This is an excellent library and so much more than just books. The HfUB is one of their greatest assets. There you can convert old slides negatives tapes records into digital formats. Plus they have a 3D printer. Great kids department staffed by excellent people. Their weekly and special programs are the best.

Kalamazoo has a truly great public library. Plenty of books available, excellent ebook resources in Libby and Hoopla, and good communication with its patrons. Parking can be a little problematic but very often there is street parking close to the library but if you are willing to walk a block or two you can almost always find free street parking. Their hours have been cut back slightly due to the covid-19 problem and they are now opening at 10 in the morning at the Central Branch downtown. They've changed how books are returned. There is currently a bin just after the first set of entry doors. I believe you can still use the chute behind the library if you wish to return books from your car. They've also divided all of the self-checkout locations so that rather being next to each other they are scattered about the library so you can easily distance yourself if you wish. The library is spacious and comfortable. I heartily recommend a visit.

Update April 28, 2021. For some reason the library decided to close again about a week to 10 days ago for no required reason. I can't tell you how upset I am with their handling of the whole covid-19 issue. We've known for some time that covid-19 is not transmitted by touching things. Yet they insist on this crazy behavior. Yes you can still check out a book and pick it up but that's not how I usually use the library. I go there to browse for books that I would like to read and there is no browsing in this current situation. What a shame. If you think their reason is because of social distancing or crowd control, forget it. I have never been there when there was what I would call a crowd.
