Went for dinner on the patio. Nice to be able to take our dogs. All the games are a nice touch. Umbrellas need to tilt for late afternoon sun. Cumbersome drink ordering. My husband went in to order (We had the dogs. It would have been the same if we had children). Then I had to go in to prove that he wasn't trying to order 2 drinks for himself. Very odd. The French dip and the braised beef sliders were tasty. The house fries were not identified as spicy any where on the menu. They were practically inedible. The waitress brought us normal fries. I would say that the games are nice, but more could be done to be customer-centric about the rest of the dining experience.
The food at The Lauber was great! My mom and I visited on a Friday night and we did have to wait a while (about 30 minutes) but you can put your name in and grab a drink while you wait. Amazing good, excellent servers, and a really great beer menu. Lots of vegetarian options, too!
Love the Lauber. Saturday night there kitchen wasn't on. Shared the prime melt tasty but not hot and cold fries. Suggest the tin pie plates could be warned before serving the food. Otherwise, great servers and service. Will return soon.
Was seated in center of restaurant, no waitstaff even said "hi" waited ten minutes and left
I honestly had the best meal here i had the east bank chicken sandwich and man was it amazing all the food was i know ill be coming back for the pizza and to try more
My wife and I decided to try out the Lauber and we were really delighted. We ate at the bar and had good service. The cocktails were really well made, there is a great selection of beer, and both our appetizer and entree s were delicious. We will be back!
The place is deliciously legit!
I'm coming back!
Great atmosphere. Pizza was amazing. 29 beers on tap with quite a few fun local micro brews in the mix.
Love their food. But it is very loud and noisy. Hard to have a conversation with the people at your table.
Nice place. Outdoor seating.
Our server, Angel, was excellent!
Came last night and was so excited to see this cool new place in DTSB. The outside patios are dog friendly and have fun looking games. Big plus!
We decided to eat inside in the bar area. It felt like we were in the way of the wait staff. They milled around not looking very busy. Our server was interrupted at least twice while talking to us by another server. In my opinion it should have waited till she was done with us. Also I m pretty sure our server was stoned.
They have a great variety of beers but you can t order beer flights? And we were charged $0.10 for a taste of beer. It comes in a smaller than a shot glass thimble sized taste. Really?
We ordered cocktails instead and had to wait Way too long for our drinks. The drinks were tasty, but again, the wait was way too long.
I was trying to keep an open mind but at this point my expectations were starting to head south. The menu is really inviting . I had a hard time deciding what i wanted. We ordered the hummus tray and a sandwich to split. Asked for them to come out at the same time but the appetizers came out first. The carrot sticks and celery were a joke. It looked like match sticks. These are the least expensive things to serve guests so don t be so skimpy! Also the bread was over fried, the cashew hummus was way too thick, and the olive tapenade was over processed.
When we got the sandwich it looked great... except the fries looked like they had been re fried at least three times and were so salty we couldn t eat them.
I came online to see if this was an off night or if others were having similar experiences... we will give it one more shot because I really want this place to be successful. It has all the pieces, it just needs to pull it together.
In my opinion, The staff needs to be more focused on quick service and the food that comes out of the kitchen needs to be as appealing as what is on the menu.
The Lauber does an excellent job of making folks feel super comfortable with inside service. Tables were appropriately distanced and servers wore masks. I felt comfortable and safe.
I had the Mac & Cheese Grilled Cheese with Smoked Brisket.....uhhhh aaahhhmazing!! Paired it with the Goose Island Christmas IPA. Perfection For dessert we had the Cookie Pizza..... Do yourself a favor and get it, share it, and have zero regrets!
A friend had been telling me about The Lauber for months but I was finally able to make it in there at Christmas.....don t wait as long as I did! Seriously. Don t.
I got Lauber Love now
First time experience at the lauber was not what I expected. The host and manager were exceptionally rude when we did not know where to go. I thought the food was great but will probably not come back again.
Very tasty pizza, the hand-tossed crust is delicious. Good atmosphere with lots of seating availability outside, too! We will definitely be coming back.
Great experience all around!!! Food was delicious! Service was excellent!!! Very clean!!!
