About Internation Planned Parenhood Federation- Africa Region Office
The International Planned Parenthood Federation- Africa Region Office is a non-profit organization that has been delivering sexual and reproductive healthcare services around the world for over 60 years. The organization is dedicated to providing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning, maternal health, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, gender-based violence prevention and response, youth-friendly services, and advocacy for sexual rights.
The IPPF-Africa Region Office was established in 1971 with the aim of promoting access to quality sexual and reproductive healthcare services across Africa. The organization operates in over 40 countries in Africa through its network of member associations. These member associations are independent organizations that work closely with communities to provide essential healthcare services.
One of the key areas of focus for IPPF-Africa Region Office is family planning. The organization believes that access to family planning is a fundamental human right that enables individuals to make informed decisions about their lives. Through its member associations, IPPF-Africa provides a range of contraceptive methods such as pills, injectables, implants, intrauterine devices (IUDs), male condoms and female condoms.
Maternal health is another area where IPPF-Africa has made significant contributions. The organization recognizes that maternal mortality remains a major challenge in many African countries due to inadequate access to quality maternal healthcare services. To address this challenge, IPPF-Africa works with its member associations to provide antenatal care (ANC), postnatal care (PNC), skilled birth attendance (SBA) as well as emergency obstetric care (EmOC).
In addition to providing essential healthcare services at the community level through its member associations' clinics or mobile outreach teams; IPPF-Africa also engages in advocacy efforts aimed at influencing policies related to sexual and reproductive health rights at national levels across Africa.
IPPF-Africa's commitment towards promoting youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services cannot be overstated either. Young people face unique challenges when it comes accessing information on sexuality education or seeking out appropriate medical attention when they need it most; hence why this initiative was created by the organisation.
Finally but not least important; gender-based violence prevention & response remains one of the core areas where IPPF-Africa focuses on addressing issues related women's rights violations such as rape or domestic violence which are still prevalent across many African societies today despite being illegal under international law.
In conclusion; International Planned Parenthood Federation- Africa Region Office has been instrumental in improving access to quality sexual & reproductive healthcare across Africa since its inception over four decades ago now! With an unwavering commitment towards fighting for Sexual Rights globally while delivering essential medical assistance wherever needed most - this organisation continues making strides towards achieving universal coverage within these critical areas!
