This is a state-run residential care facility for the developmentally disabled that has been around for over 100 years. This is an important place that provides care and training for some of the most vunerable members of the community that may not have other options available. With a well-trained, caring medical and direct care staff, from doctors, dentists, nurses, occupational and physical therapists and psychology associates to recreation and educational specialists, Lakeland ensures that each resident's specialized needs are met. Truly, this facility is a much needed entity that should continue on well into the future.

My sister has been a resident at Lakeland since 1957. I cannot say enough good things about how wonderful the people who care for Debbie are. It is always tragic to have to place a family member, but to know they are cared for lovingly and carefully is priceless.

I have visited Lakeland Village Residential Habilitation Center near Spokane Washington when I worked as a Troubleshooter advocate researching a transfer request for a married couple with developmental disabilities about 1990. Relocating to the Spokane Washington area in 1998, I've attended two open houses, enjoying the visits, meeting with residents and families and employees. I think some people with developmental disabilities have very special needs requiring Residential Habilitation Centers (RHC), consultations, and respite stays. People with congenital conditions or problems at birth sometimes need the specialty care provided by State habilitation centers. I thank the elected officials in Eastern Washington who have visited Lakeland Village and who support those residents and their families who want their loved ones to continue to live at Lakeland Village. I grieve for those fragile residents transferred from Interlake RHC, who died shortly after the facility was closed.
