This is a great specialty supermarket, stocked with Japanese food products, ingredients and prepared sushi. It is small so stock is limited, clean, very neat and very helpful staff. The shelves aren't labeled, so you have to ask staff to help. They have a great selection of teas and ingredients. Wouldn't purchase vegetables here though.

I'm working through a Japanese cookbook and was in the neighborhood so I stopped by to pick up pantry supplies. They have pretty much everything you'd need, even stuff like konnyaku (devil's tongue jelly), at reasonable enough prices for the UES. I'm not sure what the turnover's like on the prepared foods, but I'd come back here for pantry ingredients.

Awesome selection of Japanese food products and some tasty prepared foods.

Most of prepared foods are made by the crew in the front of the store and they're friendly and happy to accommodate changes.

Fresh produce is great and so are meats and fish, plus the service is great.

I think it claims to be the oldest Japanese grocery store in the city. After remodeling it is cleaner and higher end looking but kind of lost some of it's charm. You can no longer tell that it is over a hundred years old.

Yummy finds from Japan! Matcha green tea kit kats, super soft japanese cheesecake, sushi, even some household items. Fresh fish and vegetables too. It's a nice place to discover a new adventure (or a familiar one) for your taste buds.

Katagiri is definitely the best Japanese Grocery Store in Manhattan.
I can get almost Japanese food I want in this small Japanese grocery store.

Nice selections : Premium Beef, pastries by Hamada-ya, freshly made Fugetsu-do wagashi, Japanese confectionery by Sakuraya and fresh vegetables from Suzuki Farm.

It's unavoidable, but it's a shame that there wasn't something that was there the last time I came, depending on the timing, and that it was something I particularly wanted. In my case, I lived in a rural town in the north, so it was quite painful to pay about $ 28 for transportation.

They had pocky and green tea poweder, and their sushi seemed guie good. Mind you, it's a grocery, not an eatery, but other than that, seemed like a good place to stop by for J-foodstuff on Manhattan.

First of all this Japanese store would have all the stuff you need.
However I was disappointed by the Wagyu I bought when I visited last Sunday. It did not seem very fresh but I decided to give it a shot. I put it in the fridge immediately after I got home. When I tried it the next day the meat went bad already - ruined my sukiyaki.
Very upset since I went all the way to the grocery store so I can get Japanese wagyu.

Quick and small Japanese grocery with a nice selection of grab and go prepared sushi and ramen (now provided by Brooklyn Ramen). Fresh sashimi is in the back for great prices, and there are frozen and refrigerated food sections (edamame and frozen soba are my favorites). Onigiri in the afternoon are a great snack for $2-3.

Their onigiri are legit the best, and reasonable at 2 dollars. I always make sure to grab one when I walk by the store. Mentaiko always tastes fresh and ocean-y.
Love all the hot prepared foods, and the sushi. <3

Nice staff and a variety of goods.

Nice staff and a variety of goods.
The store sells a lot of imported Japanese goods, including ingredients, snacks, sauces and so on.
Also, the price is affordable as well. Compared to lots of Asian supermarket's prices, the store has a rather low price for certain Japanese goods.
The cooked food is a little pricy for students, but not too expensive (around 10 dollars). If you had not tried udon or Japanese bento yet, you can grab one and try it :)
A recommended Japanese supermarket here in NYC!

I've visited here for the first time in a long time after the pandemic.
Let me write things I felt honestly, I was really disappointed with the customer service, especially cashiers.
It looked they were not friendly and no smile to customers at all. And I saw two women working as cashier talked behind someone's back and complained about something with mumbling, I don't know it was for customer or not but even seeing it objectively, it's inappropriate.
Of course, now we are facing hard time, and maybe for them, they are just working for money, but they should keep in mind to put themselves in customers' shoes. Unless they don't try to keep in mind that, they are seen as low-quality people who never challenge and improve themselves, just getting old.

This place reminds me of the golden gai in Tokyo , or St least I like to reminiscent Everytime I come here. It is a small shop with Japanese specialty foods . I like the deli section and the freshly made sushi , or sometimes I would stop for a bowl of noodles.
The sushi grade fish at the back of the store is also something I go for when I am in the neighborhood and need fish to make sushi at home.

Lots of Japan else products that u don't know how to use but it's here. ...

Yum yum yum! I love going here because there is always something I want to try and usually something else I want to buy to keep for later.

The front of the store has lots of prepared foods, all of which are excellent. Onagiri rock, but so does everything else. I stop here on my lunch hour and sometimes after work, and take things home for dinner.... and if I'm feeling adventurous and not lazy, I buy some excellent fresh ingredients from the main part of the store and make something.

Best Japanese food market in the city!

Has a nice selection of japanese snacks, typically more fresh than the other asian markets in town.
The style of the prepared food has changed though, for the worse in my opinion, and enough for me to take away a star.

I love this grocery store!! I can find all of my unique Japanese spices, noodles, candies and more here!! Their packaged foods are fresh - prepared daily, tasty and affordable! I stop in at least once a week to purchase fresh sushi (they also have a sushi stand hand-rolled fretted, if you prefer - for the same price as the packaged sushi) and the staff is always friendly and delightful!

Small Japanese market that sells a large variety of products. I like to but a large part of 1 and 1/2 lbs of soba noodles. Also a brand of soybean paste made with Koji for about $6. Some frozen ramen noodles for about $5. 1 star taken away for the mushy onigiri.
