Laser Shock Peening (LSP) uses high-energy laser pulses directed onto metallic surfaces creating shock waves which induce compressive residual stresses on them. LSP improves resistance against crack initiation by up 20 times compared with untreated surfaces.

Ultrasonic Impact Treatment (UIT) uses high-frequency mechanical vibrations applied through an impact tool onto metallic surfaces creating compressive residual stresses on them while reducing tensile ones below it. UIT improves resistance against crack initiation by up 5 times compared with untreated surfaces.

Shot peening involves blasting small spherical media onto metallic surfaces creating plastic deformation which induces compressive residual stresses on them while reducing tensile ones below it; this process also increases material hardness improving wear resistance significantly.

Cryogenic treatment involves cooling down materials at very low temperatures (-196°C/-320°F). This process modifies their microstructure increasing their strength significantly; this treatment also reduces brittleness making materials more resistant against cracking under cyclic loading conditions like those found in engines or turbines blades subjected to thermal cycling during operation cycles.