I love this place! 2 separate outdoor areas to choose from, back and side. The back is quieter from traffic, but has more tables than the side does. Very clean, with attentive waitstaff, and a good selection of beer and drinks. The pizza was very good and unique. I recommend trying here!
Nice space, sandwiches ok could be improved by grilling the bread.( Prime and the Mac and cheese ) could add a slice of cheese to the Mac and cheese sandwich to help hold it together. Interesting take on artisan pizza they sound great. Cole Slaw was vinegar based and just ok. No seasonal soup when I was there, the chicken and dumplings soup was decent enough but the dumplings were not home-made overall opinion good for a drink and a sandwich or artisan pizza
Good pizza. Good service. Great decor. My cup had lipstick on the edge, so we checked all other dishes as we got them!
My hubby and I were really happy with our meals and service! We got the beef sliders for an app, the Lauber burger, and the chicken sandwich. We had never had a tomato pie, and it was so tasty! Ordered my chicken sandwich with a side salad and everything tasted so fresh. We'll definitely be back to try more food and drinks.
Awesome place for food and beverages! Their Tequila Lime Pizza is fabulous!!
Love the atmosphere. Should have sat outside. It was a gorgeous evening!
First timer and will probably go again good beer on tap and the sandwich and fries were satisfactory
Great atmosphere, food and drinks. Service staff was excellent.
Today was the first time I have eaten here. Even through this pandemic the customer service was amazing. The employees all wore masks. They did a great job cleaning the place. I had the Lauber Burger and it was delicious, I would highly recommend getting this burger! Overall my experience was great!
Great Green Goat Pizza! Relaxing atmosphere for a beer.
It could be good, but they are in no way ready for opening.
Let me say, that I was pretty excited for the opening, but am extremely disappointed after visiting for lunch today. My son and I arrived around 11:10 and were once of the first few tables seated. We ordered the Cajun Corn dogs and a pizza. Our waiter informed us that he would put the corn dogs in first and put a hold on the pizza so that we could eat our appetizer first. More than 30 minutes passed and no corn dogs. Another 10 minutes passed and we were told that there was a problem with the batter and that they could not make anything that was presentable. I was offered something else from the menu but politely declined.
After we ate our pizza, which was pretty good, but 40 minutes for a thin crust pizza in a restaurant that is not very crowded is a bit long, the waiter convinced us to order some desert -- A Chocolate Chip Cookie Pizza. Big mistake, after 20 minutes of waiting I gave up.
Only 1 of 3 items ordered were presented to my son and I for consumption. After 1 hour and 30 minutes we ate one 12 inch pizza and were presented with our bill with no accommodation for the inconvenience.
They probably should have held off on the opening.
Great atmosphere. Pizza is outstanding! Service is ok. They have a few weird options for pizza....citrus taste that was absolutely disgusting. Drinks were great. Try a couple dishes and your find what you like.
Excellent food and service at reasonable prices. We'll be back!
I had the kale salad with quinoa Patty and sweet potato. This part was wonderful. I made the mistake of adding chicken, which was dry and overcooked. Beers were great.
Fantastic draft list, over 20 craft beers. Pizza is tasty and reasonably priced. For only being opened a few days they have their stuff together quite well! Will be regularly coming to the lauber!
Cool atmosphere, good cocktail and draft selections. Pizza was well made and the ingredients were fresh. My friends got sandwiches and they enjoyed those as well. JD was a very attentive server.
Good device, good food, will be back. Love the looks of the place. Neat.
Great beer selection on tap and in bottles and cans. Food is great. Atmosphere is lively but still relaxed enough to have a conversation with the party you are with. The menu offers a little bit of everything. Enjoyed a pizza, it was fantastic. Not a negative thing to say about this place. Give The Lauber a try.
Will not be back. Seems to be a great clean place, but saw the cook drop his tongs on the ground, pick them up, and continue to use them. I asked the manager to talk with him about the situation, and the manager got very agressive in defending his cook's decision. VERY GROSS.
Atmosphere, food & beverage selections, and service are terrific. Keep up the good work.
Good food. Nice outside space. Drinks taste good. Good decor and atmosphere. Nice service.
