Having read the reviews it is clear that most of them aren't actually about the shop but about Laithwaites the company. What the shop gives you is excellent service, recommendations and a loyalty bonus. What it doesn't give you are mass produced supermarket wines, if they are your cup ot tea then use a supermarket, I recommend you the Co-op ,whose buyers actually know what they are doing. Laithwaites gives you wine varieties you won't find in a supermarket, regional varities again only found in specialist dealers and wine crafted by producers with generations of experience. I use it, love it and recommend it. It isn't cheap but then again the wine isn't produced by the tanker load.
Very cheap wines (12,5/13%) sold very expensively!!!
They usually trick you with 50% off vouchers.
If you can get a rare good offer it's great - you'll get labels you won't find in supermarkets, and some wines are excellent. But i rate them only average because regular prices are now far too pricey, offers too rare, some wine tastes nothing special, service has gone from good to hit-and-miss, deliveries not a speedy as they used to be, you get bombard with mail and phone calls even if you unsubscribe, and one serious word of advice: NEVER Ever give them your bank details or pay by direct debit. otherwise they take money without consent, it happened to my brother - and quite a few others if you read the reviews! shocking. I send them a cheque :)
Laithwaite has the slowest release and the poorest customer service among UK wine merchants. If you need wines quickly, don t buy from them.
I have been buying cases of wine at the Laithwaites Theale shop for many years and would ordinarily give them at least 4 stars. However, the customer service today was very disappointing. Probably only worth 2 stars. I left feeling that I should buy more wine in the supermarket, not because the quality of the wine isn t good (although it is rather overpriced...) but because of the attitude of the person who served me. Not a pleasant experience today despite being happy to be back in store after lockdown. I think Laithwaites need to review their customer service training. Why alienate a regular customer?!
Excellent service - wine tasting for a wedding. Really helpful suggestions to match the menu and lots of samples to try!
As we live locally this is a great place to get wines that the local supermarkets don't stock. Lots of independent producers being backed by Laithwaites and at a reasonable price. A decent fine wine section and good advice from the staff.
Reading through the reviews I realise this is obviously their company policy. I cancelled my membership 2 months ago after the initial case. I have always refused any company from holding onto my credit card details. However, yesterday I More
