Decent urban dinner place. Definitely not a tavern. This was previously One Hundred bar and they renovated and renamed recently. A new menu is nice. I had the hamburger spring rolls. Very good.

A group of ladies and I have been going to McLeod Tavern for their Thursday Ladies special and we've enjoyed each visit. Ladies receive half off the price of the food menu, along with the usual happy hour specials. The renovated tavern is chique with an open atmosphere setting. The patio is also set up. The only negative comment to share is the happy hour music could be more appropriate for its clientele age group. However, the thirst-quenching drinks, delicious food, and friendly and attentive service, makes up for the loud (and annoying) techno music. Despite this item, I would definitely suggest this venue to others. Great management, pleasant and professional staff, consistent and excellent quality fare.

One star rating is generous.

One star rating is generous.
If you're looking for overdone, overpriced and rubbery Oysters Mornay, this is your place. Looking for ambivalent waitstaff? This is your place. Unruly patrons causing a huge, drunken disturbance and throwing drinking glasses down the bar? This is your place.
Underwhelming, to say the least, morbidly disappointing at best.
Will not return and warning others off this "tavern".....

I meandered into McLeod Tavern after a Friday spent at work. I sat at the bar and ordered a gin and tonic, as well as a cheeseboard.

The bartender who was serving me was unpleasant and kind of sneered at me when I chose to thank her for the drink. Upon arrival of the cheeseboard, I was very happy with the result. The bread was top notch, and the blueberry confit was a great compliment.

When the bill arrived, I realized I was charged for both a meat and a cheeseboard, which served to double the price of the item. (I must admit, I ate everything, and in hindsight should have mentioned it earlier). However, when I brought this up with the bartender she immediately became quite angry with me, which was uncalled for. This is where the review turns favourable. The manager on duty was kind enough to write off the entire cheeseboard, which saved me $15 (this was a very kind gesture). I think out of the act of goodwill I would return and try some of the other dishes.

3/5.

Not super impressed with this place.. Was there as part of a large group (10 people) and maybe that's why I had a negative experience. Service was slow, with 3 different servers taking orders and getting them confused. Servers arguing with each other about orders, and accusing us of ordering food we never ordered. Food didn't look appetizing, and seemed overpriced. Paid over $7 for a single cocktail, and not a single cider on the menu. There's better options.

I was staying at the Hotel MacDonald and happened upon this wonderful establishment. The service was bar none the best I had in a while. They make probably one of the best 'Old Fashions' in Alberta here. Stand up service and a great modern atmosphere.

Back in the day a tavern was a poorly-lit establishment of ill repute for serious drinkers. Somehow in Edmonton the food fashionistas have co-opted the term and have tried to turn it into something avant-garde. The McLeod Tavern exemplifies the usual unfortunate result as the pendulum swings too far in the other direction. A confusing menu yields nothing but mediocre food and over-priced drinks meaning that both foodies and serious drinkers will be happier elsewhere.

I don't even know why I'm giving them one star. The place is dirty. The servers are trashy. The food is terrible. Service is dead slow. I'm quite positive we got old bar lemons in our sangrias. The sour cream with our nachos was a different colour on the top, as if they sat in a cooler for too long. Obviously under staffed. Gross old glasses all over the bar. We came on a Friday at 6:30 and sure, it might be busy, but this is downtown, not a slummy part of the city. I won't be back. My suggestion is to find something else downtown if that's what you're looking for, many new places that would blow this place out of the water.
