Their Thrift store is very nice, clean and has quality items.
Great place!! Very clean and well kept. Volunteers are a great help
They take excellent care of the animals, but the thrift shop is hardly ever open and they only take donations once a week for three hours
Not much in thrift store that is attached to shelter.
What a great job they do here, I've been coming here for years, bringing them towels, blankets, food and treats for the animals
So, I feel terrible having to write this review because I am sure the people who contribute their time are very well intentioned, however it is important for people to know. We had our Kitten nurtured at the shelter and they did a great job as he came out perfect... however, he got fleas and what a nightmare this is.. i really wish we had gone to a private practice...
Recently adopted the most wonderful 9 yr. old lahasa apsa from Jersey Shore Animal Center. This place is so clean! Everyone so nice and helpful. Kudos to Natalie and all her staff.
Dr. Cait, the vet, actually answered the phone when I called to ask about spaying my puppy! She and her staff were excellent from start to finish. (Affordable too.) Thank you!
We submitted an application for a small dog that we met. We called to check on the status and they were very vague at first and then said they wouldn't reccomend that dog to us because of his mix of breed "he's a terrier mix which they tend to be mouthy and we wouldn't reccomend since you have a child"
So I guess since pitbulls have a bad stigma they dont reccomend them either to ANYONE?...I cannot stand people who label certain breeds as "not good" they didn't even let us spend time with him physically outside of his kennel.... SAD.
My husband and I were looking to adopt. They were friendly, courteous and efficient.
They invest in the animals in their care. O have had very good experiences with them.
Awful staff. Incredibly rude and horrible to talk to. The receptionist, Natalie is especially horrible. Would not recommend. I feel bad for the animals here.
I'm very happy my cat got taken care of from the wonderful staff. But, he came home with flees Luckily I comb him 3-5 times a day and found the few that the frontline didn't turn away. I would have given 5 stars if not for the flees!!!! Totally grossed out. Hope my donation will help any other animal from coming home with flees!
We had a wonderful experience with the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter. We adopted our Bella and it was a very smooth process. The shelter was great to deal with. Thank you for helping to enrich our lives with our sweet miniature Schnauzer, Bella!
Spat and neuter clinic is absolutely horrendous. It s a long process for a HEALTHY YOUNG Labrador retriever. They withhold information from you and make getting your dog spayed so long.
I am so happy and grateful!! I adopted a puppy there today! What a wonderful experience I had. The staff was so nice and pleasant and very helpful! They made the adoption process so quick and easy! The facility is nice and clean. They take excellent care of there animals!!
Great place the proceeds go to help the animals at the shelter.
Clean facilities. The employee who gave my kids and I a tour was extremely nice and knowledgeable also. Great guy.
JSAC is a great facility. The staff keeps it immaculate and truly care about the animals. We adopted our Stormy from there and the staff was very clear in explaining the process and facilitating the adoption. Great facility!!
This place is such a hassle when it comes to adoptions. Did they forget that their dogs are living in cages? Im a home owner with a fenced in yard, why are they giving me problems? Because I dont have veterinarian records from 18 years ago. Get real.
I adopted a 6 month teenager kitty in 2013, I was 64 years old at the time and my best friend had volunteered there and recommended to come down and look for a kitty. I did and found my beautiful cat Patrick, the love of my life. I recommended a woman I work with to go there last week as she was interested in adopting a kitten, she is in her mid 60's. When she went there she was insulted and was told cats can live twenty years and we can not allow certain age group of people to adopt because of that. My friend was highly insulted and said she would never go there ever again. No one has a guarantee on how long you can live, this was not right and upsetting to me, because I told her how pleased I was with my adoption with Patrick. I can understand being careful on who is adopting but there are so many cats and dogs that need homes and I have read a few reviews where people have been turned down that want to rescue an animal where they would be given a forever home.
The nicest people, clean and the animals are very well taken care of
They treat the animals so well and with lots of love and affection. I ve gotten my dog from them and she is so well behaved
I'm not sure why they don't have themselves also listed as a thrift store, but they are. I have never tried to adopt an animal from here so I can't speak to that end, but I will talk about the thrift store part. The thrift store is open 10-4 Tuesday through Saturday. They have a small but good variety of items: mostly clothes, but also kitchen and home ware, pet supplies sometimes, craft supplies, books, picture frames. Everything I find here is in good condition. Prices are exceptionally fair. I have bought several early 1900's books here for as little as $1.
One of my favorite thrift stores in the area!
Beyond disappointed with the lack of care these people contain.
Such a wonderful place for all they do for the animals. They gave us a tour and we are definitely adopting in the near future.
I m glad that you have to fill out paperwork and prove that you re going to provide a good home for a pet. There s people that see puppies that are cute until they grow up and brought back.
Owning a pet is a responsibility and that s how it should be.
They have a thrift store that is small but full of gems! They also do good works for our furry friends.