I've been here a few times now and I'm a little underwhelmed. The first night I was there, it was blazing hot and they told us the AC didn't work yet. That seemed odd to me. Last night I was in and the service was miserable. The server messed up orders, didn't refill waters forever (while we were sitting directly in the sun inside), and took well over 10 minutes to bring a beer over. This place has a lot of potential, so I hope they get their act together.
Superb vegan salad! Great flavors! Quality ingredients. Can't comment too much on the atmosphere being as it is with COVID 19 protocol. Professional and sanitary in any case.
They're easily the best place to go for brunch in South Bend. A pretty good place overall with an outdoor patio. The food is good, but not great. I understand their sangria is very good, but I wouldn't know because they always seem to be out of it when I go.
The service was great! The short manager sucks... he wouldn t let my friend order chicken tenders and repeatedly refused to accommodate the request. Come here for the beef, don t come here for the chicken tenders...
My parents had been raving about The Lauber for a while before COVID hit. With a large outdoor patio, they told me it would be great for when summer finally arrived in South Bend. Now, with outdoor dining being the preference, The Lauber is a great option for your sunny day dining.
Right now, their entire menu is online. They offer sandwiches and salads, but what really stands out is their artisan pizza. I ordered the Butcher Town (read as meat lovers). They use fresh Italian sausage, but what really puts it over the top is the honey oil drizzle. My girlfriend got the Green Goat without the peppadew because she finds all peppers to be a little too spicy. Regardless, she loved it and was amazed at how well avocado goes on pizza.
As far as drinks go, they have a great selection of beer, wine, and liquors. I had the Endless Color, which is a nice wheat beer. My girlfriend ordered the Triple Jam, which is now her new favorite cider. There are also plenty of non-alcoholic options available.
On the weekends, they offer brunch from 11-2. With special menu items and drinks, it is something I will likely check out in the future. In particular, they have a seasonally flavored cinnamon roll.
Delicious, friendly, fantastic space.
The Lauber has only been around a short time, and this was our first time here. I'll be coming back soon because this is one of those frustratingly good places where amateur cooks like me feel both inspired and satisfied.
It's weird to say "perfectly spiced" as a part of why I liked a place, but I couldn't find another way to explain the food. Flavorful and bold without being not heavy-handed from start to finish.
Pre-dinner cocktail was You Autumn Know - bourbon cocktail with spices and honey
Dippity Dough Da with spinach sausage dip
The Philly pizza - special of the day with prime rib, onions, green peppers, spinach sausage sauce
Nice , new place trying to more upscale than they are...its a bar . Poor parking arrangements
Came here for lunch while in town on business so unable to take advantage of the bar. I ordered the sliders, my friend got the soup which she said was delicious, we shared some fries which had a spicy powder on them. The sliders were good and the dipping gravy was very good. My other friend tried the Grilled Mac n Cheese Sandwich which was just Mac and cheese on toast. Not impressed with that. The service was good and we were able to get in and out in under 45 minutes.
Love how an the building has been repurposed while maintaining it s historical significance. The atmosphere was busy and fun. Lots of seating outside with outdoor games. Food was very tasty and fresh. Wait staff was wonderful.
Really liked the atmosphere & the drinks & food were great! I had the prime rib sandwich & it was one of the best I've had. The service was slightly slow, but it is the holidays. Will be back
Drinks: Good beer selection, but priced too high.
Food: I really wanted to like the pizza, but it was a 6/10 or lower if I m being honest with myself. Appetizers we tried were good, but way overpriced. Cauliflower app was $14.
Service: The hosts didn t quite have a handle on things but it wasn t too bad. Our server was fantastic. Friendly, helpful, attentive. The checkout process was tedious. Some new system that essentially forces you to take a survey. Not a fan.
Location: Not much parking available.
Decor/feel: Nicely done. Neat/clean, somewhat minimal. The beer garden needs a lot of work. Sparse. Large concrete slab with
6-8 cheap plastic picnic tables. No umbrellas.
Overall: A lot of kinks to work out. Regarding pricing(including prices on the menu matching the final bill price), organization, training, and ingredients. I remain hopeful and will likely try again at some point but I m in no rush to get back there.
