This hotel is located near water front area, Te Papa museum and cable car which is very handy to look around and enjoy the city.

The breakfast buffet choices is much smaller than I thought, but food was tasty.

However, their guest service need to improve, I have a couple of funny experiences with this hotel. I want to say, a little thing can make a huge difference in terms of service, and their service is not up to standard.

We arrived earlier than check-in time (I got there around 10am and check in is 3pm). I didn't expect to get in our room of course, a lady said she would text me when our room is ready. We looked around the city and by the time 3pm, we still haven't received a message, so we just went back in the hotel because now it's after 3pm so we're entitled to get in our room. The same lady greeted us and asked my last name and look for our room card which was already ready... but she didn't text us as she promised...

We entered the room, it was 2 double bed room. When I booked the room on Expedia, it was a King bed or 2 Double bed and I requested a King bed room but I got the other one, maybe only this room was available who knows, however, she could have mentioned this when we checked in.

Then I was thirty and looking for a bottle of still water but nothing there. I hit "Instant service button" on the phone to ask if they would provided complimentary water bottles like other hotels and a lady said,
" Um... I don't think so." Not No, "I don't think so." If she's not sure, she should have asked her manager. She said "I don't think we do but you can buy a bottle of water and it is $10." This is ridiculous.

I never stayed in any hotel not providing complimentary water bottles especially 5 star hotels, this is normal so I was shocked and hanged up the phone.
I still couldn't believe it so I called Housekeeping and this lady said "Sure, I can send it up for you if you want." So I said please.
Same question, two different answers.
I got my water in 15mins.

Another thing was, we are two people staying and only got One tooth brush..... I called Housekeeping again and they brought another one with 2 water bottles.

After these funny experiences, I regretted that I booked this hotel, it was more expensive than any other hotel in Wellington and it's 5 star hotel, I was so looking forward staying here but I will not come back to International Wellington when I visit to Wellington next time.

From a guest view point, the overall experience was as good as expected from an internationally rated 5 star hotel. Concierge was extremely helpful finding me halal places to dine, although I knew about most of them already, it was still great to know the level of service and awareness.

We checked in yesterday to an awesome valet and bell staff. The concierge and other personnel could not be better.

However, the condition of our room on the 4th floor is tired. The carpet is coming up in the middle of the room and the room and bathroom looks like it is from the 90 s. When you pay for quality like the InterCon you expect a better product. Won t be back to this hotel, but will certainly be back to Wellington.

Outstanding luxury. Elegant with style. Best club lounge in the world, food, service and views. And of course Wellington is one of the best cities to visit in the world. This 5 star plus hotel puts you in the best location and will provide you with holiday or weekend getaway memories of a lifetime.

Mixed feelings...group dinner, very limited menu. Tiny loaf between 4 people. 3x beans, a bit of mash and a dryish tiny steak. Dessert was tasty though. No offer of tea or coffee. $80.00 per head. Hmm...

I could have been a great experience but it wasn't.
Great room, great meal, front desk staff were appallingly rude.
They definitely need training on what service means. This hotel charges a premium for their services

Wow, what an absolutely fantastic hotel. We chose the intercontinental Hotel as we had heard very good things and we was not let down. We stayed in a king room with a harbour veiw (well worth the extra money) which was immaculately clean and accommodating for our needs. The view was awesome too!! We did have to move rooms in the evening as the toilet broke in our room, a quick call down to the concierge and we was in another room within 10 minutes, no hassle or fuss. It was no drama and I understand these things do happen, so we had no problem with moving rooms, our next room had a even better veiw too!! We headed down for breakfast in the morning (I booked with the winter rate so breakfast was included) it was very tasty and a huge selection on offer (cereal, fruits, meats, cooked breakfast, waffles ect) there was plenty to choose from. The restaurant was very nice too, and the staff very attentive and friendly. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our night here, it was for our wedding night and we wanted to stay somewhere luxurious, which we definitely got. The plate of delicious cakes and congratulations message was a really nice touch too. The reception staff were also extremely friendly and helpful, and a special mention to Shannon the concierge who was a delight to deal with and couldn't of been more helpful.

Stayed at the InterContinental on Thursday night.

