Took my 20 month old to the playground. She had a great time running around and climbing. Lots of things to do. Other children her age seemed to be enjoying themselves as well. The other parents there were friendly. My kid cried when it was time to go lol

My son loves this playground! I love it to! Nice neighborhood with friendly people. It also has a sprinkler system for the summer heat. It's not all jumbled to where its hard to see your child.

Well maintained facility, helpful staff. They have icons with dates signifying the various things that were at this location. No commentary on the sign but a staff member decoded it for me. Cooperative play group is what brought me there with my grandson

Everytime I bring the kids over here you can smell marijuana all over the play ground. I try to avoid this place everytime if I don't have to come here for birthday party. if you want your kids to get high and stupid when they grow up. This is the place for you. But my suggestion avoid this place.

This was a perfect playground for my 4 year old. It had lots of things to climb that we're appropriate for her ability level while still being fun and interesting. There's also a larger playground right next to it for older kids; the bigger part has a huge slide appropriate for late elementary age and also some climbing stuff for elementary age kids.

Great! Noah, my 4-year-old nephew thoroughly enjoyed running around and playing on the various apparatuses (spelling?). I appreciate the "ground". Rather than cement, it's a soft, pliable black top that doesn't injure children should they fall. We also went indoors, where we watched as boys - about 12 to 14 or so - learning to play basketball with coaches patiently instructing.

Days before visiting Washington D.C., I searched on google for a playground in D.C. to take my kids to. Google gave me this playground. I carefully looked at the rating which is 4.6 stars out of 5. I even called the place 2 days before leaving my home state in New England. Therefore, joyfully, yesterday, I took my three kids to the Kennedy Recreation Center playground around 6h pm. At the very second, I stepped in there I had butterflies in my belly. Although they were nice, there way a handful of drunk people in the kiddo area, one of them just stood up and peed in front of the kids and sat down to keep drinking, like it was the most natural things to do. I walked a little further in the playground by the swings. There, there were dead rats and mouses, some of them in an advance state of decomposition. I just grabbed my kids and rushed out of the place. I was uttermostly shocked by the unsanitary of the place. The worse, some kids, maybe from the neighborwood, were playing there next to those dead rodents quietly. As a mom, I believe every kid deserve the best of everything. They are our future! I used to trust google to provide accurate information. Apparently it is not the case. Google sent me right to a ghetto. It could have got my kids in danger. Now I learn my lesson to never trust google anymore and to quintuple check for a place when I will travel to a city new to me.

I took my 4th and 5th graders. Very nice playground and spray park. Well suited for my upper elementary kids to run around and have fun. Good size nathrooms are available on site. The cleanliness of the bathrooms could have been better. Some students chose to change somewhere else.

(My review is for the playground only because I haven't actually been inside of the rec) My kids love this place. They go to Kipp DC which is right down the street so they always insist that I bring them here after school. The playground by itself is amazing, but when they turn the water on then that bring this place to a whole other level. There's shaded benches that you can sit at to escape the heat while the kids are playing, and alot of time there's a lot of teenagers/grown people that hang around the area, but in my opinion they're harmless and never bother me or any of the kids. I would reccomend this place.

It'd be a much better place if they cleaned out the mentally ill and drug addicted men who congregate there. It's also hurtful when you complain about sexual harassment by the addicts, and the staff at the Center just blow you off.

The Kennedy Rec Center has a wonderful playground and splashpad however, I know very little about the ongoings inside the center.

The playground is split into two age appropriate areas, one for older children and one for toddlers and both have gates and locks that are not easy for the toddlers to unlock on their own. My favorite piece of equipment on the big kid area is a steering wheel powered spinning four seater piece (similar to the spinning tea cups at Disney or spinning pumpkins at county fairs), if you get on it be prepared for the neighborhood kids to spin you 'till you're sick, my toddler loves it! The little kid area has a tarp over most of the equipment, this is great because stuff here gets warm!

The equipment here gets HOT during the summer, luckily the splash pad in the big kid area is my favorite of any in the area. There are misting tunnels, sprays of water coming from the concrete, large umbrellas dripping with water- I've seen some resourceful kids use the water to cool down slides and other equipment. I would recommend wearing shoes in the splash-pad, areas that are not wet will burn the living daylights out of your feet (I learned this the hard way when my toddler wandered away).

Also a good multi use park, sometimes the bathrooms are available. And a shaded picnic area between the big and little kid parks is a good place to hide from the rain or have a birthday party. And it's close to Dolci Gelatti.

I've never had any issues with creepy people or drug pushers but I've always come here before 5pm

Sadly there are to many racist homeless that threaten people and there lives, that are able to float there. Not all homeless are like that. Some are good people with disadvantages who need help , yet in DC to many bad apples make it worse for all, and DC is doing a despicable job helping its better people. DC in these times is not making necessary advantages for people who truly deserve it. Instead the advantages are too often given to the terrorest like people who make things worse for everyone. This issue is also nation wide. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves. A brighter future is up to us to achieve. Destroying what is good will Fail that. Good luck.

Awesome playground! Split up for different age groups. Splash pad. Nothing broken, sharp or dangerous. Our hotel was nearby and it was perfect for my 3.5 yr old. Also featured tennis courts, basketball court, baseball field, and a little "nature trail" with benches, etc.
