I bought a printer and supplies using my US-based AMEX card, only to get an email later saying they prefer wire transfers (T/T) because credit cards don't protect the buyer as much. When I asked why this applied to me, they took several days to respond, claiming my card was issued in Mexico. That was completely false. I provided proof of my US billing address to show the card was domestic, but their answer remained the same: I had to use T/T. It felt like a way to offload risk onto the customer while hiding behind dubious claims. I’ve since purchased similar items with the same card elsewhere and received far better service.
