The History of Lava Cap Winery

Lava Cap Winery was founded in 1981 by David Jones and his wife Jeanne who were inspired by the beauty of El Dorado County’s Sierra Foothills region. The couple had always been passionate about wine-making but it wasn't until they discovered this beautiful location that they decided it was time for them start making wine professionally.

David Jones had previously worked as an engineer at Hewlett-Packard while Jeanne was an elementary school teacher before they decided on starting up this venture together as partners in life as well as business partners.

Initially starting out small with just five acres under vineyard cultivation which included Chardonnay grapes along with some Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted on site too; today there are over 130 acres under cultivation at Lava cap wineries which includes several different grape varieties such as Syrah Noir (Shiraz), Zinfandel Noir (Primitivo), Merlot Noir (Merlot) among others.
