L’Ecole No 41: A Family-Owned Artisan Winery in Walla Walla Valley
L’Ecole No 41 is a family-owned artisan winery located in the heart of Walla Walla Valley, Washington. The winery was founded by Jean and Baker Ferguson in 1983, and it has been passed down to their children, Marty Clubb and Megan Clubb Sullivan. Today, L’Ecole No 41 is run by the third generation of the family.
The winery is named after the French term for “the school,” which refers to its location in the historic Frenchtown School building. The school was built in 1915 and served as a community center until it was converted into a winery in 1983. The building’s unique architecture and history are reflected on L’Ecole No 41’s label.
L’Ecole No 41 produces premium wines that reflect the unique terroir of Walla Walla Valley. The valley’s climate, soil, and topography create ideal conditions for growing grapes that produce complex and flavorful wines. L’Ecole No 41 sources its grapes from some of the best vineyards in Washington State.
The winery produces a wide range of varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Semillon, Grenache Blanc, Chenin Blanc among others. Each wine is crafted with care using traditional techniques such as hand harvesting and barrel aging to ensure that every bottle reflects the quality that has become synonymous with L'Ecole no 41.
One of L'Ecole no's most popular wines is their Estate Perigee Seven Hills Vineyard Red Wine Blend which has won numerous awards over time including being named one of Wine Spectator's Top Wines Of The Year multiple times.
In addition to producing exceptional wines year after year since its inception over three decades ago; L'Ecole no also prides itself on being environmentally conscious through sustainable farming practices like using cover crops between rows or planting native plants around vineyards to attract beneficial insects like bees or ladybugs which help control pests naturally without harmful chemicals.
Visitors can experience all this firsthand at their tasting room located at Frenchtown Schoolhouse where they can sample some of these award-winning wines while enjoying stunning views overlooking rolling hills covered with grapevines stretching out as far as one can see!
In conclusion; if you're looking for an authentic wine experience from a family-owned artisanal winery then look no further than L'Ecole no! Their commitment to quality coupled with sustainable farming practices make them stand out among other producers not just within Washington State but across America too!
