Kyrene school district Review

They had food give away the day I was there. I wasn't there for that. But it's nice that do that.

Reading teacher Mr Coca called my son a dumb ass yesterday and I don't think the school takes this seriously. Met with the principle today who stated she will "speak" to him so I have taken matters further and will be filing a complaint with the District as he should not be teaching my child or anyone else as he obviously doesn't like his job HE chose. And I firmly believe if he has called my child a dumb ass in front of the entire class he has done it before and will continue to mentally and emotionally hurt children he is suppose to be educating and encouraging. Not a happy parent right now and he is so out of line.

KMS administration is TERRIBLE, they allowed my daughter to be bullied and slandered with no consequences to bullies.

Superintendent Vesely wasn't much better. Took a one sided summary from school administrators only which was grossly manipulated to protect themselves.

Disgraceful leadership but teachers do their best.

I went to a school in the kyrene school district for three years, I was on the receiving end of bullying and to some people's beliefs I was on the distributing end as well. This school has a no tolerance policy so you cannot make edgy jokes or things like that, which is fine. However if you are caught doing so you may be permanently removed from the school, which would be fine if you where exempt from your work. I was given very little knowledge on my situation so I just had to figure things out myself. Everyday I wake up at twelve, check my email to see if my teachers sent me anything, usually they haven't so I'll have to ask them, then I'll do any left over work. Some of my teachers refuse to grade the things I've sent them for whatever reason. Most negative ratings here appear to be saying the same thing "The staff is terrible!" or "My teachers are bad!". This problem I have is purely the staff's fault of lack of communication to people with problematic situations, this district has underwhelming consequences to prevent bullying and vaping, this district's students are in agreement that our school system is in need of correction, send your children to a private school where the staff and teachers are motivated to do their jobs.

It's the best district and I hope they reopen this next year with the expectations that kids wash their hands more so they can all go back without nonsense. If they don't, we won't go back. Kids need school and they need it with other kids. They don't do this for the flu so why start now

Mediocre district at best. The administration is incredibly left leaning liberal. They pat themselves on the back and congratulate each other for a job well done. Their is no real learning going on here, its all a facade. I agree with other reviewers in regard to a willingness to lie, whether in actuality or by omission. Their facebook posts are scrubbed clean of anything that goes against their rah rah rah message of nonsense and self congratulatory musings.

Obviously, everyone has different experiences with a school depending on the student and the Teachers (as well as the rest of the staff), but I feel that sending our daughter to Akimel A-al was the best decision we have ever made! We had a choice to keep her in our town for school or send her out of town, to a better school. I'm so happy we made this decision and so is our daughter. She LOVES this school, loves the teachers and she is doing very well with her grades. She actually enjoys going! WHAT!? They have homework, but most of it is done in class - one of her teachers would rather them spend time with family then to do a ton of homework every night! I wasn't sure if that was a good idea or not, but, it is showing in her grades that whatever they are doing, they are doing right!

If your child has disabilities they WILL NOT get the support and assistance justifiably needed for their educational needs.

I would NEVER recommend a parent taking their child or children to Kyrene Middle School if they have disabilities.

I've been fighting them since 6th grade to do an Evaluation on my child who has been medically diagnosed with Autisim and other disabilities through a psychologist and other professionals who can diagnose disabilities.

Barely able to finally get them to evaluate my child during this year as a 7th grader. However as per IDEA act of 2004 the school and district did not comply with the laws and complete the Evaluation in the appropriate time frame. I had to file a complaint with the Az Education School Board.

My child has been through so much this year and we've had to attend so many meetings both for their 504 Plan and for trying to attain an IEP.

Last but not least An Individual Education Evaluation was done on my child by an outside party not associated with the Kyrene School district and paid for by the district.
Hoping this Evaluation would help to attain my child an IEP. My child has once again been denied.

We've had 3 instances where we've been told by staff at KMS that my child may have medical diagnoses of disabilities, but educationally it is not prevalent. Yet my child struggles yearly and without her parents being on top of them their grades would be F or Ds.
3 meetings this year we have been told my child is not eligible for an IEP and only Eligible for an 504 Plan because the needs of my child are better met through the 504.

I wish this were true, but staff are not held accountable and plenty of staff I feel are just there for a pay check and do not want to put the extra effort in to help students with special needs. Children with special needs seem to consistently fall through the cracks, especially if their higher functioning.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD TO KYRENE IF THEY HAVE DISABILITIES. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL AS HAS BEEN WITH OUR CASE.
