Great prices and a decent sized campus when compared to other colleges.
I am a proud alumnus of Southeastern. I received both my bachelors degree and masters degree from this fine university. I have nothing but positive things to say about my time on campus from student involvement to housing to the faculty interaction.
Love the school and the classes, hate the administration (in student services at least). The admissions office has the worst staff I've ever seen. I've never been disrespected so terribly in my entire life, nor had such crappy customer service per-se.
Long story short, they put me on suspension for no reason, deleted all of my classes two weeks before they started, then lifted the suspension several DAYS before classes started, and told me to go re-register classes. Considering classes fill up months before they start, I couldn't enroll in anything, and somehow owed then $900 in tuition fees, yet I couldn't/didn't even attend school that semester.
Needless to say, I applied and went somewhere else.
If they would staff their offices better I might consider going back, but until then I refuse to put up with unprofessionalism like that, especially since I'm paying out of pocket to get my education.
The only reason I gave them a 'good' rating was because of the professors and class options.
It is indeed a full university, although small. Considering the cost, it s completely worth it. But as all college administration is, their offices give you the run around. It s like living at the DMV, but you get educated for cheap!
I have been here 3 semesters now, I love it so far. However, I CAN'T STAND their parking arrangements! I am not sure if it's normal, but I cannot find student parking within a mile of my class, ever. My first semester I was 6-9 months pregnant. They wrote me a violation every single day I was parked "near" the campus .... because there was hardly any student parking. Having a high-risk pregnancy, I couldn't make the haul with books and art materials every day. They even put a boot on my vehicle, they knew my condition and didn't care, even with a verified request from the doctor asking for leniency.
However, I know that's not merit enough to give a bad review, because it is a college not a Walmart. So I give 5 stars because I love all of my instructors/professors. I like the campus (smaller than LSU!). I just love everything else about the school.
I am an SELU alumnus and loved my college experience while going to the university. I received my bachelors degree from SELU. The campus is beautiful and Hammond is a great college town!
I live in Baton Rouge and going to Southeastern over LSU has been the best decision of my life thus far. I'm graduating early, and I have no intention of leaving this school any time soon!
Im only giving it 3 stars cuss I won t be able to attend in the fall cuss our housing issues about getting a dorms but I would be happy and excited to attend selu in the spring
Great campus, has a good load of weirdos but ye.. cool cool.
The professors are awesome and really care about you. Ofcourse is college, meaning is expensive. The students are great to be around, but the parking arrangements are horrible especially with the bus schedule that bring students around campus. It's very hard to make it to class on time
Went on a little family tour to kinda get a feel of what stores was close to campus and to just get out of the house and take a ride up to Hammond. Oh my goodness we were in awe everything is really nice and I feel good knowing my daughter will be going to school in a good area I feel relieved and at peace and I love shopping around Hammond square too.
Very well maintained University with vat array of courses and majors. The staff is extremely nice and the facilities are more than adequate, if not a bit dated.
As everyone has said, the administration system is abysmal, absolutely no coordination between one office to the other and you are shuffled from one office to the next to get anything done. Prepare to spend half a day there if you have any problems and forget getting those problems fixed over the phone. But the education is very good there. Professors are great and classes are small and on top of it all you won't come out saddled with debt for a degree. Just graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology and I have $0 in student loans. Can't beat that, if I was at LSU I would have gotten the same education to come out with 20 to 30k in student loans at least.
Selu is a awesome school best education programs best school of nursing best business school also they are very helpful perfessors to they best to help the student most colleges think of you as another # but selu does selu is a very safe college I know people who like here n I lived here over the summer for cheer camp it's a very safe campus this college also works around your schedule selu got voted best college food in Louisiana dorms are very clean the staff is very friendly also the students are friendly so If you are looking for a college you should choose selu
5 stars bec I graduated with a Bachelors in arts and science psychology major computer science minor but would have given it no stars for their nursing program. Too bad the good suffer from the bad my cousin graduated in this nursing program and I actually called to inquire about my past issues with certain personel only to find out they had either retired or moved on from the bottom to the very top yall. I have a gr8 life now because of my struggle but let me explain one thing. I asked for help which recieved none infact they treated me worse when you are honest and you tell them you are on medications. At the time we were not aware of my schitzoeffectiv bipolar 1 and ADHD disorder but they fired me bec I was on too many medications and said I could not practice with that regimen. Plus went to the board to discuss the matter to try and stay in the program and they argued that I didnt have an official diagnosis of ADHD to which they questioned why I remained on my medication for making me look like an incompetent addict to which I was not and now have the technology to be tested genetically for it and I have the diagnosis. One professor in clinicals questioned why my hands shook well if you gave me a lunch break my blood sugar would not have dropped. None of the students would go out of there way to group up with me and help me I was on my own. But I still knew what was going on. Clinical professor dropped me a whole grade average for missing a meeting that I couldnt find directions to and was 5 minutes late but not allow me inside once arrived. I wanted to you know what to myself over this but yall remember your careers arent you. and I do not care bout this review bec I'm set for life. Proud to be a southeastern alumni graduates in 2007 and worked hard for it and paid my dues. I also worked full time as a nurses aid and had to watch all of my friends do clinicals I was in nursing school with on my unit sit and discuss their patients while I stocked the shelves very humbling and sad experince but I'm set now like I said so dont give up people and keep finding your own answers these people think they are better than you anyway but they not I've seen it so many times in the medical field got some lessons to learn for sure. Proud to write this review too. Went to the school of nursing in aprox 2003 I believe the year to be. I wasnt the only one who was perturbed by this that went on in this school. Yea I havent a clue how or why yall are ranked so high as a top nursing school. I have some gr8 memories though. One student who took my patient was discharged she made the student stop by me to thank me for the best nursing care she had ever recieved. That was awesome. Also stop thinkin yall are rich or that yall are on the front lines of this covid crisis cuz until you go to the wars going on now then I'll call you a hero. They actually do not have time to snap a stupid photo of their front lines.
