Knights of Heroes: Building Life-Long Friendships and Outdoor Adventures
Knights of Heroes is a non-profit organization that aims to provide mentorship, outdoor adventures, and life-long friendships to children who have lost their fathers in military service. The organization was founded by retired Army Ranger Colonel David Glassman in 2006, with the mission to help these children cope with the loss of their fathers and build resilience through outdoor activities.
Leaffor Campers - Build Life Long Friendships, Go On Exciting Outdoor Adventures That Will Push You Out Of Your Comfort Zone, And Have A Mentor!
The Knights of Heroes program is designed for boys aged 11-14 years old who have lost their fathers in military service. The program offers a week-long summer camp where the boys can participate in various outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, rock climbing, archery, and more. These activities are not only fun but also challenging enough to push the boys out of their comfort zones and help them develop resilience.
One unique aspect of Knights of Heroes is that each boy is paired with a mentor who serves as a positive role model throughout the camp experience. Mentors are typically active-duty or retired military personnel who volunteer their time to support these young boys. They provide guidance and support during camp activities while also building meaningful relationships that extend beyond the summer camp experience.
In addition to summer camps, Knights of Heroes offers year-round programs such as adventure weekends where participants can engage in similar outdoor activities while building camaraderie with other participants. These programs aim to create a community for these young boys where they can find support from others who have experienced similar losses.
Knights of Heroes has received numerous accolades for its work supporting children who have lost parents due to military service. In 2019 alone, they were recognized by both Military Times and Charity Navigator for their outstanding work supporting military families.
If you're looking for an opportunity to support military families and help young boys build resilience through outdoor activities, Knights of Heroes is an excellent organization to consider. With its focus on mentorship, community building, and outdoor adventures, it's a program that can make a real difference in the lives of those who participate.