Called in the morning inquiring on a cat I saw online. It was confirmed that the cat was available. We are told the doors open at noon, so at noon we arrive to see that the doors don t open until 1 that s okay, everyone makes mistakes. We come back at 1 and inquire about the cat and we are told that the cat was adopted - ok I m somewhat annoyed but it happens, right? Lack of communication?
We are then taken into a back room where the cats are able to roam, well that s nice, right? Oh but you aren t allowed to touch the cats. You can just look..... I have some questions on the logic of this:
Why would you take me to a back room where the cats are allowed to roam but I can t touch? Oh I did ask the question. The response was, if you went to another shelter you could bring germs to this shelter, so you can t touch. Ok, I say, the woman then proceeds to say that if I want to touch I have to fill out an application - so I m guessing you no longer have germs once you complete an application to adopt? Which now leads me to these questions: why didn t they say, once we entered the shelter, please fill out an application is you would be able to interact with an animal and wash your hands.
We left, it s easier to go into Philadelphia and find a cat on the streets to rescue.
Maybe it's just me but everytime I've visited this shelter I've left aggravated. They tour you through their facility which is fine, but not if the volunteers are going to rush you because they have other things to do. It appears the majority of volunteers are senior citizens, and the ones I have dealt with had very little breed knowledge and were not familiar with the case history of the dogs we were interested. There is positively no touching the animals, which I understand they do not want to spread germs but when you even remotely approach a cage to read an animal's body language or get a closer look, your immediately told to stand back! I can't imagine they are homing a lot of animals under these circumstances let alone the $250-350.00 adoption fees. In my opinion, there are far better shelters in the area with lower fees and much better staff and policies.
Submitted an application and it was a complete waste of time because they off of my two regected applications prior
Awesome people! Take great care of the dogs and are very caring and dedicated to finding forever homes for all the animals
They will take all donations, but won't let you adopt if you have adopted from them before and returned a pet that didn't work out. Sad!!!! We wanted to adopt 2 kitties that have been there for a year and just found out we were turned down. Absolutely heartbreaking.
What a shame!!! The rumors are true! The director needs a distemper shot ASAP!!!
The peoople at the animal center helped me in recovering a run away, one year old, cat who had never been out of the house. They were wonderful. The told me why the cat would not come to me when I saw him every day. What I should and should not do and also rented me a safe trap to catch him. They were far better than most doctors I go to !! :-)
Animals are well cared for but you cant interact with the animals until after you've put in an application. Anyway, put in an application and was told to call back after 1pm the next day. When I called they said that they cant update the status until they have the lease and letter from landlord. I wish they would have explained that to us before. I also felt like because we opted out of obedience training (we want to try it on our own first), we got scrutinized by the receptionist lady, "even though you dont have any experience"??? Well, I had kids without experience and they are alive and thriving! I get they want the animals to go to a good home but how or where or with whom I decide to train the animal with really isnt anyones business. We have just been putting it off until our kids were old enough to learn about the responsibility of having a dog and to think we might get denied and the animal have to stay at the shelter is so disappointing.
Although I didn't get the outcome I was looking for, the staff here are great. They LOVE the animals and put their best interest as a #1 priority. They gave me other avenues to explore.
Love their thrift shop. Wish I could adopt all the cute animals there. Please adopt or donate. They deserve it.
Theyve got some neat things. And it helps the animals, so its a great cause.
Clean. Caring. Great volunteers. Thrift Shop just ok.
Had my cat spayed here, the staff was friendly and caring, no complications, Kit was quite comfortable and happy.
My family and I adopted a kitten, Grayce on October 24, 2013.. Grayce has grown into a sweet and Loving cat. I would definitely recommend Jersey Shore Animal Center to anyone looking to adopt a pet.
They take good care of the animals. We have adopted a couple of cats there.
You cant go in because of covid
Fill out paperwork online, and then they will bring out the animal you picked
Didn't see that online
went there and the place was locked up tight. Finally somebody came out cuz they were wondering why people were standing outside. She explained the process to us. Seeming very annoyed probably because I didn't read what was online.
We went exticed to take home a new puppy but there rules were to much my dog was attacked when little so is little mean to dogs but has learned better my dog growled once and they took the puppy away and left my whole family upset
DO NOT GO IN IF YOU THINK YOU ARE GETTING A PET...ESPECIALLY IF YOU JUST LOST ONE! YOUR HEART WILL BE BROKEN EVEN MORE...JUST LIKE MINE! IF THEY ARE GOING TO BE SO PICKY THEY SHOULD SCREEN EVERYONE BEFORE HAND INSTEAD OF BUILDING HOPES LIKE MINE! THEY DESTROYED ME NOW!!! Thanks for the hopes and dreams of the two i wanted to adopt! AND BY THE WAY THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO TAKE TWO SISTER ETC....BAD BAD BAD....
We brought our kittens here to get them neutered, and the people here were so amazing. Took really good care of them and they even clipped their nails and it wasn't expensive at all!!!
