It's hard to find a place like that loaded with the great culture of LA, the city of angels. Go in there and check out their vinyls, stop by to check out some discount DVDs and old CDs you haven't seen in a while for cheap or that new album that just came out you weren't even expecting. First time I went there my favorite band just released their new album and I got a free concert ticket for purchasing it not even knowing it just came out because of still being stuck in love with their previous release. They were playing just down the street on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show on the famous Hollywood and Highland. That's the kind of stuff this place is made of. Also check out their online YouTube videos of reviews by the best music artists and what type of golden music the best tune into here. If you're in LA you know about the Amoeba because that's where it's all at, the good stuff and the good times after getting the good stuff. Expand your experience of LA and enjoy some of the best of times shared through that little giant store. Gotta love the LA culture.

I would also have been there to sleep ... I will not say anything else. More of everything. hard not to find what you are looking for. Among cd vinyl dvd and even cassette c, you are spoiled for choice. Even though I did not find the last MXPX album in October 2018.

Two weeks ago I got in line for the David Lynch presale and was one of the last lucky few to get a ticket to the signing. I put the ticket in my purse in a safe pocket so I wouldn't lose it. My idiot self, after having an insane two weeks, completely lost track of the ticket, though I swore I never touched it in my purse. I felt so bad as I had told my friend (an even bigger Lynch fan) that I might not be able to get an album signed for him after all. I called the manager at Amoeba and while he was very nice, said that the only way I could get in was with that ticket since the event sold out. I called every place I'd been, tore my car and apartment apart to no avail. I chalked it up to a loss and decided the day after the signing I would go back to Amoeba and see if there was any way I could at least pick up my pre-sale records. One of the store cashier's (bless her soul I can't remember her name but she had brown curly hair) went to find her supervisor Karen. I told Karen what happened, that I was an idiot, showed her my time stamp on my bank transaction, and explained I wouldn't mind taking the black records (I'd originally ordered the limited color versions) since I was already out $72 from the sale. She was so kind, and goes "let me just check something in the back." She comes out and goes "his signature got a bit messed up on this one." No joke she came out with a Twin Peaks album with David Lynch's messed up signature and I almost hit the floor. I didn't have words and I wish I could've thanked her more. I can't wait to send this record off to my friend and not feel like such a disappointment! It's actually kinda cool to me that the signature is off. So basically, my record collection is about to get a lot bigger because Amoeba records deserves all of my money! Thank you guys so much!

A permanent stop that I always have to visit when in LA, this location feels bigger than the SF/Berkeley locations.

Bigger is not always necessarily better, as you have to dig a bit more to find that gem.. But when you do, it makes the trip worth it

It is by far one of the best music stores I have visited in the United States, not only are there records, CDs and cassettes, you can also find t-shirts, key chains, movies and all kinds of accessories related to music. You will find used and new CDs and discs at great prices, there is a great variety and for all tastes. I will come back whenever I can !!!

The famous recordings in the downtown area are complete, especially the old music, tapes, CDs, Blu-rays, and vinyl records! Special peripherals, on the 2nd floor, there are movies, and there are occasional live performances at night. Don't miss the music movie

Disneyland for music lovers. Incredible selection of everything you can imagine music and film. Praying on the back for costumers, not a lot of spots but if you're lucky you won't need to park on the street while enjoying hours of vinyl hunting. Prices vary, but mostly are within reason, especially for California. They also sell turntables and books.

One of the few last bastions of physical music. Mostly focused on Rock but you can find pretty much everything here. The staff knows their stuff, and are almost always down to help you find someone new to listen to. Prices are also reasonable for getting physical CD/Vinyl.

There's always something new to grab my attention here. Prici is so competitive to on-line shopping when you include shipping. But when ordering on-line from here shipping is free. Have always loved Ameoba Records.

Every time I go here, some of the staff members are incredibly rude. What a shame, I genuinely like this store. And no, I'm not the problem. I always keep to myself, but when I ask for help, I'm treated with an ugly attitude. What TOPPED IT OFF was that I recently went to a show there. I waited outside for about 5 hours, and when we were allowed in, they arranged us in the most idiotic way. They put groups of 15 in rows, and put later groups of 15 behind those. If that sounds confusing, it basically meant that people who were all the way in the back of the line got to be in front of those who were waiting for hours. So frustrating.

I couldn't have enjoyed my time here more. It is one of the largest music stores I have ever stepped into. I was blown away by the sheer volume of stock. The employees were absolutely lovely. My Shazam just wouldn't download and there was a song playing I wanted to know. I asked the cashier employee what was playing and she more than happy to make a call and ask. An immense selection of music available: vinyls, CDs, casettes tapes, films and posters. If you couldn't find the record you were searching for at your local store, you will find it here. It is a haven for collectors as the store has imports and first press rarities including signed posters available.

After the calculation, I went through the check machine and received the goods. Others just received the goods immediately after the calculation. What if this is not racial discrimination? I recommend you never go

Posters, tapes, vinyl Records, VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, HD DVD any and all types of format from LaserDisc to who knows. But it has many hard to find items you just need to spend the time to gid it out. Many Treasures to find just spend the time to look for them.

One of my favorite places in LA, where real music still lives on. Every time I go I can't spend less that 100 bucks, and I leave with tons of cool music, videos, reading material and so. The place maintains the rock n roll, counterculture charm. The video section in the 1st floor reminds me some joints I used to go to in the 90s and has a large selection of rare movies (you can even buy VHS!). Cashiers are always super nice.

Huge location, two floors of new & used vinyl, cassettes, cd's, dvd's, and Blu-ray discs. Books and t-shirts, collectibles and hard to find or out of print media. Love this store! They are moving to a smaller location soon so visit their website, or better yet, be awed by the experience of shopping there.
Part swap meet, part old school record shop, all Amoeba.

Visited Hollywood a few months back and this record store was definitely one of the spots to check off of my bucket list. I hope they get to keep this location. I'll definitely make another trip here again on my next visit if I can!