Firstly my TV didn't work, even with the concierge looking at it for me.

Secondly, when I checked in I used my credit card and was advised by front desk that they would put a hold on my card of $100 for incidentals, as I was paying by eftpos. I checked out Friday morning, paid my account in full. It's now Sunday night and much to my dismay the hotel has a hold on my credit card of $310!!

Not impressed.

Good experience in dining area, nice pulls of espresso, and the staff were very friendly. Not a great experience dealing with reception trying to book a room - miscommunication between members of their staff, and communication was poor, but management refunded our booking.

Decent hotel although we aren't getting as much as expected for the price other than location - not much value here for us. When we checked in, the driveway / door staff completely ignored us. In fact, I'm not sure if the men out front with IHG name tags actually worked for the hotel. We had a number of bags and no attempt was made to assist us. The only person who spoke to me during check-in was the front desk attendant after he was finished with other business. The concierge was not helpful or attentive. There were 3 people at the desk and no one addressed us. This is not what I expected. I had to ask to have my car valet parked. We are here for 3 days and will go about our business without asking the hotel staff for anything. I doubt they will notice us.

The club lounge level staff partially redeem the inattentiveness of their ground floor peers. The club lounge is well stocked and breakfast is worth the upcharge to the room. 4 stars to the woman at reception in this lounge.

Overall, I'm not impressed and other IHG properties outshine this one at a much lower price. Two stars are for location and a decent king club room. Zero stars for service and making a customer feel welcome.

The Hilton Taupo, where we stayed yesterday, did a much better job of making us feel like guests compared to this property.

Update: the concierge Kevin made an effort to provide better service on the second day of our stay. Kudos to him for his effort.

Pool needs updating and some love. Rest of the hotel has been updated and is lovely. Good selection at breakfast, super helpful staff and great experience. Stayed for work so not really sure about value for money as it was mainly business people staying here.

You are charged 40 dollars a night for parking. We asked three times for the adjoining room door to be unlocked it was not done. We found someone else's t shirt and socks in a drawer so cleaning not as it should be especially in these times of covid. Saving grace the staff are all friendly and helpful. But for the price of a room I was shocked to be charged so much for parking. We had booked three rooms and only the one room had breakfast included unsure why price was the same for the rooms.

Very very nice hotel. Very comfortable beds. Really enjoyed "pillow menu". You can choose what sort of pillow you would like to use. Very interesting feature. Then we went to the SPA. very relaxing atmosphere in there. And, of course, had dinner in Chameleon. The food is absolutely outstanding! Knowledgeable staff, helped us to make our mind. Overall, really enjoyed our stay there.

Great hotel with really friendly staff. The location is great, especially if you want to head to the docks across the road for dinner. The rooms are very well sound insulated so we thought we were the only guests on our floor. We used the valet service as it was much cheaper than parking in the wilson car park. There's a gandalf statue in the lobby as well which is kind of cool.

1) Check-in and reception were perfect

1) Check-in and reception were perfect
2) Hotel was clean and organized as it should
3) Room was not really worth the price.
- Carpet was very old and was rolling up when you walk on it. more like cheap motel quality.
- Fridge was broken (I think) as the thermostat was not functioning properly. Again, you don't want to see such thing in a high reputation hotel.
- Room SPA was not cleaned properly (germs and signs from previous use) so I cleaned them by myself before use.
4) Parking fee was almost unexpected but I paid as I have been told.

In general, I came to the point that paid price was not really matching the quality I received from Hotel.

Hotel is very nice now that the renovations have been finished downstairs. Bar and restaurant are nice, and food prices are good for a high end hotel. Rooms are very comfortable and tastefully decorated, but the fancy electronic lighting system seems to have a few teething problems - my curtains wouldn't open. Also, Wi-fi is patchy and not particularly fast.

It's not the cheapest hotel, so what I find most annoying is that they take a deposit/pre-auth on your card, charge for the room on top of that, and then only release the the deposit afterwards. This takes 5 business days, so it means there's a big chunk of money on your card that can't be used. This is infuriating if you're travelling and racking up expenses. Why can't hotels just use the deposit as part of the payment, or at least have a way to free this money up more quickly?
