Fantastic education institution, one of the top universities nation wide for post graduation employment so other university's in the state might spend more on marketing but JCU gets results and that is something worth celebrating!

I don't think people take this seriously as a 'real university '. In Brisbane the students seem to be all international students who are here for other reasons (eg to get a visa). I wonder if they have any domestic students in the Brisbane campus? I think most employers would choose graduates from universities with better reputations. JCU also has a lecturer and tutor who doesn't even hold a degree in her subject area she teaches (eg teaching accounting but holding a degree in Economics?) or something like that. That is what I heard from someone.

Ignore J Smith, JCU is well known and JCU was ranked as having the highest post graduate employment rate of ALL universities in Australia, sounds like J Smith is still living in 1970 not 2020. JCU is a great university and will set you on the path to success.

i was a study abroad student for one semester here and overall it was a good university. HUGE cost to study abroad here but great location in smaller Townsville. decent teachers and good classes. sometimes can be very difficult but an overall very good place to study.

I was a semester study abroad student. Overall I was disappointed with my experience. Australia was beautiful and I had a great time traveling but university was pathetic at best. I came as an A (HD) student with an intent to learn and better myself in science and even with quality work and a low amount of drinking, going out and partying I found myself getting below average grades. When confronting my professors to determine my faults and how to fix them I was met with poor responses, lack of interest, and blatant disregard. Students don't care, teachers don't care, administration receives all of the funding (used for advertising). Overall if you are looking to study abroad in Australia...don't choose JCU. It is not worth the cost and disrespect.

WARNING!! Avoid this Uni if you planning to study Pharmacy, it's not worth it! poor teaching and not worth the money. They only care about your money. if you fail one subject you will be a year behind and again you will never get any support from the teachers. My advice is to find another University. 1st year would start around 70-80 students then decreases to half the number then in the fourth year would be only 15-19 students who survived.
Overpriced Uni that doesn't care about the students. They are more interested in collecting tuition money than helping their students. However, the professors are most unhelpful and they only guarantee housing for freshman students. Also, their retention rate is very low as many students transfer out within their first year.
If you're considering this school, save yourself some money and go to a community college, you'd be getting a better education even there.

It is with regret that I am to learn that even though you are able to transfer from another University to complete a degree your previous credits and distinctions are not credited to you at your graduation because you did not attend JCU for the entirety of the degree. In other words you are penalised even though it is beyond your control to transfer. It is disappointing students who work extremely hard to obtain their marks at all times do not receive a merit they deserve.

Spouse did a course there only to realise it was unaccredited after she finished her degree even though it was advertised as being accredited. JCU are a bunch of incompetents and students should get their money back for being lied to.

Ignore all the fake reviews here, just people who want to damage the Universities reputation because of one decision. JCU is a great place to study and grow as an individual, Townsville is idyllic and offers a beautiful and unique environment to live and learn in.

Now years after completing a degree here my advice would be to only study here if you plan on beginning work for some years in the local Queensland/North Queensland area after completing studies.

A degree from this lesser known University does not have the same value as a degree from a bigger University in the cities of Australia or from more well known international Universities. Therefore you will be at a competitive disadvantage if moving away from the area after completing studies.

For a Spouse. Disgusting teaching, most shouldn't have their job's, should just charge $40,000 to stream videos on youtube and write paper down to a screen. As this is how they are teaching the "people of tomorrow" Never any good feedback. Funny how words on paper can fail someone even though they are exceptional in the field and have been told so. If only this company could be taken to court. Getting paid top dollars for doing stuff all. Scum bags.

DO NOT GO TO THIS UNIVERSITY!!! I repeat, DO NOT ATTEND THIS UNIVERSITY. Attended two classes and they charged me 100% of the semester. When I dropped I was told by N****** that I would only owe half the semester, she was incorrect. When you trying to make a payment plan, they say they cant. They will "attempt their collection efforts," then when you asked them how long you can make payments for, they say they cant give me a time frame, it just has to be paid in a "reasonable" time. The program is very unrealistic for working people. Do not waste your time, stress and well earned money.

