About Keneseth Israel
Keneseth Israel: A Vibrant Community of Faith and Fellowship
Keneseth Israel is a dynamic and welcoming community of faith that has been serving the spiritual needs of individuals and families for over a century. Located in the heart of Philadelphia, our synagogue offers a warm and inclusive environment where people from all walks of life can come together to worship, learn, and grow.
At Keneseth Israel, we believe that Judaism is not just a religion but also a way of life. We are committed to providing our members with opportunities to deepen their connection to Jewish tradition, culture, and values through meaningful prayer services, engaging educational programs, social events, and community service projects.
Our synagogue is led by Rabbi Lance J. Sussman who brings his passion for Jewish learning and leadership to every aspect of our congregation's life. Rabbi Sussman has been recognized as one of America's leading rabbis by Newsweek magazine and has authored numerous books on Jewish history and theology.
Whether you are new to Judaism or have been practicing your faith for years, Keneseth Israel offers something for everyone. Our diverse membership includes families with young children as well as seniors who have been part of our community for decades.
One thing that sets Keneseth Israel apart from other synagogues is our commitment to social justice. We believe that it is not enough to simply pray or study; we must also take action to make the world a better place. That's why we partner with local organizations such as Philabundance (a food bank) or Habitat for Humanity (a housing charity) in order help those in need within our city.
In addition to social justice work within Philadelphia itself ,we also support global causes such as disaster relief efforts around the world through donations made by members during High Holy Day services each year.
Another unique aspect about Keneseth Israel is its emphasis on education at all ages levels .We offer classes ranging from Hebrew school classes for children starting at age 5 up until adult education courses taught by Rabbi Sussman himself .These courses cover topics such as Torah study ,Jewish history ,and contemporary issues facing Jews today .
Our synagogue also hosts many cultural events throughout the year including concerts featuring renowned musicians like Joshua Bell or Itzhak Perlman ,film screenings showcasing Jewish-themed movies like Schindler’s List or Fiddler on The Roof ,and art exhibits highlighting works created by local artists .
If you're looking for an inclusive community where you can connect with others who share your values while deepening your understanding about what it means be part of the Jewish people then look no further than Keneseth Israel!
