What if this is not racial discrimination? I recommend you never go
Posters, tapes, vinyl Records, VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, HD DVD any and all types of format from LaserDisc to who knows. But it has many hard to find items you just need to spend the time to gid it out. Many Treasures to find just spend the time to look for them.
One of my favorite places in LA, where real music still lives on. Every time I go I can't spend less that 100 bucks, and I leave with tons of cool music, videos, reading material and so. The place maintains the rock n roll, counterculture charm. The video section in the 1st floor reminds me some joints I used to go to in the 90s and has a large selection of rare movies (you can even buy VHS!). Cashiers are always super nice.
if you're planning to go to Amoeba music to buy a record, take the precise amount of money for that record, otherwise you'll go broke...
You can find any CD LP cassette or movies. And the employees are very friendly
it's a great media store. best in LA maybe best in the US! not kidding though I really liked that place, the atmosphere is fun and there is a huge variety of new and used and never opened CDs, LPs, vinyls, DVDs BluRay, VHS and even some beta, there is just a ton of stuff
Love this place. They have books, movies, CDs, LPs and a bunch of collectables.
This is a very unique music store. Staff is very friendly and helpful
First time there since I'm from Texas, found a lot of cool records and movies and staff was very helpful and kind despite being lost in the place
Huge location, two floors of new & used vinyl, cassettes, cd's, dvd's, and Blu-ray discs. Books and t-shirts, collectibles and hard to find or out of print media. Love this store! They are moving to a smaller location soon so visit their website, or better yet, be awed by the experience of shopping there.
Part swap meet, part old school record shop, all Amoeba.
Great selection. Love the metal section, but so badly things are insanely over priced
Visited Hollywood a few months back and this record store was definitely one of the spots to check off of my bucket list. I hope they get to keep this location. I'll definitely make another trip here again on my next visit if I can!
Any music or movie lover could spend an eternity roaming Amoeba
Gives almost everything you are looking for ... and much more