No kill shelter, very kind to animals and make sure they all get to play and interact with humans and other animals if both animals are friendly. They work hard here, they really try, they really care. Great work is done here, would love to see an expansion because the work they do is great to the cause
Got my dog spayed here. Great staff. Vet was very detailed on the procedure and all went well. My dog came home same day
Seemed like a good place for animals, however the thrift store was disappointing. Selection limited to old lady pots and pans, old lady nic-knacks, and old lady clothing.
Even if u can afford place denies u for adoption based on credit regardless of situation
Terrible people, terrible customer service, terrible in every sense of the word. Avoid association with this place at all costs
I'm pretty upset, me and my boyfriend went to visit a dog I fell in love with on thier Instagram. We put on a applicationfor him the next day and had been told they would call us we waited a day or 2 gathering up the much needed info only to find out he been adopted today. No one called us or even said hey this dog is already under considerationby someone else. I'm so heart broken
Super clean great staff and all animals should have a home. Streets are for cars, not animals. Adopt before purchase... We all win !!
I donate a lot of items there. They do such great work rescuing animals & give them the needed medical care. Great place to adopt a companion who only want an opportunity to love & be loved. They also have a little consignment store in the same building with some nice items.
Fell in love with my Chance (formerly Hayes) there. The staff and service were excellent.
Quaint thrift shop with a nice selection of new and used items. They usually have a wide selection of pet items. The items are usually clearly marked. They also have other services for your furry friend and an adoption center if you need one.
Great Thrift Store!! I like that the store helps the shelter!!
Animals are well cared for. They had a smaller selection of dogs and cats than I expected. Felt they led us on about adopting a dog only to tell us we weren't qualified.
Perfect pups, but the place is waaaay too demanding with their rules and regulations!! They would have come to a nice, loving and caring home... Don't waste your time, because you will walk away empty handed and heartbroken from this place....
Seemed like a very clean place. And I'm sure the volunteers there are amazing, BUT the blonde lady in the front is just plain rude. My fiance and I went there interested in a couple of the dogs. Without even looking through our application or making phone calls to our current vet and landlord, she dismissed us and said we wouldn't be approved. I work in law enforcement and my fiance is in the military. If they would have called our vet and landlord, we would have gotten nothing but the best references. It's sad that we could have given one of those pups a great home, but we weren't even given a chance. Crazy. There was another girl in the front that said "well I think the one dog would be great for them," but she was dismissed too. It sucks some of these dogs are missing out on good homes. It's happened to others I know too.
Good environment. The dogs seem well treated. The staff is genuinely caring. They have a lot of volunteers and good facilities.
We had a wonderful experience. They do a great job of vetting out the animals and making sure they're a good match with the adoptive family, and vice versa. They provided a lot of information on the dog we adopted. They also want to make sure the dog has what they need when they get home, and they provided a crate, dog bed, and toys to go home with the dog.
Very professional, the staff is very much up on all the animals they have in their facility. They keep the smaller animals and the bigger animals in different rooms. They make sure that their animals are going to a good home and get the proper veterinary care. The facility is very clean and well-run. I am so happy with the kitten I adopted I named him Baxter and he is very lovable and you can tell he was very well taken care of while at their facility.
I adopted my dog Rocky from this shelter 14 years ago. He was a lab mix, totally adorable and the love of my life. They were very careful and interviewed me and came to my house to make sure I really had a big fenced yard for him to run around in. I really liked the fact that they actually checked up on adoptive pet parents. This past Saturday Rocky passed away from cancer, he was the best little boy I could have hoped for and he was the love of my life. I hope other people go there or to any other shelter and adopt. He was the best thing that ever came into my life and I have no regrets.
Very nice shop and the people are nice.
They accommodate many areas of interest.
Great little shop where donations are accepted and all proceeds go to the animals. It is a no kill shelter. ..all the animals are chipped, spayed and neutered. All overseen by a local vet.
Clean and not a ton of dogs but some very adorable ones please visit and adopt..
I can t say enough good things about this rescue. Once you fill out an application and are approved the staff will go out of their way to accommodate you.
We met our new dog Molly and hit it off right away. They are very generous. We were sent home with all the things your pet could need. It was like Christmas!
Molly came all the way from Tennessee. Molly is the most gentle, affectionate girl I ve ever met. This little girl has truly rescued us.
If you re looking for that special fur ever pet, look no further than Jersey Shore Animal Rescue.
We just had 2 kittens spayed and everything went very well. Staff was very polite and answered all our questions and concerns. Would definitely recommend this location if you need to have your pet spayed or neutered. Here's our 2 lovebugs
SOME OLD LADY THERE IS BIYIST&THEY ARE NOT KIND TO EVERYONE WHO NEEDS A PET TO BE HAPPY...SO DU HELWITHEM
I got My Louie back in 2012 he is a Pekingese thank you Jersey Shore (Ping) now Louie is doing just great.
