Joppa Outreach: Helping Homeless People Rebuild Their Lives
Joppa Outreach is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping homeless people survive, find housing, and rebuild their lives. The organization was founded in 2008 by Joe Stevens and his wife, Jackie. They started Joppa Outreach after seeing the need for more support for the homeless population in Des Moines, Iowa.
The name "Joppa" comes from a biblical story about a woman named Tabitha who lived in the town of Joppa. She was known for her good works and acts of charity towards those in need. When she died, her friends called upon Peter to come and pray over her body. Miraculously, she came back to life. The story of Tabitha inspired Joe and Jackie Stevens to start Joppa Outreach as a way to honor her legacy.
Since its inception, Joppa Outreach has grown significantly and now serves hundreds of homeless individuals each year. The organization provides a wide range of services including food assistance, clothing donations, hygiene products, medical care referrals, job training programs, transportation assistance and much more.
One of the most important services that Joppa Outreach provides is housing assistance. Many homeless individuals struggle with finding safe and affordable housing options due to various reasons such as lack of income or poor credit history. However,J oppa outreach helps them find suitable accommodation so they can have a stable place to call home.
In addition to providing direct services to those experiencing homelessness,J opp outreach also works closely with other organizations within the community such as churches, schools, and businesses,to create awareness about homelessness issues.J opp outreach also collaborates with local government agencies on policy initiatives aimed at addressing homelessness issues within Des Moines,Iowa.
J opp outreach has received numerous awards for its work over the years including recognition from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds who declared November 14th as "JOPPA Day" in Iowa. The organization has also been featured in various media outlets including the Des Moines Register, WHO-TV, and KCCI.