Worst experience of my life. Waste of money, poor facilities and teachers. Have now transferred to a new uni and loving it. Jcu is the shittest university in the world and the worst place for anyone who wants to study law. Highly Do not recommend!!

Excellent teaching staff. In fact, the corporate level could do with some teaching staff of their own; like teaching the corporates to be more engaged with the students in terms of facilities. I'm specifically addressing the problem of car parking. JCU seems to turn the ol' blind eye when issues over car parks comes up. When you think about requiring car park permits on a Townsville university campus, without a guarantee of actually getting a park, do wonder why they do it? Like, seriously, why are they charging the students to come to uni? I get it addresses the sustainability-approach JCU takes, but given the limited public transport options in Townsville, consistent hot weather to cycle in, and students living in areas where carpooling simply isn't an option, the corporate decision not to ensure there are car parks for students who need them just sickens me.

If you ever get do one of those transport surveys and be clear about the lack of car parks, and still experience no improvements in the years after, you can see how the campus doesn't *really* care about your need to drive to campus. You are in a low number in which they will always consider 'too low' to take any action.

I studied my Masters here. It is a very nature friendly and at the same time, well developed university. Very well organized. If you are someone who wants to study in a really big and green campus, this is the place for you. I'm not even kidding, they are world no. 1 in Marine Biology. Every department is up to the standard.

The university is generally medium faculty cooperative .. but the country is very bored what I recommend because Townsville is a small town lacking international students and non-diverse people. The University does not evaluate the activities and activities of the students there, you really feel that you are strangely, especially if you are single and away from the tourist cities as a hindrance. Your study in a beautiful environment reflects your academic performance and renews your desire to acquire knowledge ..
But what distinguishes the city is the safety and morals of its people are remarkable and welcoming.

James Cook University offers well-planned support services for international students who wish to study in the university. International support volunteers, learning advisers, student assistance helplines and student mentoring programs are available to students. Aside from all these, JCU also grants scholarships for international students.

International students support is way too poor. they don't care about international students as well as they are so rude. Lyle is the perfect example of rudeness. believe me there are some high schools are even better than this uni.

From the start there were communication problems. Online studies allows lecturers to hide from students. With no tutors to assist, students are left on their own to resolve problems. The intensive courses don't give you the time to learn from mistakes. For example, if I had received results from my first assignment before I completed my second and had the opportunity to discuss the results with my lecturer or tutor, I would have adapted by writing style. A simple video on how to present your information in that particular discipline would have been of great help. To be fair to James Cook, my knowledge of data analysis was basic but you do attend classes to learn. Many of the problems I have experienced could be solved with better access to teaching staff and a little more forethought in course design. On the positive side my student liaison did her best to assist me.

The system at this uni is still from the stone age, it's way too expensive for the poor service you get. They always make things more complicated and many of teaching staff are below average in teaching and support beside that except from them not to answer your emails as they always do with many students. This uni is always dirty (library, restrooms and even the classrooms). I am happy that I only spent one semester there as I had to pay for filed trips (not included in the tuition and most of the field trips are during holidays which means extra work in your holidays) . I don't recommend JCU for international students. You should google JCU protest to get an idea how bad this university is. we pay about $100 for parking and we get un covered dusty parking which I don't even park there if it was free. AVOID THIS UNI.

Wish I could give this Uni less than one star, first of all this uni is all about money. They don't even care if you fail even if you need 2-3 marks to pass they will fail you which means you will be one year behind. what I mean that if you fail a subject in semester 1 you have to repeat the subject next year. good luck with that! am so glad I transferred to another uni. They are saying that they are one of the top rated Universities but they don't even have their own boat for a field trip and yeah you have to pay for field trips. I think this uni is one of the worst in the world. avoid this Uni no matter what and you have to thank me for that!

Current student. I think it's a great university with friendly helpful staff & teachers. They're always doing renovations and making the campus more modern and aesthetic. Woolies closed replaced by supa IGA which is very convenient for us. The library has lots of high performance computers and quiet study spots, and lots of good books. The curriculum keeps changing which has its pros and cons. But in general i am really enjoying being a student here :)