I love the food. The chef, the server are very friendly.
I'm SELU Alumus and former member of the SELU SGA. From my experience as a transfer student to SELU they have by far the worst administration system in place. No one ever answers the phones or you get transferred a hundred times without making any progress. In order to get anything accomplished you have to physically visit the school. However, my professors were awesome with a few exceptions. Also, the school is rapidly making improvements to their infrastructure and to old communication systems that are currently in place. In the near future I am most certain SELU will have an improved administration system. My two years as a student I witnessed rapid progress of improving campus life for the students and the faculty and staff. Go Green. Go Gold. Lion Up.
Not as big and grand as LSU, but it is a nice quiet campus and about 2 or 3 thousand cheaper a semester. Also be sure never to back into a parking space if you attend here, campus police will give you a $25 ticket.
Best education for your money by far! -HappyGrad of 2016
For the price, the university is great. The problem that I have though would the there seems to be no recourse if teachers do not attend their class. I had an instructor at the beginning of the semester have to cancel multiple days due to family matter. I am not suggesting she not be able to tend to the family, but rather there seems to be no network of support for the instructors to easily acquire substitutes for their classes. The students and teach both hurt from this extremely.
It was great very big and open to alot of things my daughter loves it
Why go to college anywhere else?
Lionup!
This campus gets nicer every year. It's a staple in Hammond. Really the heartbeat of this town.
Nice campus but very rude police when I stopped and asked for directions.
Worst administrative staff that I have yet to encounter. They are either extremely inexperienced or just do not care. I am now attending LSU and that was by far the better university choice.
Great school since open been opened since August thru September a real sediment time of your life.
Took my son here for an ACT test and I was amazed how clean the campus was. In particular, the landscape was awesome. Trees were properly trimmed and all the gardens had fresh pine needle mulch. I walked the campus and was amazed how everything was kept up. I graduated from LSU and was shocked how well SLU is maintained. Great job
Worst university ever, completely unorganized, mold in the dorms that they don't tend to, etc. Horrible experience. 0/10, would not recommend.
Beautiful campus and very friendly and helpful people on the campus.
I have to hand it to Southeastern they have come such a long way in such a short time.
Who could have imagined a place could make so much progress in just a few years.
My daughter is a senior at SELU, she needs this one class as a requirement to graduate and the instructor has a full class. Only one instructor for a major class hmmmm he won't bend the rules therefore all the students that can't get in have to go to school an additional year because the class is only offered in the fall. Not to mention this communications instructor treats his students like crap. Why would SELU allow this and why only one communication class making students have to go to school an additional year. I'm talking about students who try to get into the class a semester before hand. I'd say SELU need to regroup in the communications department.
I'm currently a senior and have nothing but good things to say about this school. I spent 3 semesters at LSU and after being at southeastern, I wouldn't think about going back. With very few exceptions, the professors are awesome. At LSU , I was just a number of a paying customer. The faculty at southeastern had always been very helpful, personal, and actually care about my education and want me to graduate. I've gotten quick and direct help whenever I needed it. Also, I've always been a commuter and sometimes have lived quite a ways away from the school. They take care of their commuter students and offer a good amount of internet classes for those who can't make it every day, especially for the summer semesters. From the rental textbooks to the computer labs and brand new student union, you can definitely see where your money is going I wouldn't think about going anywhere else. Lion up!!
We were able to collaborate with Southeastern Louisiana University on a Bronze Statue for the beautiful campus. Our experience working with them was wonderful and helpful and smooth! Work with them and visit this wonderful place when opportunity arises!
Really nice and beautiful place, and people are nice too. But the bad thing is watch out where you parking at, because you might get a ticket anytime. Parking is harsh at the school area.
Terrible school doesn't care about their students safety at all
Great university of you are wanting big school feel, but small town coziness. My alma mater and my daughter is enrolled and loves this place.
I don't go to SLU my daughter will be starting this year and my son is a former graduate from there.