Really nice atmosphere and decent food. Great beer spirit selection!
I ordered the weeks special which was beef brisket mac-n-cheese which was decent, though I could have done without the barbecue sauce drizzled over everything. The sweetness of the bbq sauce was clashing with the rich tangy cheddar cheese of the mac sauce. Also, the portions were all over the place between the three meals my party got. The other food was excellent.
This was our first time here and we will definitely be back! Loved everything about this place from the decor to the drinks and dinner. My husband and I split a pizza and the prime melt and they were absolutely delicious!
great place for dinner and drinks, has a nice outdoor area and food is good
We had a great experience. Yes, they are busy BUT they are new and everyone wants to try the new places. Honestly, the wait was nothing compared to other new places we have tried. The prices are reasonable for the food they have- you wont find the food or drinks (if I m being honest) anywhere else. I must say the hummus board for the appetizer we had was the best we ever had, and we always try the hummus because we like it. At least try the place. Its either for you or its not..... but for us, it is.
Love the showcasing of the old fashion mfg. business, very cool design idea! Enjoyed the outdoor eating area. Great location. The waiter was super cool, had a great personality. The food was really good, full bar and unique beer selection. The prices were pretty reasonable for an downtown upscale restaurant, unless you plan on hitting the bar hard . Would definitely recommend it.
Poor service. Nachos were terrible. Both salads were mediocre.
Pretty sad the sangria is brunch only but the grilled cheese I had was very good and the cocktail was great. Excited to go back for brunch!
Great casual atmosphere, excellent food, social distancing and mask guidelines are followed. Diverse beer list with lots of options.
Like the way it was renovated. Kept the atmosphere clean and comfortable. Outside areas also. Food was great and large selection of craft beer.
Um YES!!! So good! Plenty of vegan options, unique menu selection - something for everyone! Great service and atmosphere! The is a must go in South Bend.
1st time here and we are so impressed! The Tin Can Nachos were wonderful! Mac and cheese creamy, chicken with rigatoni in mushroom sauce, yum! Service was excellent. Definitely our new favorite place! Good prices! Awesome ambiance.. I could go on and on! Come checknit out!
GREAT addition to the East Bank's revitalized night life. Awesome food, drinks, and staff
Great beer selection, good burger. Fries were a bit too salty for my taste. Place was LOUD! Cement floors and hard ceiling don't absorb much. Could use rugs, or other sound absorbent materials. Service was good, although I could have used more water with the fries. Would totally recommend and will go again.
Decent place. Very loud inside. Completely out of pizza crusts tonight. Probably be better after they have worked through the kinks.
Disappointed. The food was inedible. My husband had the prime melt which tasted of old, tough, flavorless meat with a flavorless sauce. The Mac n cheese grilled cheese with brisket I ordered had amazing brisket but the pasta was not cooked properly and was hard and chewy. I also ordered a side salad which I could ve made better at home with some simple seasonings and a olive oil dressing. Won t be coming back.
Had a great time here. The drinks were great and we had the opportunity to try several of them. The atmosphere was very relaxed and great for a summer night. They were also doing a very good job social distancing tables and making efforts to keep people safe. Every staff member was wearing a mask and they asked one customer to respect people social distancing while we were there which we really appreciate.
Food was delicious!! Great "adult drink" choices. Definitely going back.... again!! :)
Phenomenal pizza! Butcher Town is my personal favorite and the tin can nachos are a must for your first visit. The outdoor patio is perfect late night in the summer to bring the dog, and play some yard games.
Really enjoyed our dinner here tonight. Food was excellent and a great selection of craft beer. Can't wait to check out their patio when the warmer weather finally arrives. Definitely a stand out in SB.
They were able to accomdate for my party of 15 at short notice. Unique pizza options, great variety of beers and cocktails.
Great addition to downtown for beer, cocktails, salads. The pizzas are OK. This is not Venturi style Neapolitan pizza, but Barnaby style Midwestern pizza. Also, the place is VERY loud. It's much better to sit outside in the little courtyard. The games courtyard is nice too, especially if you're there with kids.
